*nods* thats quite true.. some days are good.. others not so good with playing LORD. Luck of the dice as it were. They just came out with a newer version of LoGD thats now modular based. Similar to the old door game. You can write a module for it in PHP and plug it in to the core. It a beta version, will prob wait until a production level version come out to put it up but its looking pretty nice from what I seen. May want to check it out.

You start out with 50 gold, enough to by a lvl 1 weapon or lvl 1 armor. Perhaps a bit late to suggest.. but id buy one or the other right off the bat. To everyone - Does the tounge in cheek humor detract from the game? Would you perfer a more 'serious' D&Dish game? Or do you perfer it as is?

I find this thread fairly humorous. ANY game can be a 'RPG' by definition. There is no 'this game has to have this aspect to be a RPG' except personal opinion or preference. To get to the core of the matter define what 'RPG' is. In effect a game where you place yourself in the role of the PC. That's it. Thus if you play most any game with that mind set you are, technically, playing a 'RPG'. ie. playing doom with the midset your a marine trapped on mars, playing simcity 4 with the mindset your a new mayor with asperations of greatness, playing mechcommander 2 with the mindset your a merc out to make a buck and couldnt care less about loyalites, playing deus ex that your j.c. and your riding the forefront of a world conspiricy, etc.. This thread is nothing more then personal opinion and preference, which is fine and everyone is entitled too. But it in no way delutes the fact what a RPG is and always has been. My 2 coppers

Please post your gameplay feedback here. Also keep in mind it takes on a D&D kind of tounge-in-cheek tone. Its not a 'serious' RPG type game, it ment to be taken with a bit of humor. With that said, I would also like to know if this is the kind of tone you would like or would you prefer a more 'serious' fantasy game. (There's no reason I couldn't install 2 for both types of players, but I need to know what players would like.) In the game you fight random monsters and other players, have special random encounters, with your earnings buy better equipment, etc Old time BBSers will reconize it as loosly based on the old 'Legend of the Red Dragon' (L.O.R.D) BBS Door game. If you don't like linear game play/story you will then dispise Torment. Torment is a very good/involving story but its more alines of reading a book then playing a game. Your ability to think or do 'out side the box' is mostly nil. FYI

The point/comment was not which IE game was better story wise then another.. the comment was playing BG1 to understand/appreciate the story in BG2 more in depth.

Just on a visual level I think lineage 2 looks amazing. I am hoping nwn2 will look just about the same on a quality scale.

Agreed, I'm sick of fantasy games. Especially DnD... though Eberron "might" be ok since it's "odd" enough. Obsidian should beg Microsoft for the rights to do a Shadowrun game. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Couldnt agree more. A well done 3E SR game would be a excellent PC game I would love to see made. SR is a well developed game system with a very interesting background.

I just bought a 6600gt and the performance is amazing. I had a gf3 ti 200 which have a fill rate of 200million polys/sec. The 6600gt has a fillrate of 3 or 4 billion (I forget which). I can max out eye candy on every game I have and its smooth as glass. While the 6800 will prob get you another 12-18 months longer lifetime then the 6600gt you pay for it. For a $200. this is a top of the line, mid range card. I dont think ill need to upgrade again for another 2 yrs.

I use a forum that has a (basic, but being expanded) karma system but its interesting none the less. In general you can enable you post to only be read my someone with x amount of karma. How you gain karma points: - posting - getting replies to your initial post to start a thread - getting your post voted highly (only works if you have the ability for members to vote on posts. poor, fair, average, good, excellent kind of thing. Good and excellent posts gain you karma) - having your post stickied - total number of hits/reads your post gets How you loose karma - having your post deleted by mod/admin - having your post voted below average by members - having your thread locked - Mod or admin removing karma for poor behavior. Thats how the karma system is planned out for the forum I use. I think it adds a interesting element and makes it easy for those that want to filter out trolls and annoying posters. As they will get negative karma ratinging eventually and you have a way to avoid their posts.

Something I feel the need that needs be said as from some posts here I think some members are misinformed. Obsidian does NOT choose the medium it gets shipped with. Thats the publisher. It would behove those that want one or the other to post on the proper forums. Nothing can be done by the devs here.

Gygax created GH. Go read the 30th anniversery article on gamepsy about the history of D&D for all the gory historical details. Greenwood stated he took a lot from other fantasy sources (JRR, norse mythos, king arthur, GH, etc) to create the FR. It is little more then a hodpodge of predefined works thrown into a blender. While thats not saying its a good nor bad setting, just stating it on a factual level. I also agree its really the DM who defines the 'high' or 'low' magic of a setting, but the sourcebooks DO set the tone for the DM generally speaking.

Technically speaking, writting code/development for a console is much simpler then a PC.

What ever happened to the underwater ruins found off cuba a few yrs back? Last I heard nat'l geographic sent a team down and other such org's were looking into it. Then it seemed to drop off the radar. I always thought that was going to be shown to be atlantis. Rumor were all over that it was going to be announced it was altantis but nothing was ever said. If not altantis then who did those ruins belong to?
