Metal Gear Rising. Maybe I got a bit caught up in the hype but the end result is a little disappointing. It certainly can deliver some great moments but the sheer amount of flaws in gameplay design mar the whole experience.

I was never fond of steam ever since the beta wouldn't allow separate install locations. And that unlisted ~20% tax on my first steam store purchase didn't help the matters none. So if other publishers want to follow in Valves shoes and make their games exclusive to proprietary distribution platforms I'm fine with it.

Used games block on PS4 a publisher decision. Shocking.
-
In production values and nostalgia perhaps. RTS genre didn't see any real innovation since Sins of the Solar Empire and that game was essentially an oddity. They are being replaced by MOBAs because they refused to change their fundamental gameplay away from boxing stutter stepping and base building. Even the reign of Starcraft won't last much longer judging by the speed with which it's spectator audience leaves.

All that was really said that some used games will work on PS4. I doubt anybody at this time will make a definitive statement when it comes to reselling or DRM. MS/Sony must be eying each other hoping to see how much they can get away with without ending-up as the bad guy. Besides I'm sure nobody will announce their console having restrictions as such. Everything will simply be an 'option' available for use by publishers/developers. This will allow manufacturers to shift the blame onto someone else and hopefully dodge the backlash. And if such 'options' become commonplace MS/Sony will simply feign innocence pretending they cannot set requirements for games running on their own platforms.

Thanks for the summary. I tried watching but snoozed off at the 'social' talk. Doesn't seem like they announced anything particularly interesting.

It's not NK ability to hit US that is at stake here. It's their ability to hit 10 million people in Seoul. And nukes could make quite a bit of difference in that.

Uncle Feargus talks working on Fallout again
pmp10 replied to WorstUsernameEver's topic in Obsidian General
We really know too little to say that Obsidian is in trouble but what's surprising is that New Vegas 2 pitch is happening right now. There is no way Bethesda will outsource another spin-off until Fallout 4 is done with DLCs somewhere around 2015. -
So the control scheme was different because the game was no longer point and click except the only thing that made it no longer point and click was the different control scheme. Got it. DS3 was the definition of a Diablo clone; changing the control scheme didn't suddenly turn it into a brand new genre. What you (and everyone else who's saying 'just use a controller') are basically saying is that a port of a game in a genre that is predominantly PC based that's impossible to play without a controller because the developer didn't bother to implement a proper m/kb control scheme is just fine. I suppose that's a reasonable attitude to have, but to me that screams of lazy development just as much as a buggy as **** release does. We'll see how Obsidian does with P:E once it no longer has the "blame the publisher" crutch to explain away all the **** that's wrong with its games. So if the DS3 and Diablo are the same tell me - how much active dodging you did in Diablo? Because I seem to recall doing it a lot in the former. The latter was all about drinking potions and thank god DS3 didn't fall into that trap. And no controller isn't necessary - M&K controls are perfectly serviceable for an isometric action game.
-
They took a genre that started on the PC and has had the same control scheme for 15 years and made it unplayable without a controller. I can get requiring a controller for the PC version of Devil May Cry or something, but for a point and click aRPG? That's about as lazy a port job as you can get. From a PC perspective DS3 was Obsidian's worst offering yet. You're a sissy. And the patch made it better. The patch was a joke and did nothing to fix the underlying issue of the control scheme being awful; it just let you rebind the awfulness to different buttons. Actually for a PC the control scheme was pretty good it's just the game was no longer 'point and click' or a Diablo clone which apparently shocked and appalled people to the point of denial. BTW: DMC plays better on a keyboard.

