Paradox Interactive picks up Pillars of Eternity. http://www.shacknews.com/article/83601/paradox-interactive-picks-up-pillars-of-eternity

Don't know if this has been posted anywhere already, I may be late to the party as usual. I just came across a WB game called Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. The gameplay seems like Batman in Mordor, but with some interesting tactical and strategic elements added. If they can actually achieve the things they claim, it may be an entertaining game. http://youtu.be/7fB64APq_jk

Do you have an empty pasture to split the herd into? I thought it split the pasture, but it splits the herd into another pasture if you have one empty.

A dislike of Steam doesn't mean a dislike of digital distribution. Due to where I live I am unable to use a landline for my internet. I'm forced to use wireless internet. Here I pay AUS $50 per 6 gigabytes of internet usage (upload and download combined). Currently 25% of my Steam purchases are unplayable because Steam insists that they be updated before I can play them. Turning off auto update doesn't mean they don't have to be updated, it simply means you decide when the update begins. Steam still requires the update to be completed before the game can be played. Due to the size of some of the updates, it would cost me two or three times the original purchase price to download these updates. That is why I dislike Steam. Not because it's digital distribution, but because of Steam's policies. Other digital distribution platforms aren't as draconian in their update policies as Steam which means I can continue to use the product I payed for for as long as I like, when I like. I heard smoke signals are a good way to communicate in more rural areas, have you considered using that method as a data transport mechanism? Have you heard about all the fires here in Aus at the moment? How many do you think were caused by smoke signal network overload?

It does boggle the mind. I wonder if someone can explain how this game could raise so much money...is it old school fans prepared to pay anything for that nostalgic journey or is it the sales pitch? Does this mean Sci-fi is the way to go for KS projects ...what's Star Citizen secret that allowed such prodigious funding It's really very simple. Their fundraising has been going on for over a year now which allows them to keep increasing the number of backers. The average amount per backer is just over $100 but I would guess a lot of backers have only backed for half that (me for one), the rest made up from the monthly subscription for their backer "inside" look at the design and development of the game. There will also be a number of avid fans that have purchased multiple ship packages which can quite quickly add up to hundreds of dollars. The fact that they are very active on the forums helps also. Mostly it's as I said, time. With a very good developer presence on the site.

I haven't played it in a while but I found it a fun game for a couple of play throughs. The reason I stopped was the amount of guesswork involved. Training up your developers shouldn't be based on a guess, which was the case when you have to send someone on a training course to actually find out what stats some of the courses improved. This, coupled with the tight schedule for everything, was frustrating. I've noticed a few updates over the last month or so, so the issues I had with it may have been fixed. As I said, I enjoyed it for a couple of plays but I didn't really find any long term value in it, which was fine. For the price I definitely got my money's worth despite what were. in my opinion, minor flaws. On a similar note, not having played any of the Elder Scrolls games, is Skyrim a good starting point for a newcomer to the series?

Space Fans: X Rebirth has a Release Date!
mute688 replied to Luridis's topic in Computer and Console
Meh. Frak Metacritic. We live in the age of whiny, self-entilted internet hate generation, where people think rating things a 0 or 1 as "punishment" for being dissapointed is OK. DNF, DA2 and similar are examples of average games being dragged trough the mud needlesly. I don't trust the scores from random gamers anymore, since most of them are full-blown retards (IMHO), completley guided by emotions and knee-jerk reaction rather then thought. The 28/100 is the critic score, not the user review. The critic score is currently up to 33/100 while the user score is 3.3. -
I'll need to gift it to you on Steam. I bought it for my brother about 10 minutes after he bought it himself. If you still want it you can message me your steam id details.

I've got an extra copy of Project Zomboid on steam to give away if anyone wants it. It's an Early Access game but I'm still enjoying it.

hehe. I didn't check the last page. As usual, I'm late to the party.

Same here. Any takers?

