  1. First, that really depends on what's the writer's target audience, and on what the writer is trying to achieve apart from being read. I'm sure Ulysses would be boring to the majority of the world's population. Does that mean James Joyce was a failed writer? But in any case, and more importantly, are you equating popularity with quality?
  2. R00fles! Searching the members list isn't too hard.
  3. As much as I enjoyed Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, I still think the "since KotOR" bit in that sentence isn't really necessary. For my money, the best dialogues in Obsidian's games (Kreia, Myrkul or Marburg are examples) are better than any conversation Bioware has ever written. I can't say anything about DA2, though, as I haven't played it.
  4. To be honest, I enjoyed the forums more in the heyday of awesome posters like Baley, Musopticon, Schmart and Pixiesrock, around the time of the Atomic Danger Squad. Nowadays I'm here more out of familiarity that anything else. There are quite a few cool guys from that time that still post here, but it isn't the same to me, any more. Nevertheless, I still game, and to me Obsidian is the only mainstream developer that seems to be trying to take narrative game anywhere interesting. I wouldn't mind seeing Obsidian do an actual spiritual successor to System Shock 2. Baley was really an awesome poster. The kid could actually write.
  5. AP and MOTB have the same writing style? How do you figure that?
  6. He is the best game designer of all time, who no one talks about. He was the lead in System Shock, designer and programmer in Ultima Underworld 1 and 2, and had a hand in most other LGS projects from Terra Nova to Thief. His part in Deus Ex was minor, as far as I know.
  7. Well, that's the down side of using
  8. It had a snazzy new looking engine for the time, but every new graphical thing was horribly implemented and the art assets were terrible. I never really forgot my character's hand glowing with searing white light in a dark dungeon, thanks to the crap implementation of HDR. Gothic III looked better than Oblivion if you ask me.
  9. KOTOR2 and NWN2 aren't Bioware games. Also, BG2 is better that BG1, easily.
  10. I finished Risen today. As it enters the home stretch, it turns into non stop combat and finishes with an underwhelming boss battle. Still, it was very solid and provided loads of RPGoodness. Besides, the combat is actually pretty good, which made the final chapters much better. Plenty of games really don't need an actual final boss fight. Risen is one of them. Next, I'll be playing through The Witcher to get saves for the sequel.
  11. I've been watching a bit of that. How he swings his blades in a staccato fashion seems hilariously stupid. Other than that, superficially the combat looks like DAO, only much faster and with a worse camera. I probably won't be buying this before the end of the year, if ever.
  12. I actually plan to use Dungeon Siege 3 to create a further bond (a sacred and unique bond, of gaming) with my girlfriend. So that we can reminisce when we're 80.
  13. When I said three years old I was talking about the 8800GT. Regarding the processor required, for starters, the CPU is usually never the bottleneck, and secondly it's just a 300 Mhz difference to the Witcher 2, which is meaningless. In any case, these days, PC game performance is more contingent on your intended screen resolution than on anything else. If a game runs on a console, it should run on any gaming PC of the past 2 or 3 years.
  14. High? A three and half years old graphics card that is available today for 90 bucks doesn't seem particularly high to me.
  15. Vegas 1 and 2 have nothing to do with SWAT 4, though. The tactical FPS genre is dead.
  16. That doesn't have the artbook, nor the cards , nor the dice, nor the big box. But mostly the artbook.
  17. Apparently, the lighting is like that because it isn't done yet. The big red thing at the top is supposed to indicate that the scene's location is actually much darker.
  18. While I have pre-ordered this from GOG, what I really wanted was the snazzy Collector's edition. The problem is Geralt's head... That's just too silly and useless.
  19. Hear, hear!

  21. The first one was really let down by the fact you couldn't play an evil overlord properly, on account of everyone being as evil as you are. The devs really dropped the ball on that. Hobbits should be prancing around wild flowers, being sickeningly nice and cuddly before you hack them with your axe. They shouldn't be drunken, evil psychopaths. Making everyone else evil is missing the point about the appeal of being evil.
  22. I'm not going to touch this until I'm sure it isn't another joke game.
  23. I thought he did a great job when I watched it originally. Just not so much when I rewatched it recently. He's much better in Californication, for example. However, that's not to say he was bad. He certainly grew into the character as the show progressed. In the pilot he was awful, though.
  24. I watched the first two seasons a couple of years ago, and I have to say it hasn't aged very well. The only thing in it that still impressed me was Gillian Anderson's acting. She really is a great actress. Even in the pilot, which was, for the most part, horribly acted, she did a very fine job.
  25. Haha. While I find your your opinion kind of funny, it is just a stating a preference, and as such is fine. However, declaring in the name of everyone, that no one likes the X-files on the forums is fairly roofles worthy.
