Sympathetic villains > cartoonishly evil ones. Play some Obs games, Bishop, Ammon Jerro, One of Many, Steven Heck and Henry Leland. These are good villainous characters. None of those poll archetype go anywhere near them. I also would like see one evil class like Witch Hunter or Inquisitor.

Except that "AAA budgets" are used to pay everything, from the janitor at the offices to the CEO of Activision. "AAA quality" has nothing to do with budget. Torchlight 2 is a game with AAA quality on an insignificant fraction of the budget. Blacklight: Retribution offers all the quality of the Call of Duty multiplayer in a free-to-play game. By cutting out 95% of the redundant people involved in the process, you cut the budget by leaps and bounds. That's the entire idea of the whole Kickstarter craze. Unless you're going to tell me you don't think that Planetary Annihilation is going to have the same overall quality as Starcraft II, which would be frankly insulting to the experienced and dedicated team working on it. You might as well be telling me that I should pay as much for an apple from a supermarket as I should at the farm it originated from. One involves packaging, shipping, and stocking, increasing the cost of an identical product. Going straight to the source (in this case, the developers), allows them to do much more with the same amount of money. The budget of "true AAA" titles is a complete joke, and it's ridiculous that so many of you are acting like it takes $100 million to achieve that level of quality. The fact that it doesn't is the whole reason Kickstarter is taking off in the first place. I know I had a kneejerk overreaction. I'm not dropping my pledge or anything, but Unity is still the Unreal Engine 3 of smaller development teams. It gets used indiscriminately despite any shortcomings it may have, simply because it's easy to access and use. But but... Torchlight 2 can't be AAA title it uses OGRE engine and it is not any of those engines what you see in AAA games. Unity is however more modern and it comes with better tools than OGRE, which is used to made game which in your opinion is in AAA quality. But still you rise to question can Obsidian make AAA quality game using better engine.

Only problem what I see in creating your own party is how you can fit on story if it is desinged from that viewpoint that there is only one pc character. Of course there is ways like adventure guild or if your own house is Inn then there could always (or in timely bases) NPC which you can recruit (that is to say create and take with you). But these approaches can leave tent in main story arc if there were writen something for orginal companions. Although if you can freely choose companions as Obsidian is already hinted then I would see any real story wise harm from it other than when player gets this ability to recruit new PC and how many them s/he can recruit during game. Because I don't think that player should have full retinue from start of the game and player should not have ability to use these his or her own creations as cannon fodder.

I don't think game where player only get punished if he/she does side quest would be very fun to play. So if there is some urgency sytem like your home town needs new pump on their well or they all will die in water shortage, then there should be positive rewards in side quest which gives player a reason why he/she would do them instead rushing main quest through. I much prefer games where in start there is no real driving force except you curiosity and couple small hints about something larger. And the more you explore world more you find hints and information which finally give you some urgency to do something. But I not give absolute knockout for sytems where world lives on even if your characters spent their time in woodcutting.

If they plan to do dual wielding in the game then I would like see that you can carry weapon only in your left hand. As left handed myself, I think it could be cool feature, but not necessary one. Since most of the time I use things like right handed because of their poor design for left handed use.

Just shows you what people are like, getting "angry" over an engine choice? Words fail me... and most of that anger stemming from fact that just one of the many capabilities of unity is making cartoony games for mobile devices... But I don't undestand why Unity gets so much bad rep from it, while unreal engine don't get any though it is also used to make cartoonyt games for mobile devices.

I think term romance gives wrong impression what people want and I can't blame anyone from this. As romance is so over used in books, movies and games to mean something what is not and therefore many people have strong negative feelings toward that term. When I say I would like to see romance in game or that I enjoy romance in book or movie. I use term to mean what it says in dictionary.

AAA = A colloquial adjective referring to the large budget in which video games are made, and is generally associated with a high level of quality. Game development studios that create AAA games are also known as AAA studios. So if you want AAA game you should give it about 20-100 million more money and I don't have any objections if you do .

actually that ain't no isometric game. it's just a generic 3d perspective with a flying camera like nwn2. not sure what they gonna do with unity but they should have added a nice picture showing what they're aiming for. now this whole engine debate will cripple the enthusiasm. Isometric is a perspective and you can do it with "3d" graphics as you can do it with "2d" graphics.