I want to play Dark Souls as I consider myself a RPG aficionado and I believe you can't call yourself an aficionado unless you embrace all aspects of a topic. The thing is I don't like repetition of levels or getting killed too much, so by its nature Dark Souls might not be for me. Yet many people do love it, so I faced with a conundrum. Do I play Dark Souls ? Dark Souls is a bit more action game than RPG (being able to dodge and block effectively is the biggest factor in success or failure,) but the RPG elements are a huge factor nevertheless. Levelling is more of an art than a given (you can overlevel for a particular area and thus have a very difficult time summoning co-op players to help with bosses,) and upgrading equipment is just as much a factor as level (there's technically no level cap, but every attribute tops out at 99, and each level is one point, so the max level for every class is over 700,) anyway, if you don't like extremely difficult games, you probably wouldn't like it, but all that said, you really have to try it to be sure. It's an intensely deep and complex game in terms of design and mechanics, and there's surprisingly deep and interesting lore, especially for a JRPG (admittedly, one aimed at western audiences, but popular in Japan nonetheless.) And technically speaking, there aren't levels. It's sort of open-world in that the whole of Lordran, the game's setting, is a huge continuous complex and there are few barriers to entry into areas that might be far above your level. There are also a lot of hidden, easter-eggish prizes the developers left for stubborn, bold or just plain odd players, like the Drake Sword and Astora's Longsword. As an aside, I wish I'd had it before armor threads (that is, arguments,) about P:E started, because the armor/costume design and the design aesthetics in Dark Souls are outstanding. Even though the boss/enemy armors can be a bit over the top, none of it is WoW-looking. Lord's Blade Ciaran's armor is among the best female armor design I've ever seen in a game. It's unfortunate that the only available official concept art is a poorly-shot photo of an artbook page. Also, Invaders are OP BS. I've gotten to the point where I just use the Playstation button to quit if I get invaded far from a bonfire. Otherwise, stock up on Indictments and hope the Blades of the Darkmoon are doing their job. Thanks for the detailed perpective, when I am ready to play Dark Souls I'll ask for tips from you guys. I don't want "cheat" information as I do enjoy exploring and learning about how the game is designed but just things that will mean I'll won't be playing for 40 hours to realise I have chose the wrong class and have to start from the beginning. Pick pyromancer or at least stay away from hunter (and dex based classes in general). Read and watch all the FAQs/walk-troughs and guides you can find. Engage multiplayer only for boss assistance.

Free2play players have no posting privileges. And that support form returns automated responses. If this is anything like my activation issue then to have any hope of getting things fixed you need to phone support and hope you won't need forwarding to level 2.

Essentially it would be the trio of Magic Candle / Blade of Destiny / Betrayal at Krondor. No wonder I have issues with party systems and lack of traveling in modern RPG games.
-
Yeah, it should make the life of Piraters very hard This will only work if PS4 dose the same. PS3 being more secure than Xbox360 did little for Sony when majority of games worked on the latter.
-
Apparently RTS games are dying. Unsurprising when you refuse to evolve.
-
So after 2 story driven games they want to go open world? Not sure if I like that idea.
-
Second expansion to Victoria II announced. If only the gameplay could live-up to the setting.
-
That's the whole misconception - the question is not a better but equal experience. Dead Space has been infamous for it's poor port quality and especially it's controls. Any bad PC port that dose not allow turning-off mouse acceleration is roughly equivalent to no 'invert axis' option on a console game. Mouse and keyboard are still the preferred input method for a PC and if you are not going to account for that then you should not talk about experience being 'equal' to consoles.
-
The problem are not extra extra "bells and whistles" but features that should come as an absolute standard. If you refuse to put in a basic FoV setting so that player don't get physically sick while playing your game then you deserve to be called out on it.
-
Realms of Arkania trilogy to get a remake. Not that I wouldn't love it but can't see it working given modern RPG standards.
-
That came completely out of the blue. Volition and Saints Row were the biggest names THQ had to offer and they have gone to a euro publisher. Because it won't come free. I have no idea what sega plans to do but they are already playing with fire with two PC-centric studios that failed their console transition.
-
No way there's gonna be mass layoffs. Relic is super busy with CoH2 and DoW3, Sega would be stupid to castrate such a cash cow. Since WH40k is a separate license I doubt that Dawn of War 3 will ever see the light of day.
-
That's most likely a troll. No reason someone wouldn't bid at all even if just to liquidate the studio.
-
Devil may cry. It could be quite a good title if taken in isolation but as a part of the DMC series it's clearly not on the same level as two previous games. I'm not sure what was the purpose of the reboot as most changes made haven't really helped at all. Only level design has seen noticeable improvement but that's no recompense for terribly disappointing boss-fights.

Pretty much, i hope that France gets the balls for a total annihalation of those barbarians. Or rather capture each one of them and force them to slave labour and restore every single artifact while being forced to listen to Slayer - "Reign in Blood" in every waking hour. **** them and **** every piece of **** that support them. Luckily enough, i am not the one calling the shots here. Destroying cultural heritage really rubs me the wrong way. You know - us westerners are not really it position to call others Barbarians over such practices. There has been plenty of destroying cultural heritage throughout our history. Don't be an imbecile. That line of thought only dwells into a pointless "sins of our fathers"-scenario with no return. Of course we are in a position to call them for what they are, no matter religion they claim to follow: thuggish, backwater barbarians who are so culturally retarded that they have forbidden music entirely. Actually you don't need to get into 'sins of our fathers' to see clash of cultures. I'm sure the issues of women in Afghanistan is already a major point of contention today.
