  2. lol I wonder what's the funny part? Did I miss some obvious solution (very hard / hardcore) ? I didn't put any points on speech or barter. Ceasar was dead (I chose "do Ceasar still give you orders from beyond the grave") and battle couldn't be avoided. I'm buffeded with med-x, slasher, psycho and wear light armor (whole game in light armor to make sneaking optimal). Boss does power attack and I fall down (getting up takes long time and this was the only encounter where I'd hit the dirt). At this point there's at least 3-5 adds (tough legionares). Boss moves much faster then my Agi 5 character. And has huge amount of health. In hardcore mode health items ain't instant. That's not even the main problem as I could survive rather long time but my companions would die and at some point and then boss would stunlock me with the help of his numerous adds. If you manage to keep distance to boss, it starts to throw granades. Thankfully my character resist 'em rather good, thanks to certain perk but explosions can still throw you around.
  3. It can be hard, at least for certain build and certain companions. For example my explosives / melee character was ripped apart one or two shot by pack of deathclaws. With Boone it was ok as he usually killed one before they reach me and I probably could knock other 2 down. When I tired same with Cass, only way I could survive was to lure 'em one at the time or make huge minefield. I went for full NCR route so final battle was stupidly difficult. I had to mine the bosses pathway + his retreat location. Obviously a metagame solution for the problem but didn't want to load several hours old save, so I could resupply more efficently for the final battle. Oh yeah, and I wanted to keep companions alive. Basically Ceasars tent full of mobs, deathclaw packs, "Legendary" deathclaw, NCR route final boss, huge packs of those flying bugs (when cass in group) were the difficult battles in the game... and that small room with 3 ceasars elites before the "House always Wins part 2" location. Some of those encounter only happen if you choose certain pathway for the final quest so they are at least in theory optional (and some can be solved with high enough speech).
  4. Yes, leveling speed is bit too fast but I think it's hard to balance in game where main quest can be done really fast. Then again, if you choose to do side quests and generally just explore around, levels go by before you even notice it. Same with gathering money. During my first run when I finally found my way to Vegas, I had over 50k caps and other 25k in various zero weight valuables (with zero points put into barter). Then quests in Freeside suggest that it's somewhat difficult to get into the heart of the city (yeah, that 1k caps sure is hard to come by... maybe at level 1 ). Rewards are pocket change in Freeside. I wonder if developers at some point meant Freeside to be the newbie area and only later on chose it to be Goodsprings. Freeside really feel like it's balanced for levels 1-5 (not including speech / barter checks).
  5. My first run was with explosives/ melee weapons specialist. Missiles, granade rifles and such were basically useless because all the more difficult mobs had unreal movement speed. Dynamites were useful at low levels because they one shot mobs but that power didn't scale well in later levels and with more powerful explosives. I had all the perks that would increase explosives damage but still usually it was better just melee mobs while letting Boone to do ranged damage. Bottlecap mines and C4 were still useful, but C4 was was too pricey for common mobs (1,4k caps per kill - ok, in late game money wasn't the issue but without metagaming I didn't know that) and limited supply and reseources for bottlecap mines were extremely difficult to find. I think I only found about 15 cherrybombs and those were only enough for 3 bottlecap mines. Holy hand granade (no bunny to be seen ) was good, but only found 3 of those as well.
  6. Been playing Fallout New Vegas. I don't often say about this nowadays but this game is freaking massive. Steam has clocked something like 80 hours and I think I'm level 24 or something. I crash about once a hour and I've lost 3 quicksaves so far (I do about 1 non-quicksave per hour so that's 3 hours lost on total advancement) because of repeating crashes, bugs or otherwise weird behaviour. Weirdest happend tonight - I turn in quest in NCR HQ and save... only to notice that in that same instant all NCR NPCs start to attack Ed-I, while neither my player character nor Boone is red. Once NPCs destroy my robot, they all go back to normal.
