  1. What are "visagoths"?

Are they emo people with a black fetish, a depressing worldview, and lots of money?

  2. Suzanne Vega - Song Of Sand
  3. It's just that there are plenty of countries with fairly strict gun control legislation where military and political oppression is practically nonexistent.
  4. Janis Joplin - Mercedes Benz
  5. Jeffrey Lewis - East River
  6. She is being charged with sexually abusing herself? You Americans are nuts.

  8. Hello crazy swedish person!

  9. Hooray for Pretty Nose!

  10. If that's a jab at Casino Royale, you are in need of a good smack across the head. :bunny:
  11. Oh, c'mon! It had a few good bits. I thought the opening credits were pretty cool (except for the atrocious Madonna song, that is), and the diamond studded guy looked pretty nifty. And Halle Berry is hawt!
  12. I think the word Ravenskya was looking for was "allude", which doesn't have exactly the same meaning as the words you suggested.
  13. The first one that jumps to mind is the Western Roman Empire. At it's zenith no matter where you went in the Roman Empire, the language of business was Latin, and every citizen identified themselves as roman. At the end, in the west the provinces spoke their own languages and identified themselves by their ethnicity. They did not think of themselves as roman citizens and did not owe any fealty to that institution. That is one of the biggest reasons for it's ultimate fall. Heck Alan, it's happening now in your own backyard. The people of Quebec identify themselves more as citizens of Quebec than Canada. The more abstract the idea of Canada becomes to them, the closer they will move to secession. It would be a disaster for both groups. And language is one of the biggest wedge issues right? The key word here is "citizen". Only a very small minority of Roman population were citizens. Also, Roman culture was mainly city based. Outside cities the only Romans you could find were small families living in villas.
  14. Where did you get that one from?
  15. First off, no one cares. Secondly, weren't you the asexual guy? Edit: I just saw your sig.
  16. Indulgences was precisely one aspect in which protestantism was more traditional than catholicism. Indulgences was just one of the things where Luther wanted the church to go back to its more traditional and stricter ways of not selling indulgences. Of course, the Catholic leaders told Luther to go and take a running jump in a lake, and thus a schism happened. Luther was fundamentally a traditionalist, who wanted a stricter, more literal following of Christian teachings, specifically the Bible and Saint Augustine. In fact, both Luther's and Calvin's theology was basically taken from St. Augustine.
  17. Blank, I don't think you understand that the Catholic worldview is based upon a Medieval mindset whereas Protestantism is more dependent upon Renaissance and Enlightenment concepts. First, I'd argue that the Catholic worldview was the basis for the Medieval mindset and not the other way around. Second of all, Protestantism is not more dependent on Renaissance and Enlightenment concepts by itself. In fact, Protestantism as envisioned by Luther, Calvin and the rest, was dogmatically, at least as backwards as Catholicism. While Protestantism did prove to be a lot more conducive to progress than Catholicism, that wasn't due to any doctrinal progressivism on its part but rather, on the fact that they had very little political power and as such couldn't influence goings on as much as the Catholic Church could.
  18. I thought educated people were able to write in their native language without too many mistakes. I guess I was wrong. Also, they lost money in the sense that they voted based on the assumption that that vote would allow them to save money due to the change in taxation. When that didn't happen they, of course, felt robbed.
  19. What about violence to vegetables? (I am not kidding)
