  1. not in underworld. it's a 50/50 split. they fear each other. the hybrid... that's the key. it'll rule all. yes... not long now... taks
  2. i'd go straight to the heart of the matter and wrap that sucker back up in its original package and beg to have your money returned. better yet, clear a small area in your room, preferably a room that does not have a flammable floor, such as an unfinished basement, then place the oblivion package, and all of its contents, in the cleared area. pour an accelerant on the pile of garbage you've just created and then touch a lit match, or perhaps one of them long lighters, to the pile. it should light readily. chant any ritualistic verse you can find that thanks the video game gods for not crucifying you for playing as long as you did. it will get better. time heals all wounds. taks
  3. crap... get a new one. given the effort you've put into this, just buy a new one. don't get toooo extravagant if you have a 20 pin connector, however, as it won't be that useful in the future. yes, the power connector is the big'un. new ones are 24 pins, 12 per row, while the old ones are 20 pins, 10 per row. the new supplies also have the funny SATA power connectors on them, which may or may not exist on the older supplies. taks
  4. new and from a reputable brand is the key. even a 500 W antec trupower is under $100 retail, so you're not looking at a major expense. what you need to be careful of, however, is that new supplies are 24-pin vs. 20-pin. if your system is older, make sure you figure out which you need first. taks
  5. there's two types of sony rear projections, one is the standard WEGA and the other is the SXRD (with WEGA engine). the SXRD, which i'm probably going to get at some point soon, is sony's version of LCOS. i find the picture to be about as crisp as the DLP projections, with a higher contrast ratio (10000:1 now, much greater than standard LCDs). also, there are no moving parts so i don't have to worry about the spinning wheel making a noise that i can hear (yes, i can hear it... drives me nuts). anyway, in the US, particularly CO, the 50A2000 is about $1600-$1800 right now, and the newer version (apparently with better sound, which i don't need), the 50A2020 is about $2200. i'll wait till i can get the former for less than $1500 delivered. taks
  6. in the context of "when the constitution was written," i agree. i was more or less extending it to a general case. taks
  7. that doesn't make sense at all. personal liberty and slavery are not irreconcilable. the rights provided by the constitution cannot infringe upon inalienable rights, of which life and freedom stand highest, and the "right" to slavery would most definitely infringe upon another's freedom. taks
  8. if there were overheating you'd have other indications, and you'd probably get an error message in your system log (have you checked it?). my vote is PSU or mobo issue, both of which i have had fail on me before (with identical symptoms in the PSU scenario). a power supply failure is one that will not leave a message since, well, there's no power for it to do so. note that a 400W PSU likely isn't really 400 _usable_ watts, either, particularly for many off-brand supplies. taks
  9. personally, i think it is impossible for a politician to NOT be hypocritical. they have to please so many people, often with opposing agendas, they ultimately wind up in contrary positions from one day to the next... positions they don't necessarily agree with, either. taks
  10. my school has apparently stepped up its security as a result of this, and extended counseling hours for those in need. 2000 miles away yet still they worry. i suppose it's not a bad thing, however. my boss is a VT alum and he didn't seem too shaken up, though i did hear him mention it yesterday with a little shock/concern in his voice. my thesis co-advisor is an engineering professor at VT, and, fortunately, he does not appear to be one of those directly affected. i intend to find out from my current advisor if my former advisor was directly affected in any way (they're still in contact as they co-author some books together). has anyone heard if the guns were obtained legally or not? taks
  11. roxie's has interactivity. i never really got into the strip-club thing simply because, well, the stripper ain't going home with you so why get all worked up over nothing. the internet has plenty of pron available and it's FREE!!! $8 bucks for a small, weak, drink and tips out the wazoo don't fit into my idea of fun. taks
  12. that's not true in all of illinois. the clubs on the east side of st. louis (not really in east st. louis, but nearby) are all full liquor and full nudity. sauget is home to PT's and diamond club, both of which are owned by the same company. full nude though they represent the high-end of strip clubs. go a little north to brooklyn and you get all sorts of nasty establishments. roxies is the best, another PT's franchise, btw. it has full nude, full liquor and, not only will they kick your drink off the table, they'll do it while sitting on your face. some of the others are pretty raunchy. the rules you refer to must be county by county... some of the clubs in that area are also open 24 hours (pop's saloon and music... ahh the memories, too bad it burned to the ground. nothing like getting kicked out for being too drunk at 8 am). taks
  13. i'm sure volourn would verify that vologic and common sense have occasional, albeit spurious, correlations. taks

