Probably just more Imagine Babyz, Petz and weird teen stuff like last year: Great, a tugjob simulator. Says everything about the current state of the games biz!

So in your theory they target segment who own (powerful enough) PC and Xbox360 (without modchip) or PS3? And they'd have patience to wait 6-12 months and then pirate it on PC? That surely don't sound right, especially when Take-Two Interactive Software Inc is publicly traded company, who shouldn't lie in offical statements.
-
Yes, because PR people aren't full of **** and you should always listen to what they say.. Ok, I'll bite. Why would Rockstar lie? Do they have exclusive deal with BOTH Microsoft and Sony? Are they scared of pirates who don't have Xbox360 modchips? Unsure if they can make PC version in certain timeframe? None of the reasons I can think make any sense. Especially to make statement on offical site to say that there's no PC version in development.

Time to cry "As of now, there are no current plans to bring Red Dead Redemption to the PC platform," reads a statement on RockstarGames.com. "If that should change, we will let you know."

Looks like rockstar's high stakes gamble paid off. From take2 q2 report

Obsidian making Dungeon Siege III
Niten_Ryu replied to Morgoth's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Uh oh. Obsidian must be bleeding money from left and right to make sequel to one of the most boring trailroad diablo clones. -
How has this game done financially?
Niten_Ryu replied to Busomjack's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I bet sales of AP are abysmal. 65% in metascore and 6,3 rating on user side. Only some casual games can make profit with such low scores. CRPGs are definately not a niche genre but it's certain that Obsidian (and Sega) don't know how to reach the modern gamers. And since AP is not even a hardcore oldskool CRPG, I think they managed to miss just about everyone. -
It don't mix in 2000's or 90's sense but certainly do mix in early 80's sense, in the time when cyberpunk hit the mainstream. If for no other reason then the fact that cool kids in those days used to be new wave, post punk, electronica, new romantix ect ect. So yes, tight trousers of all kinds and baggy shoulder shirts / jackets were hip, no matter how ridiculous they look. Tight timeframe? Fashion can and will change unbelivabaly fast so in few years it could be very different look for the hipsters and couple years later for the mainstream.

Counterpoint:img I like the two on the left. I like 'em all

Yeah, we all like to think it didn't happen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPgHbt0ODr4 + countless other unforgeable trax Well, you might be right. In Sovient Union 80's must have been way different then in western world. I visited it only once in 80's and it was like moving back in time (and in those days Finland was already too exotic for the most westerners). Also 80's pop culture didn't make the difference between baroque, classical and romatic period, so techically one could argue that they were ripping off only romanticism, and not baroque.
-
I think baroque and perhaps romanticism work really well with cyberpunk setting because that genre was popular in the 80's. And in the 80's new romatix were so popular that it was one of those things that shaped the era. For me the cyperpunk is always 80's vision of the dystopian future. Cyberpunk 2020... heh... less then 10 years away. Yup, I'll stick with 80's veriosn of the era

Wonderful art direction on that DeusEx 3 trailer. Now all they need is pure FPS combat and stealth mechanics and interesting story (easier said then done). Cautious optimism.

I've done three runs so far (game can be complited very quickly, I think my first run as stealth character took 4-5 times longer then with next runs with full combat characters). Actually there's very few storyline bugs (meaning most of the time youe choices get correct reasion) and I've only experienced one game crashing bug (and now I sort of know how to avoid it... ). While combat is flawed and (most) boss fights terrible, a lot of it can be fixed by selecting easy difficulty and going full into assault rifles and toughtness (and few points to martial arts). That way you get to experience the good storyline and least likely end up with any game stopping situations.

Daddies huh ? Genghis Khan is direct ancestor for about 8% of the males alive today in greater asia area. Player characters are usually several times more powerful then our busy mongol leader. Every game world would turn into Bhaalspawn saga

Damn those are some brutal scores. It's safe to say that Obsidian definately is not on the same page with modern gamers. For us oldskoolers that might not matter but for company that need to make profit in order to stay aloat, it's a terrible thing. Obsidian will suffer the same end result as Looking Glass and Troika did, if they don't ace with Fallout: New Vegas.

Finished my first run on Alpha Protocol. I think Hard + Rookie difficulty, full stealth no weapons spec character was a really poor choice. Writing and story were good but boss fights with that character were some of the worst I've experienced in any game. And by worst I mean stupidly desinged. Respawning lackeys while bosses accurately chip away your pitiful health... in closed spaces no less. I wonder who got braindamaged while designing those fights. Some of the smaller missions, where you didn't have hordes of enemies or bosses were actually ok. CIA listening post and such. Fights, especially boss fights just became tedious task just to advance the plot. Cut combat in half, remove all boss fights (as in traditinal boss fight mechanics - full clip just to take down tiny amount of bosses health, ultra fast speeds ect ect) and game wouldn't be as bad as it's now.

Ok.. who's up for ALPHA PROTOCOL 2 !
Niten_Ryu replied to khawaja07's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I'd be very suprised if there's going to be sequel for the Alpha Protocol. Only way I could see it work would be that someone bought IP (for dirt cheap) and do what Rockstar did with Red Dead Revolver ---> Red Dead Redemption. Flaws in Alpha Protocol combat mechanics, graphics, AI, level / encounter design are so big that it's unlikely that most developers in Obsidian didn't see 'em. There have to be someone from higher up in company ladder shooting down most of the improvement solutions. It don't help if some jr designer has the best idea in the world if it can't be sold to the higher ups or to the publisher. -
Many of the EU game reviewers are old PC gamers from the era when you had to manually edit config.sys and autoexec.bat just to play the games. So they do have high tolerance for the design issues, as well as bugs. They do notice 'em, but don't drop score as much as in the new country.
