  1. So you do pirate sometimes?
  2. I dropped 1000 gp to make Copenhagen my ally but my capitol didn't love me for getting their silver until I built a road to them. I randomly plop down huge sums of money to city states clear across the world and they give me their resources all the time. These are landlocked civilizations long before they could possibly be building harbours.
  3. So if you had a choice, you'd rather let people continue to pirate software and stick it to the faceless, greedy corporation, than stop piracy? How small is that percentage actually too, btw?
  4. If you're going to pray for divine intervention, why wouldn't you just pray for God to smite down all those that pirate? Because then you wouldn't need to worry about DRM any more since no one would be pirating.
  5. Yep, pretty sure I addressed that in the sentence that immediately followed where your quote ended. Yeah I read that after. Which just makes it even more patently absurd that you even think about relating the game mechanics to how they should realistically be. The game mechanics in Alpha Protocol are, through and through, not realistic. And for the weapons, as you seem keen on admitting now, they "had to start somewhere." I think that for the purposes of their gameplay goals, the gunplay is unrealistic to the point where it is likely not reflective of someone that would be in the position that Thorton is in. EDIT: Zoraptor nails it again.
  6. Just to be clear: You get food from "Maritime" City-States. 1 in non-capital, 2 in capital (these numbers go up as you reach later eras). Cultured just gives you culture (only for the sake of getting policies), and militaristic gives you military units periodically. The bonuses they provide scale with era as stated, and they double when you reach allied status. An allied city state will fight with you in any wars you do (and will vote for you in elections as well). To get a City-State's resources, that city state must build the improvement, and you must be allied with them. The city itself need not be a part of your actual trade network. Enoch, did you have any policies/abilities that gave you a discount on upgrading your units? (like in the honor tree)
  7. The last two nights were "Civ V has kept me up too late" nights XD EDIT: I was playing with the Liberty tree. I like the bonuses that cities get from it. The quicker growth is nice to start as well. But +1 culture and +1 production just for the city as a passive I liked a lot, especially in the early game.
  8. You could always do a full install which stopped disc swapping IIRC.
  9. Fictionalized game mechanics are things like unlimited ammo or being able to unload a pistol clip into a guy 100 feet away and have every bullet be a head shot (with zero skill points invested in Pistols). What about a game that lets you immediately shoot multiple rounds from your pistol, allows you to literally go invisible and walk around without being seen, can let you run around really fast or anything of the sort? I agree that I feel the shooting complaints are overstated (including Oblarg's), but Alpha Protocol's game mechanics are not based upon reality. A lot of it is fantastic and extraordinary. I also believe that the shooting proficiency of Mike at the start of the game is similar to how I would do. As a game mechanic I didn't mind it, but I'd be skeptical if anyone that has small arms proficiency would require as much time as Mike does to accurately hit targets.
  10. Soooooooo much Civ5! Maybe too much lol.
  11. Yeah the Giant Death Robot is future tech. To be fair Calax, I did jump prematurely because I haven't gotten other techs yet myself. Just about to unlock coal.
  12. I like realism. But I like this combat system a ton more than the old stack of doom which was neither particularly interesting, nor realistic, that existed in the old games. Only if the unit requires a resource. Not all units require resources (thoughout all eras). Furthermore, it's still possible to acquire a large number of those resources (just looking around, there's several horse resources near where I am, and they all seem to have 2 or 4 of the resource).
  13. I'm not convinced it's just a publicity stunt. I don't think they are gone for good, but I do think they are restructuring how it is done. The twitter indicated that remaining DRM free is a complicated thing.
  14. I have a friend on the fence that I'm thinking about buying it for as well XD
  15. Same way real armies have it, several units in formation with firepower that jumps over the frontliners. The problem with that concept is each hex is, roughly, a few hundred square miles. Granted its been awhile since I was in the military but I am pretty sure I could fit a few divisions, comfortably, in that sized area. Look at WW2 and the European theater for example and how many divisions and brigades were in a very small area. If there were micro maps and each hex a few square miles then I can swallow this. But looking and the size of the hex in relation to the world map size I can't don't follow that logic nor find it very realistic. If stacking an infinite amount of units in the space and the rest of old Civ's combat mechanics is more realistic for you, then that's fine. All I care is that it's more fun, which it is. Played during lunch as the Germans. Saved to the Steam Cloud so it's there when I get home Gifted Venice and they're providing my empire with food. Currently building a settler to expand towards a a nice little spot on the sea. Friends with Washington and Catherine, and conspiring with the Russians against the Ottomans (per Catherine's request). Was sad that I felt guilty after a while for not working hahaha.
  16. Decrypted!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! STUPID WORK! >.<
  17. So excited so excited omg I'm so excited :D
  18. So? Sounds like they did a good job setting the game up for the easy difficulty then.
  19. I don't think anyone gets into the games industry for the largest paycheque
  20. Clarify this position please. By creating additional legislation, they are requiring the government to oversee and influence people's lives in ways that are not necessary. There is no need for the government or the legal system to get involved with the institution of marriage, yet this is exactly what the voters of California demanded the government do. The only limits should be on things that go against state or federal law. How is that not still tyranny of the judicial? It's the judicial system vetoing the will of the people. I would also support the judiciary if they stepped in and prevented an amendment that passed that outlawed marriage altogether. This whole situation is people attempting to get the government too needlessly interfere with the lives of other people for no benefit.
  21. I'd be surprised that the people making it were just volunteering their time.
  22. Sometimes I wish that Civ would take a more alpha centauri like approach and allow some sort of unit creation, but it'd have to be mitigated within reason which is why I doubt it'd ever happen.
  23. I dont know the details either, I just find it revolting that one person can squash the will of millions who legally ammended their states constitution to reflect their wishes. I also find it revolting that millions of people feel the need to legislate that people are different shouldn't be granted the same privileges afforded to them. What I don't like is that it looks to me like they're trying to unnecessarily increase the role of government in legislating something like that. Marriage is not protected by the constitution afaik. I wasn't asking about marriage. I explicitly stated that it was an aside. Would you place no limits on what California citizens amend to their state's constitution simply because the majority agrees upon it?
  24. Dunno. How do you deal with tyranny of the judiciary? Is this a case of tyranny of the judiciary? I don't remember the full details of the case. Having said that, as an aside, if the people of a state vote in favor of passing an amendment that violates the US Constitution in some way, what should be done?
  25. It'd be stupidly easy if the majority swung the other way. Does that mean that the original enactment should remain? How do you deal with tyranny of the majority then?
