I picked up a copy of NHL 08 for myself yesterday. The last NHL game that I played was NHL 99 I think. I'd have to go see which save files I have on my N64 controller pack. :D Initial reactions are slightly mixed. One the one hand, it's nice to be playing an NHL game again, on the other, there are a lot of little things that bothered me about the game. The skill stick is the first thing that bothered me. I played 5 games using the skill stick and managed to just barely win three of them and got blown out in the other two. I think it's really just a matter of practice. I ended up playing the next 25 games using the classic control scheme instead. Also, I hate the body check being mapped to the right stick in the hybrid controls. I think I've managed to hit someone once with that. The second thing that bugged me is that the opposing goalie can stop a puck without actually being in the net, while my own goalie couldn't keep a beachball out of my own net. I saw Ray Emery make spectacular looking saves in a 5-4 win over me, or they would have been spectacular if he hadn't been five feet away with his feet up in the air when my shot bounced off some sort of invisible wall in front of his net. At the other end of the ice, Huet is letting in 50 foot shots with no traffic a minimum of twice a game. In the above Sens game, he let in goals on the Sens first three shots. The first one is fine as he was completely deked out by Alfredsson, but the next two were slapshots from the blueline with no traffic. Not cool! When you outshoot the opposing team 60-15, spend five times as much time on the attack and still lose the game 5-4, something is wrong. I was lucky I only lost 5-4. I somehow managed to squeak in a 4th goal with 7 seconds left on the clock. The last thing that's bugging me, no one ever loses the puck when the get body checked. Some skaters are worse for this than others (I'm looking at you Sundin!), but unless you charge someone, or get a nice hip check in to send them flying, very rarely have I been able to strip them of the puck. It's damn annoying when you have one guy streak into your zone, shrug off 5 body checks and still score on you. Why is there no button mapping for slashing? My team has currently gone 11-12-0-5 and is 11th in the conference. I've won one of six shootouts I've been in so far. I decided that was enough, so I spent an hour last night in the shootout minigame just practicing dekes with the skill stick. I currently have about a 60% success rate when coming straight in, but I still need to work on coming in off the wing. That's all for now, but I'm sure I'll come up with more stuff later. At least I ended on a high note when I quit last night. I chased Hasek from the net with 4 first period goals on my way to a 6-1 victory. :D

I'm all for robbing banks, but not for a 360. You don't rob banks for $300-$400 unless you have drug problems. Maybe the 360 is just the item on his list that is most applicable to this thread. Who knows what else he might buy.

Well I spent this morning getting my G2 license. Now I can drive the car without having to have a fully licensed driver with me.

You were only outnumbered 3-1 and you still lost?

Half.com doesn't help me all that much. It's missing about half the books on my list (hurray for Canadian editions!). For the other half, I've already found better (closer, higher condition and cheaper), or the campus bookstore is actually cheaper.

I just discovered that my first year uni textbooks will cost me about $600 for the fall semester. There is another $300 worth that I'll need for the winter semester, but I can knock that down to about $100 luckily. I found a copy of my Computer Studies text for half price and the second economics textbook should be easy to find. "Hey Bob! I see you've got a Macroeconomics text, care to trade for my Microeconomics text?"

I had to bike down to school this morning for a presentation. Didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know. Basic stuff like go to class, get help if you need it and don't forget to sleep. After that all the first years got to meet with their "academic advisors" for a quick discussion. At least it would have been quick had they not had some organizational troubles. I left when I heard the name of my advisor called. Followed the right staff person, but still ended up in the wrong place. Had to double back only to find that the room I was supposed to be in was closed, but luckily found there person I was looking for. Then we discovered that half the group that was there with him was there for a different person. Two advisors with the same first name and last initial. Finally managed to separate us, and ended up with only two people so instead of finding a huge classroom we ended up chatting in his office. Since there were only two of us there we finished up early and here I am with another 2 hours before anything else comes up.

Metroid is fun, but there aren't enough hidden items. I'm used to completing the GBA games with scores of around 50%, but without really trying I managed 74%. It might just be because there are a lot fewer items that are completely hidden and instead are just "It's over there, but how do I get there?"

I just finished my first run. Now to try again on hard to make up for playing on normal the first time.

Your thread is redundant. It's in the sticky thread.

My little brother is better at exploring in Metroid Prime 3 than I am. He can't do the combat, but he seems to spot every little secret there is.

Far Cry, Prince of Persia, Raving Rabbids for Free!
Deraldin replied to Morgoth's topic in Computer and Console
You're right, it's not quite the same, but a free game is still a free game. On the Fallout topic, I predict that you'll be able to get it from Bethesda soon. I wouldn't be surprised if they tossed the originals in with Fallout 3 for some sort of "Limited Edition". -

To go along with all the other free games EA is giving away C&C Gold and it's ad free. -
I'm watching Predator right now. I managed to catch more than the last 10 minutes this time.

Peragus is to K2 what Irenicus Dungeon is to BG2. It's fine the first couple times through, but after that it get's really boring.

A buddy of mine lent me his Wii, so I've been playing Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for the past few hours.

Well, at least you know how to touch type, although I wonder how you were able to locate the "NEW POST" button...

I think in this case you need to take both the mainstream gaming press view and NMA. I don't think there is a middle ground yet. You have the gaming press which seems to be trying it's hardest to hype the game like no tomorrow and on the other side you've got the NMA that we all know and love.

I used to have lizards. Two killed each other, one died of something that we aren't sure of, and the other one was eaten by crickets.

Are they really? Huh, never knew that.

I think my random number generator is broken. The last five wild surges I've had have resulted in a sex change. It got to the point where I stopped reloading, because I'd just end up changing again 30 minutes later.

I don't have anything before 10am.

What. The space cop people. They are called Spectres.