Bought "How To Survive" on steam this morning. Played only an hour or so but enjoying it so far. It's a zombie survival action/rpg game, but with isometric view instead of first or third person view. The item crafting is quite good. You need to discover recipes for items, from armour to weapons (bows, crossbows, home made shotguns, etc.) to first aid, or you can use trial and error to discover recipes on your own. Kovac is an interesting character also. http://store.steampowered.com/video/250400

Just started playing an little indie game I've had for a while called Zafehouse Diaries. It's basically a decision making game as the only screens are a diary of events that updates each in game hour and a map of the town you are in where you control your group. Oh, and it's another zombie game . You have a group of up to five survivors of a zombie apocalypse who are trapped in a small town and you have to choose what activity each person will do for the next hour. Things like barricade the doors and windows, make traps, patrol, etc. There are three modes. Survive as long as possible, find and repair a vehicle to escape the town and the last is to find out where and when the evac helicopter will arrive in seven days. I've only tried the "repair the vehicle" mode so far and lasted only three days. On the second day a small girl turned up asking to be let in. I had three options: 1) Kill her. 2) Let her in. 3) Turn her away. I chose to let her in but she was infected and attacked us. We killed her and found she was carrying a vital part we needed. The next day her family turned up looking for her. They also wanted the item she was carrying. I chose to lie to them and say we hadn't seen her but the lie was "unconvincing" so they slaughtered us all.

Another update from CA on the future plans for Rome 2. http://forums.totalwar.com/showthread.php/94255-Battle-and-Unit-teams-What-we-are-working-on

I'm sure his points are valid, but are you seriously telling me that who couldn't present his case in 10-15 minutes? I could go over all the flaws of all the games in the series in less than 5 minutes.. We're not talking about the finer points of a Monet painting here, it's a strategy game and a fairly average, albeit entertaining, one at that. Angry Joe isn't just a reviewer. Although I don't particularly enjoy his style, he is offering entertainment, not just reviews. If you want short, succinct reviews there are a multitude out there. Joe offers something different that a lot of people obviously enjoy while still making some good points. In regard to his TW:R2 review, he apparently had to edit it down from around 2 hours of yelling at the camera. It also contains a few gameplay vids as examples of the problems with the game that take up a bit of time.

RPS was also luke warm on the game. Glad I stopped buying TW games due to the 5-6 gig patches they invariably require. I haven't even been able to play Shogun 2. The game has been patched to such an extent that when you buy the physical disk version, it simply downloads the entire game from steam anyway. And no, that isn't an error. The original game is no longer compatible with the steam version so steam requires the entire game be downloaded. That would cost me more in download fees than the actual game cost. CA lost the plot years ago.

I ordered a copy from Dungeon Crawl. They're shipping an import version this week, though it admittedly is a little expensive at $65. Cheers, will give the site a look. They changed the shipping date today to ship next week instead of today. I'm tempted to cancel my order. Hopefully it will ship Monday next week, not Friday next week.

Despite having bought and played every TW game, I doubt I'll be getting Rome 2. The last TW game I have been able to play was Medieval 2. I bought Empire and Napolean and have been unable to play them due to being steamworks games. Soon after purchase they release 5+ gig patches that steam insists I download before I can play the games. Being in a remote area I only have access to wireless internet with extremely limited download limits. To download the patches would cost more than the games themselves so they are simply deleted and forgotten. Then we come to Shogun 2 which wont even allow me to install from disk any more. The base game files have been patched to such an extent that steam now requires that the entire 12 gig be downloaded. I have finally learned my lesson. No more TW games for me.

It wont make much noticeable difference with no save, but I assume that if you carry the 400 days save over to season 2 when it is released it will use the default choices for season 1. (The only difference the save seemed to make in my 2 play throughs were a few references to the previous characters and a corpse on the side of the road.)

Okaaay, I think I sent a friend invite. I'll try and send them to you now. Edit: Nope. When I right click on your name in the friend list, I just get the menu with 'Back', 'Forward', 'Reload', etc. Edit again. Seems I have to have had Steam Guard enabled for 15 days before I can trade. You'll have to wait a couple of weeks before I can send them to you.

I've only got three cards, which I didn't even know about until reading about them here. All three are for Crusader Kings 2 if anyone wants them. Of course they will have to explain how I would go about giving them away.

One thing I've learned...I lack the patience for Alpha testing. I'll probably shelve the game til retail version, or close to it. It's a great concept and I've had more than enough fun with the game so far to justify the amount I gave in Kickstarter and it hasn't even passed alpha build yet, I just don't have the patience needed to be an alpha tester.
