I never got why a rogue would go in alone, maybe slightly ahead if they are a greater stealthier (though in Pillars other characters can be just as good at it if they put the points in). You'd want your back up in range if it goes **** up, and an adventuring party really does make sense more if you treat them like a medieval special ops team: they all ninj in, then a couple keeps watch while another picks the lock. Stealth helps a whole party to get into position before they unleash their attacks. Sending someone into a dangerous place alone never really made much sense to me.

Sorry popped away for the weekend for friends' wedding, yeah I didn't include Barbarian on there as I already have an idea for a Fire Godlike Barbarian I want to play, though it's good to know they do synergise well (I didn't actually choose them for that, just for the image of a burning barbarian running amok heh). I'm currently leaning towards Paladin at the mo but the suggestions on both sides are quite intriguing, mainly thinking Paladin because I can see with the bonus to deflection from dispositions it would be easier to make a offensive paladin without losing too much from defense in doing so.

Refreshing Story
FlintlockJazz replied to Raimon777's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I believe the difference that allowed your character to uncover the truth is the past life you shared with Thaos. It put you on the path to finding out what Thaos was actually doing whereas other Watchers like Maerwald probably focused more on having lived two lives on opposite sides of a war that they pretty much caused and so were a little... distracted. -
Take everything as my own personal opinion, people vary a lot in how they perceive the characters. Eder is kinda like the bro for me, he's not loud and brash but rather demure despite being a fighter but is also quite funny and witty. Aloth is the bro wizard, pretty posh and hoighty toighty but.... well I don't want to spoil it for you. Kana is like the enthusiastic kid, except he's 7 foot tall. Very good natured. Durance is... he's a deranged madman who refers to his goddess as a whore. Think that should cover it. Sagani is friendly, but she's married with kids so keep your hands to yourself! Gets on well with Eder, who has a hankering for her fox. Grieving Mother is strange, and very aloof. Pallegina is a Paladin in an order that appears to disdain failure, polite but fierce. She won't be the sort to comfort you but will have your back. Hiravias is... he's good natured and friendly but he is also coarse and even more foul-mouthed than Durance, and is quite the pervert. He's like the little dog that tries humping your leg. Hope this helps. No character will really turn on each other, as there wasn't really enough to allow the player to risk losing one permanently I think was the thought behind it, but I have noticed that certain characters seem to talk more often to each other. Eder, Sagani, Aloth, and Pallegina seem to have the most banters that I have noted but then I haven't been counting or checking really.

As I said, if it wasn't for the Moon symbol I'd probably like them a lot more, it just throws me for some reason. Aumaua is a race I'd like to play but just don't seem to have gotten round to, though I much prefer Orlans because, well, I love the deranged little mad balls of fur! :D An Aumaua called Samson does sound very... appropriate. I really like Orlan as well. I prefer Wild Orlans they just look nuts! Lol I agree...A huge guy historically (not trying to get religious here just in the book he was a massive dude) and an American Football Offensive Lineman! makes sense! He is Samoan same flavor as the Amaua and they have my favorite teams colors..it Just kind of fell together lmao. He is a Kind Wayfarer (my first Wayfarer run through). Its cool going back to the old school good guy Paladin. That reminds me, I'd need to pick between Kind Wayfarers and Darcozzi Paladini if I went Paladin. Darcozzi would be different but I would also feel obligated to go Old Vailian then since in my head it wouldn't make sense for someone else to join them, and Wayfarer just appeals to me. I normally prefer Hearth Orlans because they look more hobbity and I do have a thing for hobbits (oh god, I just realised, with my preference to play wizards too I am essentially that hobbit-fancier Gandalf ), but a female Wild Orlan Monk needs to be done! Furry ball of teeth and claws!

*Gulp* Yes Mr Torm sir, whatever you want. Never tried Silvertide because while I do like the concept of Moon Godlikes and their glowy hair, that giant moon symbol on their heads put me right off, and as we all know what's the point of killing things if you can't look good while doing so. So yeah, nerf away on that, I won't notice it until the silly head thing is gone!

