  1. Getting ready to drive down to Columbus to visit my buddy - who has tickets for tomorrow's Ohio State vs. Minnesota football game! Should be a cakewalk for the no. 1 Buckeyes, but I'm still pretty stoked, because although I've seen my share of I-AA, MAC and high school games, I've never been part of the big-time college football spectacle. So this last hour of work needs to fly by, 'cause my mind is already gone...
  2. Petra Haden - God Only Knows Acappella version of the Beach Boys classic from a cool singer/violinist who has played with a bunch of bands, including the Decemberists, Sean Lennon, The Rentals, Greg Dulli, the Foo Fighters and Green Day. She also has an acappella version of Thriller posted. I think "quirky" probably is a good adjective for that...
  3. Heh heh that would be tricky... all right back to work.
  4. Actually I was referring to the rapper with the bullet holes who did that ubiquitous "In Da Club" tune: 50 Cent. I tried to spell it phonetically, but I guess I just lost you. Anyway, I referenced the lyrics a post or two back ("We gonna party like it's yo birfday, we gon drink Bacardi like it's yo birfday").
  5. Teenage Fanclub - The Concept The link is to a live version. What a great beginning verse. she wears denim wherever she goes says she's gonna get some records by the Status Quo Ahhhhhh.... Ted Leo! (w00t)
  6. Well, I'm sure "Fitty" would approve of that, too.
  7. So.... did you party like it was your birthday? Or maybe you drank Bacardi like it was, in fact, your birthday?
  8. That was the coolest part of that NoMad. Man, I felt like James Bond when I slipped off the plastic cover and BAM! - USB capable! That was slicker and more stylish than a thousand white earbuds.
  9. Mmmm... sangria. I'm sipping from my big bottle of burgundy tonight. i started off with burgundy and then hit the harder stuff everybody said they'd stand behind me when the game got rough but there was no one there, man, there was nobody even there to bluff i'm goin back to new york city, i do believe i've had enough Oh, and Richard Cheese rules.
  10. On the topic of SanDisk MP3 players: Yeah, they're great. I love my 512 MB little buddy, and it even impressed my techie friend enough for him to buy one of his own. Much more reliable than the 128 MB Creative NoMad I had for a few years. I bought an iPod shuffle for my dad to use on his long bike rides. I didn't like doing it, but I thought it was the simplest choice for a 50-year old man without much high-tech experience beyond the VCR.
  11. I honestly couldn't understand a word she sang. The vocals are just buried. Guitar work is nice though. Van Morrison - Tupelo Honey
  12. Okay, they definitely don't look like hippies. And you know, they don't sound like hippies either. I was actually a few steps ahead of you, and checked out the site and downloaded the song you mentioned. I'm about five minutes into Repentance and I like it. The music is awesome, and it really carries the song through the tempo and style changes. I would like the vocals to be mixed higher though. I assume she's singing in Finnish? I guess with a name like that you have to rock pretty hard so you don't get put on a bill with The String Cheese Incident by accident.
  13. Done. Yeah, I agree with Astr0 that you'll get a lot of extra games listed in that "other" section.
  14. All right, suit yourself. And you're right about the ending. I mean, seven books, God knows how many pages - all leading up to him opening that door at the top of the tower. It was a letdown waiting to happen; there was no way King could have done anything to prevent it.
  15. Are you kidding? Roland didn't exactly lead the charmed life. Sure, you'd be really good at shooting things, but still! Everyone you love getting killed one way or another, getting your fingers bitten off by lobstrosities, catching your mom in the act of adultery -- there's never a happy ending in his world. And did you read the last book, when Roland finally reaches the top of his fabled Tower?
  16. Sounds like a bunch of hippies to me. They probably make music in between hacky-sack sessions. So, are they some kind of Grateful Dead cover band? Whiskeytown - Losering
  17. Good analogy. In my experience, it's rare to find a tab that's actually spot-on. Half of them aren't even in the right key, and even the good ones usually leave out a solo or two. Sheet music should be for if you absolutely have to have every note correct. Tabs were always useful as a starting point, especially for beginners who haven't trained their ear yet to sound out the chords. Ah well, I guess the future is closer than we think: That was a gem worth revisiting. :D
  18. Teenage Fanclub - Tears Are Cool
  19. Yet another birthday thread, I know... but this one is for esteemed member Kor Qel Droma! So, happy birthday to a nice guy with great taste in music! And since he got me into Teenage Fanclub... here is my hastily-found birthday present. :D
  20. I love how the entire "what are you playing" thread keeps veering into a discussion of the merits (or lack thereof) of a single NPC. Anyway, the removal of that pesky "y" in "your" satisfies me immensely. Anyway, I'll probably play some more BG1 tonight.
  21. Yes, listened last night actually. I like the slowed-down, coffeeshop feel of it. My friend's version is definitely closer to the Iron and Wine version. Thanks buddy! The Verve - Lucky Man (not an ELP cover)
  22. The Decemberists - We Both Go Down Together on Sirius Satellite Radio. I guess you can listen online for free for today and tomorrow. I'll probably have five "Buy Sirius today!" e-mails per day from them now or something.
  23. You must have a lot of closet space. Pixies probably doesn't have enough time to make the LEGO OE forum movie... he's probably too busy getting pysched for the new pixies album!!!17!!!! (Which I personally think is a bad idea, sure to disappoint, tarnishing their legacy while selling a bazillion copies)
  24. Paul Simon - Graceland the Mississippi Delta is shining like a national guitar Always loved that line.
  25. Wow... I missed the contact lens discussion. No matter how drunk I get (and I have been falling down, puking in the streets drunk on several occasions) I always take my contacts out before hitting the sack. It's habit, like brushing your teeth. Sometimes I don't remember doing it, but I always do it. I can't even take a nap with my contacts in. Sleeping with them in gives you the feeling that your eyes are crusted over and can't even open... it's awful. Lasik eye surgery is an option, but not for a recent college grad like myself. I lack the funds (and the inclination to get my eyes cut open... I know it's safe, it just sounds creepy when you read about it).
