  1. I used to like alternate histories when I was younger but big events like full scale nuclear war are too hard to speculate. Way too many variables and it makes every story just full fantasy. Best alternate future stories are about small events and only about very limited timeframe.
  2. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl only 2
  3. Actually to adept is the correct way to go as that's what we humans do the best. Worst case scenario might be same with 1km asteroid collision, global nuclear winter, nearby star going supernova, massive volcano, Malthusian catastrophe, global pandemic or peak oil financial breakdown. We could prepare for each one of the scenarios but it would be extremely expensive and ultimately impossible because not enough of the people would accept that it's the right thing to do.
  4. Mass Effect is only 3,75
  5. China and US played this event great. EU will pay up (with debt money), few 3rd world dictators get new yacht and some guns and everything else stay about the same. And by same I mean that heavy industry contine to flee into China while we take more debt and figure out even more complex financial instrument deriatives for the NEXT bubble.
  6. JRPGs would be one genre that I wouldn't miss at all. But Final Fantasies and Dragon Quests will be made forever so I guess JRPGs are here to stay. Developers and writers in the west get at lot of heat because they use same tired cliches and combat mechanics but in reality they have evolved way more then JRPGs. I read article about 5 years ago how japanise gamers not only wanted the same combat mechanics in every game, they also wanted the same story. Us old skool CRPG players in here might wish some type of turn based combat would still be in modern games but even then we'd want to see new stories. I guess finally japanise got tired or ain't big enough market for niche type of products that cost millions to make. Handheld devices are probably best option (same goes for all turn based CRPGs).
  7. There's huge amount of games under 5
  8. I played only 3 new games this year - Empire Total War, Dragon Age and Mirror's Edge (from Steam sale under 4
  9. Xbox achievements list. Minor spoilers but nothing too bad.
  10. Oh damn. Finally possible good thing about this deal with iD. Can't wait to see Bethesda game without horrible Gamebryo engine.
  11. I'm 99% jaded of CGI. Now the more subtle the CGI effects are in the movies, the better for me. 20 years of following the advancement of the 3d have finally reached the breaking point. I just don't care about the CGI in the movies, story and setting is much more important. Even if I'd still love the CGI, I sure wouldn't like the design of those blue aliens. Broad nose bridge, huge gap between the eyes, freaky furry eyes and ears, ghetto hair... and the light blue color... ewwww.
  12. I like this. More games should take the leap of faith and get characters killed based on choices that player made. This is much better then option just to kill some NPC without any chance because writers precious storyline "required" it to happen.
  13. HL2 HL2 - ep 1 HL2 - ep 2 Portal Team Fortress 2 Empire Total War Mirror's Edge Bloated POS - 39,7 Gt Damn Empire takes a lotta space.
  14. Don't know about that. They have a lot of users with banned or probation tags (with reasons). Anyway, Escapist boards are probably good gauge of current "hardcore" player profile. For 'em PC is ancent relic, shooters started with Halo, CRPGs started from Oblivion (or Morrowind for those REALLY old skool) and Space Sims, adventure games or turnbased strategy games never existed. It's almost uncanny how many errors there can be even in a single post. There are some oldtimers posting in there but I have to wonder why they bother.
  15. Well done LucasArts! To be able to choose the most boring option is somekind of achievement. *Achievement unlocked*
  16. Dragon Age is so calculated game that someone knew for sure. And Elfs are not only ones that got changed in Tolkien's world - Ettins to Trolls, Maiar to Balrogs, Hobbit to Gollum ( ), Humans to Nazg
  17. New trailer with VO talent While these stars might not be in their prime anymore / yet, it must have cost a lot of money for EA to get 'em.
  18. I think it starts from the Gray Warden organization. Writers have freedom to do whatever they like but they should be careful with Landsmeet type of events. If too many unlikely events happen at the same time, it gets harder and harder to justify it as plausable and then it just becomes bad writing or plot development.
  19. I agree. I'm sure that if EA tries really hard they can make the sequel worse but it won't be easy. Most likely any change they make will be for the better, even if they'd randomly roll the dice what to do next. Dead Space was one of the worst games I've played in recent years.
  20. Finished Mirror's Edge earlier today. Well worth under 4
  21. Sequel could take 3 years but I'm not sure if EA is willing to wait that long. Dragon Age engine is more or less done and we shouldn't expect any major changes on it. Most likely they try to target 2 year schedule like they did with Mass Effect (+- few months).
  22. I think elfs in Dragon Age are ultimate losers. Actually they're so pitiful that it's great Bioware made two origins for 'em. Not only they lost their immortality, they've lost war after war. To Tevinter Empire, to humans in general, to overgrown dogs. They are still slaves in many nation states. Thus it makes sense that they're timid and not fierce guerilla fighters. Their cowardice is probably only reason why they haven't been hunted down to extinction.
  23. Yeah, this time around (or disgrunted and disfigured elven mage who want to take revenge on everything and everyone). I usually try to play Chaotic Stupid
  24. That's just you being stubborn and not facing the facts. There were several tough moral choices in DA, maybe they the story wasn't good enough for you to actually feel anything for the characters but saying those choices weren't there is just a lie. As an example: On my first play through I went to Redcliffe before clearing the Circle of Magi tower, and when presented with the option to either: , I definitely felt like facing a tough moral choice. Or at the end, before facing the Archdemon, , that definitely felt like a very tough moral choice to make. Redcliffe was clear choice both times for my characters.
