  1. if you read the known lore, you will see that magic in PE is based on soul power. paladins expand their own soul to create auras, clerics use their faith to draw power from their soul to cast spells, ciphers directly affect the souls of others, wizards use crystalized souls embeded into books, druids use the power leaking from the souls of all living beings that is floating around etc.
  2. i like to be able to leave quests for later sometimes, however if the system is made so that not doing a quest when offered, causes a change to the events to come it's fine.
  3. they are not inherently bad... it's just that certain types have always been implemented badly. so it's better to avoid them
  4. what it all comes down to, is giving the player more than 1 choice and a reason to pick B instead of A, besides the simplistic "im evil, i dont help"
  5. at least witcher 2 only used it to give some style to the journal, unlike some other games that went for the 1st aproach the naration between chapters in IWD2 was nice. it spoke from another person's point of view about the general setting of the chapter and not of the character's and their actions
  6. the music needs to be composed, written clearly, tested and practiced before getting recorded. using a live orchestra for tests would cost an arm and a leg. first you make a piece, then you test it with various instruments to see what works until you have something decent, then you refine it, write it down on sheets and when all else is done you take it to the orchestra for practice and later recording
  7. the idea itself is not bad, however i dont think that any weapon should be able to become more powerful. the fame of a weapon should come with the fame of the owner. if you are Osvir the master swordsman and dragon slayer, then your sword should be a famous dragon killing weapon, since it needs to be able to cut a dragon's hide. however if you are Osvir the sniper, your bow will not be famous if you kill a dragon, because what you hit the dragon with are arrows and it's your skill at shooting them (not the bow's) that let's you win. if the wizard kills the dragon, will his grimoir become famous? a spell he may have invented for the fight may be, but not his items so it is not as easy to implement in a fair way for all classes as you think however, having a magical weapon that can absorb the souls of certain enemies of magical nature (just by being there when they die, it does not have to deliver the kiling blow), adding some of their traits to it's stats would be cool. however the weapon should be something you make with a normal weapon of your choice and some ancient artifact or something (to avoid forcing a specific type of weapon on the player)
  8. the areas will be BG2 style. you have to explore each on foot, however to go to another area, why have to walk all the way to the edge of the current area, and not just press M and choose a travel destination? you may also be able to use the map to set a destination within your current area, but in that case the characters will walk there normally in BG2 you did not explore the road between De Arnise hold and Trademeet. you just clicked on Trademeet and traveled there. all i suggest is simply removing the tedious "walk to the edge of the De Arnise hold map before you can travel"
  9. the system is made specifically for a CRPG. it is not an adaptation of a PnP system
  10. as Leo said in a movie where he played the filthy rich CEO "i dont want you to bribe the senator. i want this done legaly... i want you to buy him!" and yes ladies and gentlemen, this is how modern democracy works everywhere.
  11. you should not need to walk to the end of the map to leave it. unless you are in combat, you could just open your map and go to another location.
  12. 100% of enemies in the game start with this advantage. They will always have full Health/Stamina and all abilities and spells at their disposal. Only the player party has to deal with being "ground down" over the course of adventuring. For realism. well, your party has to kill the 3 orcs guarding the gate, then kill the 2 pet hellhounds, then kill another 5 orc guards, then the troll cook, then 2 golems and you finally get to meet the lich who is the boss of the dungeon. if nobody has gone past the 3 guards outside, what reason would those inside have to be out of hp, stamina, skills and spells? they fought nobody, while by the time you get to the boss, you have had to kill 13 enemies of varying difficulty
  13. i think that is the realistic size of the area, that will be scaled down for the game
  14. if you want an RTS example take Empire Earth. in custom maps, since they did not have an AI capable of managing the opponents, they simply gave them cheat codes. every 5 minutes the AI was using the cheat code for +10000 of all resources. it had no need for workers and could spend all population slots for army units, meaning that your base was under constant attack, while you had to have 60% of your population in workers to keep up with the resources
  15. in the gothic series, you could carry on you every piece of junk you colected... it was not realistic, but it was convenient. same thing for the kotor games. did it make these games any less fun to play? here, to keep things more tactical, they allow you to keep a limited amount of useable items and the rest are magically sent to camp for convenience. the best of both worlds
  16. just think of the mule in Dungeon Siege... without the actual mule.
  17. even in the IE games, the only autopause i used was for enemy spoted (so i would not run into someone when i was not looking), trap spoted (same reason) and spell cast (so i can set the next action without having to keep track of the spell casters manually) these are the same i will be using here probably
  18. i was thinking. how about adding an item... a ring or amulet, that at first just gives a bit of something, a trivial bonus to some stat, but it's properties change as you play based on your actions. for example, if you are a psycho killer, it gives you more damage, if you are a diplomat it makes you smarter and so on, and the more dedicated you are to that behaviour, the bigger the bonus becomes (however the bonus is independent of your level or stats, only your actions affect it's properties)
  19. once upon a time, game makers payed people to play test their games (8h full time job) in the beta stage to find and record all bugs and glitches so they can be fixed by release. today people pay to be beta testers... or even alpha testers well played gaming industry... well played indeed!
  20. Yes, the game is isometric - Which is pretty much one of the biggest hooks that snagged all us filthy backer types. Graphics and lighting, from what we've seen, are shaping up to be superb. I know DA2 is bad enough lol I don't mind much about graphic actually as long as it is not like Arcanum in which too pain to see. Anyway, the game is still in developement isn't it, then i wish you guys good luck. I will seek out this game if God will the camera will be like that of arcanum but the graphics will be much more clean... just look at some screenshots.
  21. there is a breed of chicken that is always white and grow fat fast. these are the chicken that you buy at the supermarket to cook, also knowk as "meat birds". if they are used for laying eggs, then the eggs are white. the "normal" chicken are various shades of brown and lay brown eggs
  22. and why need specific class based abilities? they could easily be replaced by some story/quest elements unique to the class. for example if you are a paladin, you could choose to belong to one of a number of orders at character creation, and that choice will be reflected on your social interactions. if you choose the "White Knights" that safeguard order and justice, the comon folk will see you as a hero and treat you accordingly. if you are part of the "Order of the dead" that seeks to bring peace by eradicating all life, people will be scared of you and so on
