Indeed, being mentioned in Project Eternity's lore would be great for the Order. Anything else would be much complicated with so many members.

This reminds me of Fallout and its 150 days limit. Having a mix of "Take your time" quests and "Tic tac tic tac" quests would be great in Project Eternity, but I'm not sure a dedicated mode would be much praised. Maybe Obsidian will use "the restless forces that follow and haunt [us] wherever [we] go" to create a similar dynamic without setting a specific countdown. Anyway, the time frame mention makes me wonder if there will be a particular time management in Project Eternity or if the good old 24hours / 7days / 12months / 4seasons will still be used as graduations...

Besides the new race, best thing with this update is the "Make your own mode" part. "the ability to turn many of their sub-features on and off on an individual level in an ordinary game" is a very smart feature imo.

The Obsidian Order takes initiative
Archon replied to Alper's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think the Order's membership is based on a Honor system, like Kicking It Forward. You can't ask people to justify the $8 upgrade for now, just believe they've done it. -

I was shocked when Wikia banned you last year. Anyway, glad to see you on Project Eternity and Wasteland 2 wikis Ausir . -
are polls useful to obsidian?
Archon replied to vattghern's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I wish they do but reading forums is sooooooo time-consuming. Nobody can read everything, even the team of moderators must find it hard since Kickstarter launched. An universal option "Other" with a comment solve this problem. But then you end up with a standard thread and a useless poll :D -
I will begin praying immediately*bows head in silent prayer* Yes, my test dummy brother, the order shall grow if we put our faith, and pledge money, in Obsidian. "Pledging money" being the most important part. ... wait ... Are we part of a Sect ?! Edit : wow, titles are already there. That was quick !

are polls useful to obsidian?
Archon replied to vattghern's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Great idea to set a poll about the polls :D Polls are great because sometimes they hint the existence of a silent majority. Have a bunch of people debate on an idea, set a poll after they're going in a direction and watch the votes refelecting the opposite. It's somehow fascinating. -
Number of available companions
Archon replied to Mathusss's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Having 1 companion per class is just speculation and we don't know much about classes yet but a solution would be to allow respec of companions. Which implies that their personality would'nt be tied to a specific class even if they come with a "default" one. So anyone could become that archer/mage/fighter we'd need and 8 would be sufficient. -
Number of available companions
Archon replied to Mathusss's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This. Exactly this. If companions "are highly reactive to the player's actions" they should even refuse to join the party depending on the PC's reputation. Or flee with all the gold in the middle of the night. Or turn against former allies in certain circonstances. But it seems difficult with only 8 companions. Players could end with 3 refusing to join, 2 trying to kill them and a party limited to 4. ( which could offer great replayability ). -
My only fear in this is that with so few companions, it will end up akin to Bioware's "catch-em-all" BFF-collection "parties", with very little true choice in the way your party plays out or is shaped. This is doubly true if you "just happen" to get one of every class - something that by itself stifles replayability, but is also such a trope, as if you're making them for the sake of making them, rather than to have interesting, fitting characters. Mechanically fitting or appropriate choices is in no way mutually exclusive to good storytelling, but it is just so incredibly boring to see "The Ranger", "The Warrior", "The Mage", rather than characters developed for their own sake. Is there no chance that we'll be seeing more companions than there are classes, or more relevant class-options than there are companions assigned to their roles? I was so very, very, very much hoping that we'd be able to get away from the ever-shrinking party options of modern RPGs. I want to do themed parties again. Bleh. I know exactly what you mean but I don't think that's what he meant. Given the games this is styled after, it's likely that while your part will be 6 adventurers, that 6 will be comprised of a selection from a larger cast, forcing you to choose which characters join you. My hope is that it won't be like NWN2 and DA:O where even if you do not have a character in your party they still count as being in your group. No, the main games has exactly 5 potential companions. It then grows with every added class: http://www.kickstart...-eternity/posts Well. 6 classes and 6 companions, now. But still. Indeed. Having 1 companion per class is also my main concern at the moment. If we don't "like" a companion personality but have good use of his/her class / talents in our party, no way to fire/kill him/her because there's no one else with this class. But having the 3 traditional Fantasy races with 2 new ones looks like a good compromise. Especially with subraces.

[Merged] DRM Discussion Thread
Archon replied to Arundor's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This project is. Indeed. Obsidian using Kickstarter sounds "indie" to me. But what matters is if GOG.com will "handle" this game as indie or not. No matter what, GOG.com only have PC DRM-free. No Mac and/or Linux. The best way to distribute all DRM-free versions would be with Obsidian's own store. -
[Merged] DRM Discussion Thread
Archon replied to Arundor's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Indeed, that would be great. But for now GOG.com have set a price limit at $20 for indie games. Project Eternity will be $25 so not on GOG unless there's some changes on their price policy before 2014. -
Obsidian has a Kickstarter profile
Archon replied to C2B's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think people are ready for another big(million plus) KickStarter again. It's been 6 months since the big ones, the fans wallets have respawned currency(well, hopefully), and Obsidian is a pretty well respected developer among the RPG niche. Actually OUYA raised $8,596,474 on Aug 09. Then Reaper Miniatures Bones got $3,429,235 on Aug 26. And if you focus on videogame "literally", Planetary Annihilation, which ends tommorow, already have $1,874,740 and Homestuck Adventure Game have $1,197,261 and still 21 days to go. There's still big project on KS. Let's see if another RPG can beat the Wasteland 2 record... -
I've been lurking around for months... But today i want to thank you all for the news provided through this forum, especially funcroc. Keep up the good work
