  1. Just nitpicking, but the current thread title is a little confusing. Because, well. It's kinda obvious there is *some real science* in Wasteland 2. Because, well. That's not really hard.
  2. This could be purely strategical for all we know. There's a lot of big games coming out at that point.
  3. I kinda wanted to search for the youtube video with the Square Enix betrayal *honor* guy and post it. But, I don't think the point is even needed.
  4. Reading your post again, it's not exactly as bad as I took it. So, I apologize. Still, what you stated goes against swiss literature in general (Ofc Suter for example does it differently, but that's not the point) Dürrenmatt did it over most of his work and his importance is. Well, you know that yourself (I hope).
  5. That's a wrong post. First off, nobody in switzerland says this. Secondly, it's an ignorant statemnt. Third, this statement doesn't represent swiss lit at all. Dürrenmatt is a number 1 priority in teaching lit in switzerland. He was a big advocator of the worst possible ending. Von Zahnd is exactly such a villian. (Reason: Zeitgeist (explained at several points, especially in regards to the physicists), and other factors, including giving contrast with the absurdity and paradox) Also, such villians are no indicator of bad writing itself depending on how they were written or justified and work in regardes to the themes/narrative. In modern literature, yes. But that's the result of various other factors.
  6. Ones I forgot
  7. Thanks to everyone that pointed them out. Again, current employees.
  8. Thanks to Funcroc's work in this thread I've compiled a list with all twitter accounts of (current) obsidian employee's I know. Please mention ones I forgot:
  9. As mentioned the spells aren't minor. There's lots of other things that are jrpg influenced. Of course, saying it's a *jrpg* is a joke, but it's a valid one. Avellone wasn't even the only one. As for other wrpgs that were strongly (even more actually) influenced from them is Anarchranox and Septerra Core. (All great games) Why do you even care? Does that somehow diminish Planescape's quality? I know jrpg's have a really bad reputation nowadays, but Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VI are on lots of developers list of games that influenced them greatly. (And for good reason)
  10. This makes absolutely no sense. Could you explain to me why you think Torment resembles a JRPG in any way? Even if the post was made in jest, there usually has to be some element of truth to the statement made. Uhm, actually. JRPG's were a major insperation for Avellone in creating Torment. The big, expansive *spell summons* for example were FFVII inspired. There's a lot of other (less obvious) things as well.
  11. Onyx (the engine) doesn't support Wii-U or 3DS at the moment. Maybe, if the game ends up successful there will be a port.
  12. http://www.gameranx....oject-eternity/
  13. I made a topic yesterday on it.
  14. I am a few hours late to this, so don't know if it has been posted yet. http://penny-arcade.com/report/editorial-article/obsidian Menze has been with Black Isle and Obsidian pretty much from the beginning and is currently Lead Artist on the south park rpg.
  15. It's already said it's going to be revised. The current map was something that was thrown together in a short amount of time.
  16. The Witcher 2 is bad for a direct comparison. The same game made in the US would have probably cost a lot more.
  17. But they are dying. Stamina abstracts exhaustion and health still means health. If your health is done you die. Sword in the chest, like you say. And there's no real magical opportuinities to regenerate health. Potentially making this system pretty managing. Including the permadeath option, well.....
  18. According to their tweets Chris Avellone is partying really hard with Bioware people when they meet at conventions.
  19. As mentioned, depends entirly on how successful Eternity will be. And if they don't get another project first.
  20. Meh....I'd rather not....he decided to go to a complete sellout company that only cared about money and screwing the fans. I say leave him....Obsidian can do amazing things without such people....and good riddance. What? First off, he's talking about Kevin Saunders (completly different guy). Secondly, how can you even say such a thing? Do you even know who Tony is. That's a horrible thing to say, dude. (Not to mention Tony was the Lead Designer of SOZ which basically is the opposite of what you describe)
  21. Off-Topic Josh Sawyer DID an interview as well (provided questions) with the Ars Magica devs on the rpg-codex http://www.rpgcodex.net/content.php?id=8561
  22. Kickstarter including some (Ex-) Obsidian devs http://www.kickstart...-world-of-gears Don't know if it's been posted yet.
  23. As Flouride says. This thread is actually about two layoffs. Once in April 2011 after New Vegas and the second (very big one) march this year due to a cancellation.
  24. They are actually at 98. That Linkedin number seems to work differently/wrong a lot of times. Just click on *See all* to see the actual number. Latest one was Bree coming back. Though the Linkedin number itself is probably not 100% correct for various reasons (employee not on linkedin/dead account/.....)
  25. Ha Long enough time to be laid off from Bioware and founding his own social game company. Also helps out on Wasteland 2.
