as far as i know, YMD is the standard used for archiving in most places. the MDY and DMY formats were created due to the common verbal pronunciation of a date in each language. saying "May first twenty eighteen" rolls off the tongue easier than "first of May twenty eighteen", so the written form of it became 5/1/2018 to match. in languages like italian where the verbal pronunciation of a date is "primo Maggio due mila diciotto", the written format was set to 1/5/2018 to match.

People are wanking over the cop's restraint when the cop just knew there was no gun. Toronto cops are just as likely to blast someone they don't need to as US ones, but Canadians need to brag about something. Guy's truly an idiot too, if he just had a kitchen knife he would have gotten his wish. a US cop would be more likely to just shoot and be done with it, then claim he saw a gun on the suspect

I installed a Cooler Master Hyper 212X on my PC and got rid of the stock AMD cooler of my FX8350. I chose that cooler because it is compatible with both AM3 and AM4 so if i get a Ryzen later i can keep the cooler. it took me over an hour to make the swap because to install it i had to pull the entire mobo out of the box and change the stock back plate with the one from CM, then put everything back in (including the annoying small wires for the power switch and the case LEDs... how i hate them). The good thing is that the system stopped sounding like a jet about to take off and the temperature is on average 25C lower

i heard that they found a new organ in the human body. it looks like a fiber network under the skin and they don't know exactly what it does yet, but they believe that it is what cancer cells use to spread to other parts of the body.

I'm sure the Chinese would be protesting more if they got shot as often. And the Irish became the police, so that was a nifty turnabout by them. maybe they don't get shot much because they don't pull a gun at the police. anyway, racism has been a thing of the past and there are still racists today, but the systemic racism that everyone screeches about has not been around for decades. Dr King fought for the elevation of the black community to the level of the rest of the people of USA, a place at the time almost precluded for them. the idea of equality was to give everyone a ladder that lets them climb to the top of the wall and whoever wants to climb he can go ahead and try to go as high as he can. today's misconception about equality is that if everyone can't get to the top of the wall, nobody should attempt to climb and when somebody attempts and succeeds, its because racism/sexism made sure the ladders of the others were faulty. there will always be racist people but racist societies are a thing of the past in most of the world. those who keep clinging to the idea that our societies are racist and ask for special laws, are people who should open a dictionary and read the definition of racism.

i dont deny the connection, i'm merely stating that the reason for black slavery in america was 99% economical. black africans were cheap, plentiful and had no free counterparts who moved there on their own to mingle with and drop off the radar. and all the theories about racial inferiority made it hard for them to be accepted as free people even after their liberation. however they were not the only ones who were discriminated against. chinese were not treated with much respect in those times either but you don't see them going on rampages on the streets screaming "RACISM" when one of them pulls a gun on a cop and gets shot. irish were unofficial slaves when they moved en masse to USA and were not treated any better and natives had it the worst as they were systematically exterminated by settlers. everyone who had a bad time due to racial issues in the past has put that past behind and looks ahead recognizing that the world has moved away from that mentality that caused sorrow to their ancestors. the only people who cling to that past are those who want to use it as an excuse to make demands. we have such people here too. 60 years ago they came as refugees and 3 generations later they still use that old story to demand unfair benefits

these were simply excuses based on simple observations made by people who were too advanced compared to the locals and could not believe that the locals would be so far back unless they were incapable of human progress. its projection as i said earlier. europeans in central and south africa were advanced enough to see the possibilities of the land that the locals had no way to exploit and considered that if the locals can't do it, it means the locals were inferior beings without the intelligence needed to do what to them was obvious. besides the majority of black slaves were prisoners of tribal wars sold to slavers by the winning tribe and this slave trade goes back all the way to the pharaonic Egypt of 2000BC or even earlier. as for the idea of racial superiority, its something as old as humanity. every group of people always thinks itself better than any other group and does whatever is needed to prove it... and if it has something that validates that claim it goes to extremes. in the end it was, as always, all about money. even the church not recognizing them as humans with a soul was part of the need to find a moral justification for their deeds in the eyes of that 90% of the people who never owned a slave nor did they care to own one, and who didn't really care about skin color until they got brainwashed to see black people as inferior so they can turn a blind eye with a clean conscience.

the treatment even varied from master to master, its not like all black slaves in USA were treated like cattle by their masters nor that all slaves were treated kindly in ancient Athens where slaves were mostly other greeks and the laws were pretty humane about what the master was allowed to do. the thing is that blacks were not targeted for slavery because of their skin color but because they were an easy target. if there were and easier target, slavers would go for it and leave sub saharan africans alone.

discrimination based on first glance characteristics like skin color is part of a naturally evolved survival instinct. like all animals, humans are wary of what they do not know so they seek uniformity in their communities and they tend to avoid what has obvious differences. another problem is projection. we tend to see the past through the lens of the present, so behaviors that had nothing to do with racism, sexism or any other -ism but were accepted as the social norm by all relevant parties, are seen as such judged by today's standards. also, slaves have always been treated like slaves regardless of the race or ethnicity of the slave or the owner. in the 1800s USA blacks were not slaves because of racism, its just that they were abundant and cheap so there was high demand and plentiful offer, making the trade of any slave of other origin pointless from an economic perspective (there were slaves of all other races all around the world even long after the abolishment of slavery in USA). the problem of racism started after the liberation of the slaves when former slave owners and guards could not accept that their former slaves now had equal rights as them as free citizens and since USA was a land with over 80% of inhabitants being white who knew all blacks were slaves, free black people stuck out like the proverbial nail that needs hammering.
