  1. I got all psyched about it because I watched the trailer and wrongfully assumed it represented the film I was about to watch. Turns out it represents the first 5 minutes of the movie. First 5 minutes, badass viking movie. 2nd hour and a half was just... well just awful. I've never been more disappointed by a movie in my life. I now know how people who knew nothing about Watchmen felt after their expectations were set by the trailer. If your movie is a slow plodding confusing art film, don't market it as a badass viking action movie.
  2. Just watched it as well. Thanks netflix. Wanted to buy it but its still 35 bucks on Blu-Ray... I kept hearing the Narnia stuff was Christian Propaganda but the first 2 flicks were just fun fantasy flicks. Aslan's speech at the end of Dawn Treader was definitely awkward though. Definitely a fun movie though. I think Prince Caspian is my favorite so far though. Any word on if they're going to make more?
  3. Started reading Tad Williams Memory Sorrow and Thorn series, onto the Stone of Farewell now. Its a tough read, I absolutely hated Simon for the first 2/3rds of Dragonbone Chair and was just hoping he'd die so the book could focus on the more interesting character of... oh everyone else in the book. Was pleasantly surprised to see the character actually grow though, and I hate him less now, and he's no longer alone so often so he has all the quality supporting characters to prop him up. I will say though, that I have never skipped over so much unnecessary description. And I've read almost every Wheel of Time book.
  4. I enjoyed Green Lantern, but I don't remember Hal Jordan being a whiny bitch in the comics. A **** yes, but not a whiny bitch. As long as you ignore the scene of Sinestro getting the yellow ring after the credits, it has a good setup for a sequel. This is definitely a movie that suffers from being an origin story.
  5. I'd like to see something in the Tacoma/Seattle/Vancouver (BC, not WA) area. You could see the conflict between the conquered Canadians and the American oppressors extended into the future, see the ruins of Bremerton with shattered husks of battleships and aircraft carriers. Maybe have a faction based out of a submarine in the area.
  6. I'm throwing out another possibility: Thundercats. I would be all over that. Especially the current show. They have established multiple races, mostly a fantasy settign with bits of technology. Would be an excellent setting for an RPG.
  7. Final Fantasy 8 might have been mostly crap, but its opening theme kicked all sorts of ass: Another mention for the Chrono Cross theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-h-n43xOqg...6F0B604C703062C Suikoden III: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8z_hCwrNcLs War for Cybertron end theme:
  8. Meet the Spartans was pretty damn funny in my opinion.
  9. Been slowly going through my list on Netflix. Art School Confidential - Pretty much sums up my views of the art world. Cashback - Was actually a charming flick. Even the douchebag characters you can't help but like. Anna and the King - Actually really liked it. After reading Shadow of the Hegemon I got all interested in Thailand and this just made me more interested. Machete - Dear god if you're a man and don't like this flick you should have your **** revoked. Robert Rodriguez is the king of fun turn off your brain action movies.
  10. http://eztv.it/tvnews/5808/true-blood-crea...nes-casts-four/ Well, Craster has been cast so I guess he's in.
  11. Just got back from Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Probably the best movie I've seen all year.
  12. So... is it ok to say "TAKE THAT!" to the snooty brits who looked down on us Vancouverites now?
  13. Thats kind of disappointing. I liked that he disgusted everyone from the wall but because he was the only one north of the wall loyal to them they put up with it.
  14. The next two books are much more interesting than the first one. So I anticipate the next 2 seasons being much more interesting as well. Not how I pictured Stannis at all. Actually the dude playing Davos is more how I pictured Stannis.
  15. I keep stopping at about the time the kid gets tossed off the roof. I always seem to run out of steam at that point. But I'm always game for another shot. I can't remember what the rule of thumb was. I think it was something like if you can get passed the 2nd Bran chapter you'll finish the book.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hock...article2106949/ Jets unveil the new logo. I'm actually digging it. Kinda think the air force wings should be the main logo with the circle as the shoulder patches, but its still nice. Will make good hats.
  17. The teaser for DKR was pretty disappointing. Bunch of footage from previous flicks with some barely intelligible voiceover. Looking forward to the flick, but I'm thinking Avengers is going to be my most anticipated of 2012.
  18. Lord of the Rings? Seriously. Didn't hate it but forced my way through Fellowship then just gave up like 3 chapters into Two Towers. Just boring and badly written. The movies are better. Also hated the Great Gatsby. Had to read it for grade 12 english and after the chapter that just lists everyone he invited to a party I told my teacher I couldn't read that tripe and to just fail me on that section of the class.
  19. I couldn't even get through half of the Sword of Shanarra. And I second Eyes of the Dragon. Someone got it for me because it was their favorite Stephen King book. First and last Stephen King book I'll read most likely.
  20. You would hate the saga of recluce. I really don't know how the hell L.E. Modesitt Jr can make buying boots and cleaning sewers so fascinating.
  21. I've re-read them a couple times and actually find new stuff every time.
  22. Finnish Power Metal FTW.

I'm ashamed of my fellow Vancouverites tonight. Vancouver played well tonight, but Boston is just the better team, and no amount of whining about the reffing or conspiracies will change that. Seems the fans in the stands were the only civil ones in the damn city though. Anyone who says a goalie can't win a game didn't see Thomas though. Without him it would have been a very different series.
  24. Especially if Jeph Loeb is involved.
