My point is a simple one. A company of developers that produce an excellent game that sells really well surly would also want some kind of financial incentive outside there salaries. These generally include bonuses, end of the day this would come from the Net Profit that PE makes from sales, not the development costs that KS raised. Also if you take the owners of Obsidian isn't it logical that they would want to maybe improve there quality of life from the profit made from the sales of PE? This could include points like buying better cars, paying off there home loans, sending there kids to better schools etc So the sales of PE are relevant to whether people think KS is a viable funding model for games and if end of the day it makes personal financial sense to the people involved in the project . KS is not just about a game being released without Publishers, it has to also be about the companies making money through sales. I can't think why anyone would want to do it without that consideration?

Replace capitalism with any system and that statement woudl stil be true. So many systems sound good on paper. Do you have a viable alternative economic system? The Boer war... capitalism in action, how dare those peasants be in the way of our free market I see your point and I am not suggesting that Capitalism is perfect. But I still maintain it works. For me the ideal system is probably a hybrid economic system between Socialism and Capitalism. So for example corporations are responsible for growing the economy and reinvesting money back into there own business but governments have the legal ability to intervene in the actions of big business if there decisions are harmful to the countries growth. So goverments can stop companies shipping jobs overseas and they can so no to payments of obscene bonuses. But we do live in a global world with free markets so this is harder to implement than it seems. I just believe the business of any government should be to govern and not interfere too much in the affairs of the private industry

And Canada's resident Minister of Buffoonery John Baird vowed there would be consequences, because how dare the UN abandon the method of achieving peace in the middle east that they have been employing for the last 65 years? Maybe because its not working? *sigh* Maybe those 3.000 new homes for Haredi on the West Bank (just for starters) is what people who were opposed to this was referring to. Israel has to react to this unilateral move. Bibi has to look strong, especially after he caved in on a cease fire where most of the Israelis wanted a new Cast Lead and got nothing but crap in return for doing so. So. New settlements, and other "measures" that will ensure more rockets from Hamas, Fatah trying to apply pressure unilaterally, a palestinian population that is increasingly hawkish, an Israeli population that is ditto, and nobody who has power to do **** all except escalate the situation. Grats. More strife in the mideast for the chance of rubbing your nipples with morals and ethics that noone in the mid east respects anyway. . Thats a powerful and evocative post, nice one

To be honest I have no issue with DRM, I always buy my games so I can't recall a time where a form of DRM effected my gaming experience? I am supportive of any measures to reduce pirating.

I must be misunderstanding you, are you saying that you don't think that Obsidian would want to or need to generate revenue through sales of PE? If you are I completely disagree with you, the profit from sales does go into keeping a company stable but any company would also want to make money from the years spent on the game, they would want to improve there quality of life and become individually wealthier. Like almost everyone who works aspires to become. I can guarantee you if PE sells badly, which I believe is almost impossible, Obsidian won't make another one. And frankly you can't blame because where is the financial incentive for there years of hard work on the project? Finally pirating is a negative influence on the sales and development on PC gaming, it is a scourge and we should be opposed to it under any circumstances

More importantly there is nothing wrong with Capitalism. It has uplifted more people than any other economic system, one accepted definition is "An economic system in which the means of production and distribution are privately or corporately owned and development is proportionate to the accumulation and reinvestment of profits gained in a free market" What has happened globally in the world in the last few years is not the failure of Capitalism but the implementation and interpretation of it in some cases and the personal greed of certain corporations .

I think it may be politically controversial ?

Then it looks like I will be checking out BGEE. Same as me, the points you made earlier are exactly the reasons I'll be buying it

This was the point I was going to make, its subjective. I think a Hamburger needs to have at least cheese and onions on it. You probably think its something different Well, the one I used to get 30+ years ago had only the basics, beef patty in a bun, beetroot, ketchup, remoulade (danish relish specialty), mustard, onion and pickled cucumber. Nice and simple condiments there

It's not honoring a classic if you french it up all snooty-like. This is hamburgers for the 1%. And the French. Why what do you consider is the classic hamburger?

I purchased my Controller yesterday. I got a Microsoft Xbox Controller, so I'll be using it now with Sleeping Dogs

This also raises another point, the role of Publishers. I have always maintained that Publishers aren't all bad and in many respects add value and do understand the business aspect of gaming development. So some of the challenges we now see on certain KS projects is due to the developers not having the guiding influence of a Publisher

I have an extra copy of Left 4 Dead 1 for whoever wants it

Yes its always good to keep your driver updated. There is a school of thought that believes "if its not broken don't fix it " but I keep all my drivers on my gaming PC updated
-
I was about to post the same link I find this article interesting and relevant. Its disingenuous that developers don't keep to release dates or don't inform fans who funded the games

I played many excellent games this year, like Alpha Protocol, but they weren't released in 2012. So my list is Risen 2 : I love RPG, what can I say. Max Payne 3: It was an enjoyable shooter Legend of Grimrock :Old school RPG

Nooooooooooooo, now we aren't on the same side anymore. That makes me sad Come join the "removing cinematics isn't a big deal" army and we can be good friends again
-
Thats not why I commented, your post is pertient to the discussion I am having on this thread.

Because not all gamers have the same interests as Morgoth. Seriously, it's an absurd statement and your defense of it is equally absurd. Someone bought it because they'd rather play it first hand than watch a Youtube video of it. If they wanted to just watch the content, they would have. Cool story bro. ME3 + DLC is still a waste of time. Morgoth I can't agree with the statement that ME3 is a waste of time. It was entertaining, it wasn't fantastic. But to say the game is not worth playing is a bit harsh

So that's 12 cinematics from the original BG that they've removed and will not replace with something new. Well then this reiterates for me that the number of movies removed isn't really a big deal? Thanks for the post
