I still have that little project ahead of me. The walls in my new flat are baby blue and I have this strange urge gurgling in the darkest pits of my soul to rectify that. Only I don't particularly look forward to the actual project. Heh, it's only taken us 10 years to get this started. We moved here back in 1998 and the walls in all the bedrooms were pink, the bathroom had pink tile/tub/toilet, several rooms had pink carpets as well. You'd never have guessed that it was a little old lady that lived here before us.

I managed to finish (for now) painting one of the rooms in the house today. It's so nice not having pink walls anymore. We still need to replace the pink carpet though.

You have some good examples of games that have worse 3D sequels than the previous 2D incarnations, but at least in the case of MoO3, HoMM4 (and 5 I assume, although I liked that one) and Jagged Alliance 3 their alleged crappiness had nothing to do with them being 3D.

Ive been wondering the same thing. My cable internet provider (Comcast) is instituting a 250GB per month cap before you have to pay extra. I play WoW quite a bit and am curious how much juice that game sucks. I looked at my bill last night and it doesnt detail my monthy usage, which makes sense seeing as how there has never been a limit before, but still. Quick search shows that it's probably around 10-20mb/hour of play. Not enough that I think you should really be worried about with a 250GB cap.

The quality of combat in Bloodlines and other games
Deraldin replied to Dark_Raven's topic in Computer and Console
It stops being fun when you find a combo of styles that the AI can't beat. There was a combo that the AI could beat? I died three times in the game and used nothing except legendary strike (+chi strike for ghosts). Once on the beach at the start and once each for two of the big bad guys that had a habit of putting up that shield that damaged attackers when I'm in the middle of a string of attacks that won't stop. -
If all you care about is Starcraft and Diablo then just about anything out there will do that. Unless you are referring to Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3. Those will need something better. @Gorth: Nearly half the people in my lectures had laptops. I can recall one lecture that had a big UT match going on. About 30 people in the same class were all playing on the same server.

Aren't they supposed to be showing it off at PAX? -
My mistake. I missed the rats when I first looked.

I'm going to shoot whoever keeps logging in and out of MSN while I'm trying to play Crysis. For some reason, whenever an MSN popup appears the game decides to go from full screen to running in a window and takes about 5 minutes to do so. I finally made it through Incursion and I'm on to the tank battle, but even with the game on the lowest settings it's still chugging along right now. I was going to see if I could finish it today before the graphics card and RAM go back for an RMA (pick up is tomorrow) but I think I'll put it down until after I get my stuff back.

I didn't get more than a couple minutes into it, but it's a night mission where you get dropped off by the VTOL and are told to meet up with someone nearby. When you do, the new person gives you an order to take out a bunch of AA emplacements that are preventing any air support from coming in. I didn't get much beyond his little speech because combat is really tough when the game is a slideshow. That's a big battle if I remember Crysis correctly. Lots of helicopters, footmen and boats. Also one of the best levels, drop the graphics a notch or two and see if it helps, possibly the best level in the game. Yup. That's the one.

I've been playing Crysis. I'm up to Incursion so far and for some reason my computer really doesn't like this level. Every other level has been fine, but this one is slideshow city.

I only ever played the demo for Yoda Stories, but I put a lot of hours into that thing...

Tip of the Day: Don't run Vista with only 512MB of ram. Figured out the ram sticks were bad by swapping in a 512 stick and testing that. It came up clean so I shouldn't be the motherboard. Need to RMA the memory. Still need to see if my graphics card it what is causing all the artifacts.
-
It does get really hot. I've been doing some testing today. Went to remove some ram and was surprised at just how hot the card was getting. It's not so bad when I have the side of the case on and it has a 120mm fan blowing right on it, but once you remove that fan it heats up quick. I've been getting a fair bit of artifacting in a couple games (Mass Effect, Space Siege Demo in certain areas) and I'm in the middle of checking everything over. Ran memtest last night for starters and got a couple errors 3 hours into the test. Retested with just the one stick and got some more errors, again on the second pass. Swapped out the two sticks and got some huge number of errors on the second stick. Graphics card is the next component to test.

Bison? I suppose you Canucks eat things like that including moose and elk. Or it could be a dragon thing for eating large animals. Bison is pretty tasty.

Augh! I took my eye off my commander for one second and he wanders off and gets his ass kicked. I was going to win that time too! I had 70 subs and 20 destroyers. The subs were pounding everything in the water and my destroyers were just heading over to the enemy coast to bombard the enemy commander from offshore.
-
I'm finally playing through Supreme Commander and getting my ass handed to me every time the map expands. Working on the third UEF mission. The first map expansion was fine. I had enough of a navy built up at that point that I was good to go and keep pushing on to the second island as soon as it opened and before the Aeon could set up a base. Once the map opened up again I had a fairly decent sized navy. 25 subs and 20 frigates. I wiped out the Aeon navy, but soon he started hitting back with tech 2 ships and I only had two naval yards to produce ships at. Just couldn't build ships fast enough to replace the ones that I was losing to those tech 2 ships.

Has Emily traversed the uncanny valley?
Deraldin replied to Moatilliatta's topic in Computer and Console
Certainly the best I've seen, but there is still something about it that seems a little off. -
As much as I'm sure that would be an infuriating experience when playing, I could help but burst out laughing when I read that.

Thoughts? I played through it yesterday and it felt like there was a good game in there, but was hampered by control issues and a lack of any choices.
