the only way to fight religious extremism is with religion. there are strict rules about going to heaven in islam so if we want to stop these attacks by people who do them because they were promised a spot to heaven for them, is to deny them that spot and the rest will think twice before trying to do the same

this is why i call it a tech demo. the features in this card go unused by today's games but they offer solutions to eternal limitations of game design (HBM most of all) so if they convince developers to take advantage of these features, you could see a big leap in the future.

Vega pretty much catches up to the 1070 and 1080, but considering the price it is not exactly competitive. but i think Vega is more of a tech demo for the developers than a card meant to wrestle a chunk of the market out of nvidia's hands.

good thing this is a game developer's forum. lets hope they take notice modernized classical art

free healthcare is never really free. you just pay in a different way for it. and most (if not all) of the time it doesn't matter if you pay the doctor or he gets payed by your taxes, the quality of your medical care is based solely on the work ethic of said doctor.

gratz, didn't see it earlier. however remember the wise words of Al Bundy: "the first step towards a divorce is marriage but you can't help that. just make sure to never take the second step because there is no floor after that".

are they the people who bring love, peace and tolerance by going on witch hunts with torches and pitchforks?

Meh, in terms of fighting the most wars, the U.S. is still playing catch up to Great Britain. simultaneous wars?

it feels like USA is on the verge of a civil war. while it threatens to engage in a nuclear war. while it threatens to engage in a conventional war while it is currently fighting like 3 or 4 wars all over the world could the time when we all play fallout for real be coming? one can only hope

got me a new network adapter and a new cable just to be safe. let's hope i don't get any more trouble with my connection... so far seems stable yesterday i went for a little trip to an artificial lake that has become a tourist attraction the last few years. it wasn't anything special compared to other lakes i've been to but it did have a nice scenery... although it reminded me more of a golf course than a spot of natural beauty.

Movies You've Seen (or would like to see) Recently

I really do not understand their choice here at all - Valérian is a little old and more of a classic sci-fi cowboy, who relies on his quick-draw and smooth talker skills to get him out of trouble. With Laureline being the actual competent one of the two. While I have respect for DeHaan in some of his other roles, he's way too young and the role was written much more like a renegade Commander Shephard. Didn't fit the source material at all. as i said elsewhere, the trailer for this turned me away. i knew nothing of the original comic when i saw the trailer. i heard of it in passing in reviews of the movie but this opinion is what i formed just from the trailer, before i even knew there was source material. the trailer shows 2 unknown characters that look to be in their late teens be the top special agents of a federation of 1000 civilizations. a federation that big yet unable to defend itself from a threat that can end it in just 12 hours and somehow, these 2 teenagers are supposed to be capable of finding and eliminating that threat. the premise itself is outlandish, considering we do not deal with established and known characters (and world) from whom we know what to expect. so a 2 hour film they need to cram in all we need to know about the characters and all we need to know about the world they live in just to make a plot that is based on an outlandish premise feel coherent. and so the question comes naturally to mind "with all that, where will they find the time to fit a compelling story in all this", followed instantly by the scene of the 2 flirting on the beach which just sends the answer "they can't, this will be a bad film with no substance". and the reviews i've seen seem to confirm it -
today the day started wrong and keeps getting worse. when i woke up i was feeling itchy but i didn't pay much attention to it i went to turn on my PC and there was no internet after passing some time troubleshooting, i came to the conclusion that the network adapter of the mobo is dead then i noticed why i was feeling itchy: my bed was full of ants (no idea how they got there) i set off to go buy a PCI network adapter and a can of insecticide. on the way, the AC of the car stopped working the store was closed so i couldn't buy a NA but at least i found some spray for the ants now i have to take the bed out, spray it, let the smell go away and then inspect it thoroughly to make sure there are no more ants. then wait til monday to see how to fix the internet. good thing i have an old laptop and the wi-fi works or i'd be back in the 90s (not really a bad thing but boring)

It's directly proportional to clock-speeds if architecture and code is the same. The problem is code optimization, architecture optimization, die-fab optimization, and clock-speeds are all hitting their upper limit. we're saying pretty much the same thing: if other factors do not hamper it, clock speed is what makes or breaks single thread performance
-
there is only so much performance that can be squeezed out of a single thread and it usually is directly proportional to the clock speeds if the architecture is not designed badly (like in the FX series).

half of the CPUs in the ryzen lineup serve no real purpose. they are there to make it look like it has lots of options and make a quick buck off of the less tech savvy people. there is no reason to pay more for a 1600x when you can take a 1600 and have pretty much the same performance there is no reason to get a 1500X when the 1400 is the exact same CPU. same with 1700 vs 1700X and 1800X the X is there to make ignorant people think they pay more to get something better when they are just paying more for the same thing. AMD is a corporation after all and it's main focus is to make money... and just like every other corporation, they will use every trick in the book to make you let them stick their hand ever deeper in your pocket.

both my father and me are opposed to the concept of volunteer work for any organization (be it a business or a charity or whatever else). each volunteer who naively wants to help with the cause, is doing for free what could be a payed job. if you have 10 volunteers feeding 500 homeless, why not make it 10 working and payed ex homeless feeding the other 490? maybe eventually some of the 10 will move on to some other job and you can hire some of the other 490 homeless to get them out of the slums. the volunteer system perpetuates the problem by not allowing the number of homeless people to decrease and this is how the top brass of the charities want it, because if they gave an actual solution the charity would lose it's reason to exist and they would lose millions in tax free donations... or their money laundering machine, because let's be honest here, most rich people dump illegal profits into their own privately owned tax free venues like charities and use them as their personal tax free bank account.

an 80 year old white man married a 25 year old white girl after a year she gave birth to a boy and the nurse asked the man "how did you do it at this age?" to which he replied "i keep the tools well oiled" a year later she gave birth to a girl and the nurse asked again "do you really have it in you to make kids at this age?" and he replied "as i said, i keep the tools well oiled" the next year she gave birth again and the nurse came to him and said "you forgot to change oil this time and the child came out black"

i was thinking how this world is so unfair to anyone who is over 20-22 or so. if you are not born in a dirt poor family you live fine until then but from that point on... lets just say all straws are short - except if you are a work junkie. every moment you spend working is a moment that has been wasted away from the things you love, but every moment out of work is a moment wasted in not providing the money you need to sustain the things you love. and in the end you always feel like you are missing out on everything
