Name a single writer whose work you hope most influences the story/tone of P:E
Metabot replied to Death Machine Miyagi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Okay, still explain. I am pretty familiar with Kurt Vonnegut and I can't honestly fathom how his tone, style, or otherwise could possibly have anything to do with PE. Unless he is referring to the "so it goes" stuff, but even that I find a hard fit. It's fairly simple, you deal with themes, topics, or characters that he dealt with. So...you deal with the bombing of dresden and time-travelling aliens? The guy wrote more stuff than just Slaughterhouse-5, I know (just an example), but KV seems a weird choice is all. It's one thing to like someone's work and another to think they would be a good inspiration for a fantasy crpg, I'm just wondering how he thinks the two would fit together is all, and you haven't really made that any clearer. You're thinking too particularly, instead of more broadly. Also, I'm not sure you know what a theme is.

Morrowind...aka WTF happened Bethesda
I guess I should have added 'most ridiculous today' because we do seem to be getting a lot of people lately who are angry about games they've sunk huge amount of time into. I was simply pointing out that I have played Skyrim quite a bit..

Morrowind...aka WTF happened Bethesda
How can there be an open "discussion" with your prerequisite assumptions getting in the way? Lol there can be a discussion about the topic. If you don't want to discuss this particular topic and just want to express which game you thought was better start a new thread.

Great info. Thanks for replying to the topic.

Morrowind...aka WTF happened Bethesda
Well the topic of discussion wasn't which game is better. It assumed that morrowind was better and asked why the otger games arent quite as good. If you dont agree with that thats fine, but go run your mouth about it in some other thread instead of derailing this one.

Morrowind...aka WTF happened Bethesda
In terms of combat, morrowind is more of aN RPG than the other two. In terms of writing and lore, morrowind is generally considered to have the highest quality among the most recent three. This is a strange forum with so many defending oblivion and skyrim over morrowind.

Morrowind...aka WTF happened Bethesda
I'm tempted to say they learned how to make good, interesting games. But I'd really like to somehow get into Morrowind, there just *has* to be good stuff in there somewhere. Played for many hours years ago, didn't see anything worth doing or getting into for. Went for NWN instead. Much more enjoyable. The second time maybe a year ago was a brief one, the flap flap flapflapflapflap attack animations were so stupid I just couldn't stand it. Can you make a successful mage (like in skyrim) or sneak bow thief (like in Oblivion)? Might be doable if I could just completely avoid close combat alltogether? Loved Oblivion, Skyrim, FO3 and NV. After Skyrim I can see how there was neat stuff in Oblivion that's no longer in Skyrim and have to assume the same goes with Morrowind and Oblivion. So I kind of see why Morrowind would seem to have most stuff in it and would like to experience it all. Lol yea you can make a successful mage in morrowind. The only thing that skyrim and oblivion have that's worth a damn that morrowind didn't are poisons.

You had a blast forging ledgers all over the countryside? Anyways, thread derailed lol.

Morrowind...aka WTF happened Bethesda
I've played skyrim for hundreds of hours. Morrowind blows it out of the water.

Skyrim is worse than oblivion and fallout 3 sucked so your opinion is null and void.

Potions Suck and Here's Why
O_o That's why you get more powerful potions. What a strange criticism.

Morrowind...aka WTF happened Bethesda
Was it money? Did they lose their vision? Was it a fluke?

Morrowind...aka WTF happened Bethesda
I've been playing Morrowind more and more lately and I've come to the realization that this is one of the best RPGs ever created. The faction dynamics have real potential. It has magic creation, alchemy, etc. etc. It has choices and consequences. So what the hell happened over at Bethesda?

How "retro" should the mechanics of PE be?
Little bit different. These days they can make a 3d model that actually looks real. mhmm and have you seen the screenshot for PE?

How "retro" should the mechanics of PE be?
Have you played ToEE at all? 3d characters on top of 2d background looks fine. Playstation era Final Fantasies were the same I believe.

How "retro" should the mechanics of PE be?
Again, you've played many RTS games. Is the overhead view of those games dated? No, it serves the type of game it is. You claim some have rotatable cameras, but not all of them, even newer ones.

How "retro" should the mechanics of PE be?
Have you played Civilization or Warcraft or any RTS games before?
-
How "retro" should the mechanics of PE be?
It's been explained many times. The game will be isometric, or cavalier oblique.

Where's that...oh here it is