Yeah that's what I suspected with the Rogue, so it is really between the Fighter and Paladin for me I guess (hey, one down!). I was thinking Damage fighter, and they seem to be more possible to do than a Damage Paladin, unless people have a different experience? Barbarian I'm saving for another character otherwise I would definitely consider it. And you do have me tempted now to do a Goat Boy...

It's where the go'auld are going to teleport down. -
Decided that I want to go Nature Godlike because raisons. Can't decide on whether to go Fighter or Rogue for it, and every now and again Paladin keeps slipping in there. I'm not interested in which is the bestest class or which one sucks the gibbon, but rather whether the racial works well for them or not. Seems like an odd reason to base your class choice on but I got other character ideas that I want to do and which of them I do depends on what I play this time round (don't want to play the same class multiple times, so if I go rogue with this class for instance that means neither my Orlan or my Dwarf characters I been thinking up will be a rogue). So, choices people! Help me choose and prevent me from weeks of angst! Help me Obsidian Forums you're my only hope! (****, I'm screwed then!)

I agree with pi2repsion (mmmm pie... *drools* ) and he puts what I'm thinking into words that I struggle with. I shall appoint him my official Wizard-speaker! Seriously though, I agree totally with pi2repsion. I think if low level spells were not per encounter at higher levels then you risk parties with wizards to wind up actually resting more and more as the wizard levels up, so the more 'powerful' the wizard becomes the more he ends up having to rest, which kinda feels opposite to what it should be, whereas currently you still seem to rest the same amount. On my current playthrough at level 7 (nearly level 8 ), the wizard and druid I have in the party (Aloth and Hiravias) both consistently run out of high level spells long before they run out of the lower level spells, and I often find that I spam the low level spells at that point to avoid 'wasting' them before resting.

Ah that's my problem here, how they pulled it off. It feels, I don't know, cliché. Not to mention the quests do not show overmuch originality (although if we're going to be honest, all your basic quests will always be kill/escort/deliver timesinks). Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've played Torment, Kingdoms of Amalur and Divinity Original Sin, all of which have a soul-based storyline, and I still believe PoE's vanilla story is 100% original. I'm sad that the expansion's isn't. Oh and by the way, on the topic of clichés and tropes. I believe Dragon Age Origins did an absolutely magnificent job at avoiding them. Yes you do have your classical dwarves and elves, but are they different than what you usually expect ! Shame they ruined the franchise with DA2 and DA3 I guess. Dragon Age Origins is Trope Central! The few things that aren't were stolen from somewhere else (elves being treated as scum being stolen wholesale from The Witcher books and game, Grey Wardens were a dumb version of the Night's Watch from A Song of Ice and Fire...) To be honest there is not a huge amount of original writing around. Neither Martin or Sapkowski are original either - they also copied freely from those who came before them. Oh I'm not saying they were, I'm just pointing out that DA Origins by no means avoided tropes or stealing ideas wholesale. Ironically, the Dragon Age game that most tried to break away from tropes and formulaic storyline of Bioware was Dragon Age 2... (at least in storyline department).

I'm happy with it as it is, maybe it might become an issue as more and more spell levels become per-encounter at higher levels but what we got at the moment doesn't seem an issue to me. At the level they become per-encounter they are not the spells I will decide to rest when I run out of them, it's when I run out of the high level spells that I will rest and I tend to run out them before I would run out of the low level ones anyway as keeping them per rest would just mean that I would refrain from bothering to cast them in most cases, and would make very little difference other than drawing out a battle slightly longer imho.

They's fine as is. I always said wizards were fine when people were claiming they were rubbish at the start and I still say they are fine. Favourite class in the game, and not because they are powerful but because they are fun and feel like a wizard, love the grimoire system really makes spellbooks feel important to me.

They'll be one of the options down the left hand side, where you can switch between buying stuff, hiring people, and staying at the inn.
