Sheeeeeet, time to dust off my joystick.

The Avengers. Actually the first 20 minutes, that's how much I could stand before reaching for the remote Also: Metropolis (anime) - exceptionally well drawn, storyline is muddled garbage Men in Black 3 - it doesn't have the charm of the first one, but its quite enjoyable

Or you could just get a whore and dress her up in bikini mail, for a fraction of the time and effort.

Broken Sword 5 kickstarter has been up for a while apparently. I have mixed feelings about this. BS 1 and 2 were my favorite games for a long while when I was a gaming noob. BS3 was perhaps the game I anticipated the most, ever. And it was colossal ****. I was so angry with Revolution I didn't even look at BS4. On the plus side BS5 will be (since its raised the goal) 2D, hand drawn. On the other hand, I don't trust Cecil to deliver. The man took a dump on everything good he ever made with BS3 with its brain dead puzzles and crate constant crate pushing.

Don't become a slave to games, mang. Nobody's forcing you to finish these on time. Or at all.

Here's something unconventional: http://www.cabrerabrothers.com/ A cyberpunk text adventure with hand drawn static pictures... If the writing is any good it could be a nice diversion. Its not like we get much cyberpunk these days anyway.

You'll be back here before you know it.

The trailer is excellent. Its the only real complaint I ever had about the original CoH - that it didn't feature the main theater of WWII. I hope to god my poor pc will be able to run it. And if we get HW3 too I can finally retire from this hobby.

Old games wanted on Steam/GOG
Drowsy Emperor replied to Hassat Hunter's topic in Computer and Console
They are a ton of old games I'd at least try to play if their interfaces got updated to today's standards. But with most titles I just can't be bothered. That's because apart from a few big names like System Shock 2 and Lucasarts adventures, GOG already has everything worth playing - the stuff that's been coming for a while (old releases) are often above average games at best. The other reason is that I've already played everything I really like to death and I'd need a real reason to dig in and do it all over again (like with BGEE, but that's another story). And on a more constructive note I'd like to see Discworld: Noir and Blade Runner. I never got a chance to play them. And the Myth series and Homeworld because I'd like new gamers to play them and enjoy them as much as I did, back in the day. -
Pharaoh + Cleopatra. You know, for all the moaning about the death of the RPG (which I have participated in, I admit), its the strategy games that have really died. I can't remember the last time I played a good strategy game, or at least one that wasn't a sequel to something or other. Odd that the most popular of them, the RTS fared the worst. We still get the occasional managment or turn based game but apart from Blizzard's cash cow and Relic its a dead genre.

Fallout 1's animations are quite obviously a joke that didn't strive for realism - because you know, guns don't actually blow people up. This trailer features an in your face portrayal of the main character slitting someone's throat done so for the sole reason of making the player feel powerful, innocent people burning to death (this is what that looks like in real life ) and rats eating corpses solely for shock value. Its porn for teenagers. That said, I do want to see a gameplay video before condemning the game totally.

I think there are 13, but the last three may not be real full length dungeons.

I somehow doubt they're going to do the "after 10 days of marching with a heavy weight on your back, drinking half a cup of water per day a bullet hit your head at 300m and you never saw from where," real realism. Really. Can't stress how much I detest modern shooters. Long live TF2 silliness.

I wonder if we're going to reach the visual peak of violence in games any time soon. Personally I find the throat cutting scene disgusting. How juvenile do people have to be to find that appealing? Skipping this superhero crap. Yeah, I mean, a game from the creators of Arx Fatalis and Dark Messiah. Also having the lead designer of Deus Ex 1 and the art director of Half Life 2 involved. All of them citing their passion for Thief ans such. Yeah, skipping that superhero crap too. I mean, DAY 1 PURCHASE!!!! You, have a lot of money to burn. What I saw in that trailer was Assasin's Creed from a first person perspective, with a lot of nice real world design and a lot of bad imaginary steampunk design.

That's... disturbing. Seriously though. Since you are apparently following this quite closely, have they mentioned any changes to common hardcoded annoyances? I'm thinking stuff like <CHARNAME> petrification/imprisonment = game over, fully charmed party = game over, etc. That's the kind of thing that should be a piece of cake for pro developers to fix, but has been known to cause no end of grief to players. I've no idea. Nothing regarding gameplay fixes has been mentioned so far. It should be a pretty minor thing to fix, if they're aware of it. There's a huge list of things players want to see on a topic at the Beamdog forums, I'll check at some point to see if its there I didn't bookmark the page so I have to look for it all over again.

Huh...that actually makes the game seem a bit too easy. I think I'd prefer permadeath. There's only one crystal on each level and they're often right at the end. Playing on hard I can tell you, by level 7 I'm starting to really need them. I think for most it's less that combat is a "problem" and more that it's repetitive. Even way back when it was repetitive. Would have been nice if they could have found a way to alter that a bit while still retaining the old feel. Taking a break from Grimrock for a few days I think...going to play some Casear3 maps instead. Something less combat oriented for variation. Oh...this weekend I also tried playing FNV on the big TV using a controller. Complete with all my mods. I eventually got used to the xbox controller for Borderlands but for FNV...I think I'll pass. Too bad, would have been nice to play it a little on the huge screen. I don't think this is necessarily true, most RPG combat is far more repetitive and consists only of clicking on the target and waiting for auto attack to finish the job. Secondly there isn't that much combat in Grimrock. By level 7 I've killed only 350 monsters, which is peanuts to most other games. It seems combat oriented because it can't be played on autopilot like other games. It forces you to pay attention constantly which makes it seem much more combat heavy than it is. I can see how people who like to breeze through fighting to the rest of the content would dislike this, but the fear of turning a corner because something might jump in your face is an integral part to the atmosphere.

Jeez, what a backwater

Yeah, that's where I am. At this point I must admit to myself that I enjoy the puzzles a lot more than the combat. One gog review apparently complained that combat was "based on your WASD Tango Skill," which I think is a rather apt description. At least the puzzle focus means the combat isn't always the focus, tho. I also wish they had varied the tileset a bit more. I realize this is a very low budget etc. game but it wouldn't have taken that much to give it a slightly less generic feel, while still retaining that old skool flavor, I think. I'm not finding the combat a huge problem, if there's at least a 2x2 space to retreat to. It can be tiring if you play a lot in one sitting. I'm enjoying it because I haven't played this kind of game before. I can see how you wouldn't enjoy it after a lot similar games.

Still level 6 in grimrock, the game is starting to get nasty.

Whatever, it was as stale as the rest of the Space Marine shooters we've been playing these last years. If that is the best "next gen" gaming that I'm supposed to buy a new graphics card for I think I'll just stick to laughing at people who do.

Yaay, all that money and effort well spent. Crysis 3. Woohoo. Because we need another ****ty FPS.