  7. My character Conservative, loves to read about the pre war era days. Has way too idealistic view of the patriotism and doesn't really understand the cause and effect connection and the reasons that lead to the post nuclear world. His work as courier made him sneaky and because weapons and ammo were often too pricey or too hard to find, he learnt how to use melee weapons. In his younger day he worked in civil engineering, blowing away obstacles with dynamite or with some jury rigged explosives. Long days and heavy lifting made him extremely strong and he has managed (so far) to avoid any serious injuries (except that nasty extra hole in the head). He's been basically healthy all his life. Now much hair left and his saggy / rugged features mke people naturally avoid him and he probably need to pay extra even to the prostitutes. Most likely to align himself with the New California Republic. Str 8 Per 7 End 7 Cha 3 Int 6 Agi 4 Luc 5 + Wild Wasteland
  8. Managed to play this far without crashing or freezing. Then I tried VATS (because dynamite throw is more accurate that way) and what do you know, it crashed just like it did in original Fallout 3. Oh how I loathe Gamebryo engine and all it's legacy issues. Other then that crash and game being fugly as hell, it's been a good times. I'm not a fan of the hard caps on skill checks (but that's been discussed already to the death) but at least skill books help a bit.
  9. Suprisingly finnish post was efficent today and I got my game. Damn manuals are pitiful these days, no skill / perk descriptions at all.
  10. Calax is right, PC gaming is dead or 5 feet inside the grave. We do get console ports (meaning no advanced graphical features of the modern PCs, game features or game mechanics are not designed from ground up for mouse + keyboard, UIs are mess, no or very little multicore support, limtations of the consoles 512mb memery ect ect) but very few exclusive PC titles like Starcraft 2. Indy scene is booming (profitable, but only tiny fraction of the all console game sales), but AAA quality games are dead. It's great if you can enjoy games like Minecraft that look like it's from 1995 but personally I've noticed that graphical features are important for me. Not that every console game (or port for the PC) is bad or something, it's just not PC game. Xbox spend 6 billion dollars trying to destroy PC gaming and they were rather successful. I would have rather like to see 'em spend that kind of money to support PC gaming but I guess it's up for Valve to collect the profit (of the few PC exclusives, Ports and indies) while MS Xbox division continue to lose truck loads of money. Just now they are spending 500 million dollars to promote Kinetic
  11. It's shame that Xbox360 version got leaked. I think I'll have to avoid messageboard for about week (or maybe more then a week as EU release date is 22th friday and something always delay the post.. proably till next monday).
  12. Not much. But game already has my money because it's 9-10 KotORs worth of content. I played WoW from 1 to 60 basically solo and I loved every minute of it. Later on I joined guilds, started rading and loved it too. I don't care if some of the features KotOR Online suck, as long as it's not complitely horrible (meaning from game mechanics to storylines, to group content to writing). I really disliked combat mechanics in KotOR and KotOR 2 and how unbalanced (and easy) those games were, but other features were so great that in the end games were worth their price and several complite runs. I expected same to happen with KotOR Online and monthy fee don't bother me at all untill all the content is used up. Then I just quit (just like in WoW).

They have created the product and if you want to change something, risk of being banned or find a way to play offline. Personally I dislike all cheating in games.
  14. Bioware said that KotOR Online would have something like 9-10 KotORs worth of content so it's about 30 miilion per "episode". Certainly a lot of money, but definately not huge budget per episode nowadays. Obviously 300 million would be most expensive computer game ever and it has a huge bomba probability. They try to go after WoW kinda cash and none other then WoW has so far been successful in that. On topic of Mythic that guy is full of crap. EA nor Bioware had anything to do with Warhammer Online sucking. It was Mark Jacobs and his posse that just didn't know how to reach the modern MMOG segment and their creative compass was almost always pointing to magnetic "wrong". Massive ad campaign wouldn't have done anything good as game was very front loaded and almost million players tried it. And game just wasn't good enough to keep 'em. Mythic got what they deserved.