    Yayz!!!!!!

apparently a 4th is already in the works... unverifiable source on that, however. taks
  15. because an escape from reality is what many that play crpgs (or rpgs in general) seek. mythical beings with strange powers, swords and sorcery have always captured my interest at least. i think the fact that it is unimaginable that reality could have ever been, or ever be, as such, is what makes it interesting. i.e. you're playing around in a realm that cannot exist anywhere except in your mind. taks
  16. the terminator 4... taks
  17. I see you have not seen Alien Versus Predator. which was pretty retarded. so was alien: resurrection, IMO. i liked DH3 better than 2, i'll admit, though the concept of a 4th seems... well, bruce is getting a bit old to be jumping off buildings. POTC2 was good, though it ended poorly (obviously done that way for the 3rd). there's supposed to be another indiana jones, too. harrison ford will have to be the dad this time, IMO. he's too old to be romping in the jungle. taks
  18. yes, it is the fault of socialism because it cannot account for demand, which is a direct result of all of those supposed human "weaknesses." i have a friend that i shoot pool with. he grew up in east berlin (well, just outside of there). i asked if it was a big change when the wall came down. his comment: "i no longer had to wait in line for bananas." period. one sentence highlighted the entire problem of socialism: everyone has the same right to every product, and there is no way to control that. you can't raise prices because everyone is supposedly equal (note that prices are based on cost, since there is no profit). raising prices means nobody gets the product. hence, demand goes unchecked and you end up with discrimination based on who gets in line first. capitalism automatically controls this. demand goes up, prices go up. too bad if you cannot afford them. in the end, the average well-being in a capitalist society is MUCH better than that of a socialist society. re: your comment about pollution... hate to burst your bubble, but socialist societies are actually worse because they are much more inefficient. i.e., it takes more work, more labor, more everything to produce the same amount of goods as a capitalist society. taks
  19. so does socialism... duh. slippery slope argument, based on a false premise. your logic... it amazes. taks
  20. nonsense. what everyone fails to realize is that china is in the same, actually worse, situation than the US was 100 years ago. we had sweatshops then. we had poor conditions. but we also had a legal right to form unions (which are now unnecessary, btw), and did. guess what, no more sweatshops. poor conditions are relegated to very infrequent circumstances (and often uncovered and dealt with). the notion of any form of socialism will provide any benefit to human quality of life has been shown repeatedly to be a pipe dream. it cannot happen. taks
  21. wow, a success story involving MS winders, and its registry no less, solved in under 5 posts... with help from SAND!!! ZOMG! taks

    An Act of War?

very true. agreed, as well, that their political system is weird. a theocracy that the majority do not truly favor (hence the "liberal" statement you made). i'd venture to guess those in charge would find another similar saber rattler to put in his place. taks

    An Act of War?

emphasized part is what i was getting at. i'd hardly say that iraq is bankrupting us. US $50B/year is a drop in the bucket to us with >US $2T/year in tax dollars to blow. though to a smaller country, that certainly would be significant. taks
  24. oh no, i am taks and taks alone. i disagree with sock-puppetry unless they openly admit they're using an alt... sand USUALLY does in a roundabout way. i could not ever bring myself to post with as many spelling errors as vol. besides, he's a kanadian named ted (right?) and i'm a coloradan named mark. taks

    An Act of War?

to me, then, it sounds like the EU really doesn't have any authority to declare war, or military action of any kind. even if it did, i would never understand how an unelected leadership could be given, or allowed to assume, authority to risk citizen's lives. taks