  15. Damn that's freaky looking stare. Reminds me of late 90's 3d poser model amatour animations. Combat is now close to something like in God of War series so Bioware better prepare to take the heat if combat ain't as good in that game... or looking as good.
  16. Might as well give first rule system critique. Long Haul Required Character Level: 12 Required Attributes/Skills: Endurance 6, Barter 70 You have learned how to pack mountains of gear for the long haul. Being over-encumbered no longer prevents you from using fast travel. This perk is like custom made for players like me who steal anything and everything. Unfortunately it also means that we get a lot of cash (as well as all the items we could ever need) so barter skill requirement is complitely counter productive. High barter is useful when you barely loot anything and thus benefit the most when you need to buy or sell something. In last Fallout 3 run I had probably over 200 stims, well over 100 all meds and chems and every vendor that I met cleared of all cash. I think I was around level 10 or something and didn't put any points on barter. Fallout New Vegas might be bit more stingy but it's definately rare to see CRPG with enough useful monet sinks.
  17. It just wouldn't be Obsidian game without the bugs Anyway, I just uninstalled Fallout 3 and it's still a buggy mess. Once again I crashed into desktop when I used VATS (just one example of the numerious bugs). I fully expected to crash as much in Fallot New Vegas too, but at least I get fresh content. Damn I hate Gamebryo engine
  18. Poll needs Chaotic Stupid
  19. Somehow this game is totally unknown to me and back in 90's I bought (or tried the demo if available) most of the FPS. Cool, you learn new things every day. /goes check game info Aha, released nov 1999 in US and apr 2000 in UK and rest of europe. I was spending too much time in Asheron's Call (also released in nov 1999) so I complitely managed to miss this game. Oh well, live and learn.
  20. I disagree. Halo gave us vehicle combat in FPS and rechargeable health (or shields). We have to remember that Halo project was first PC game, untill Microsoft bought 'em for Xbox. I was looking forward of Halo (for PC exclusive), but none expected it to be revolutionary and it wasn't. I agree from console perspective as FPS really sucked before Halo. Personally I think in 2001 both Aliens vs. Predator 2 and Operation Flashpoint were better FPS then Halo. -edit- And Return to Castle Wolfenstein of course.
  21. Just finished watching the whole GSL Open tournament. Damn fine matches in all tiers and it was great that . I'll definately watch the next season too. I definately recommened to see at least final matches and quater finals and semi finals are worth it too.
  22. Yeah, Steam prices still suck on new games. Cheapest option for Fallout New Vegas in Finland is 38
  23. I played WoW for about 4 years and loved just about every minute of it. All the raids, all the wipes... good times. But there's time for everything and my quota for Warcraft (and just about all other MMOGs as they still haven't reached the quality of the WoW) is full and then some. Game is great but I have zero desire to buy Cataclysm or otherwise renew my subscription. KotOR Online will be my next MMOG, but I still don't know if I play it pure solo as I would any other singleplayer game, or choose to join my old guild and play some group content.
  24. Of course you ain't but I think everyone already know that Gamebryo engine is POS and there's no way to make it look good. Obsidian can talk art direction all day but that don't change the fact that game will look fugly no matter what. But still, first day buy
  25. Hopefully. The sooner the game industry moves to direct downloads only, the better. Maybe sell ultra expensive collector editions from publisher / developers own web store. Sony will probably stay with their blue ray format at least one console generation longer (meaning up to 2020-2025) but MicroSoft might move to direct downloads only with their next console (if it's out by 2014 or later). They'll probably make exclusive deals with ISPs, especially in US (and similar places) since otherwise draconian downloads caps will become bottleneck. With Steam and other DD services, I'm basically moved away from boxed games complitely (on PC obviously). Unlimited bandwidth, relatively cheap prices and fast connections make sure that in Finland specialist retailers days are numbered.
