  1. Though, is what we've seen right now really SO over-the-top? A supermutant with a wig - is it any worse than the straps on their faces? Fantastic (the guy of Helios One) - is he any worse than Tandi? (I don't know, actually, since we didn't even have a quote from his dialogue). I agree that too over-the-top humor, and especially over-the-top humor that doesn't fit the setting can ruin a game, but for now, everything I've seen seems to fit. Maybe I'm just blinded by the fact that I like almost everything I've seen about the game though.
  2. Harold had Bob only from 2 onwards though. Forgot about that; My mistake. I think my point still stands, though. Yup, your point still stands, true. I actually believe that Fallout 2 got a lot of things right, but also a lot wrong, though with a figure, I don't know, we could call him/her a 'cohesion lead' that controlled that all the content fit the same tone, it could have been much better. I could go on about how I would change the game, but probably (and rightfully so) no one is interested, so let's just settle discussing New Vegas. .... On this subject, I'd like to point out that Super Mutants have indeed lips. And straps on their faces. Thank God (well, actually no, I'm agnostic).
  3. Harold had Bob only from 2 onwards though.
  4. I don't quite care even if 'Mr.House' is his name. Then again, my native language isn't english (as if it's not obvious enough by how I write ) and I didn't even know about 'The House always wins' 'til a couple of days ago.
  5. The footage on the GameTrailers preview was pretty good and I didn't notice any awful AI. I really like the character designs of some of the NPCs, I must say.
  6. My 2 cents about the whole storytelling/gameplay thing. Two of the games Calax mentioned 'Shadow of the Colossus' and 'Ico' are actually a lot different from what people think when they hear 'lots of storytelling and no gameplay'. First of all, their gameplay is rather good (almost excellent at points in 'Shadow of the Colossus'). Second, their storytelling isn't done through the obnoxious 'stop the game! I've got a story to tell and you can't interact in any way!' but rather through environmental storytelling (a buzzword, especially considering how many developer get this wrong) and with little to no dialogue. So, the way to make the story more interesting for me is to make it more interactive, to make it a real element of the game and not just a script that has taken over the game like a tumor. There are very few exception to the rule 'cutscene-heavy game == major suckage' and I don't feel they belong to the category 'bad gameplay' anyway. If anything, I'd still find Metal Gear Solid 2 fun when skipping all the cutscenes... no, WAIT. I find it MUCH MORE FUN.
  7. Maybe he was busy? Also Avellone has already experience with writing comic's scripts.
  8. Just four words : LOW. INTELLIGENCE. DIALOGUE. OPTIONS. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH YEAH. And a bunch of other things too.
  9. The price will probably too high but I'll think about it. I don't care about items and such things but the Avellone-penned graphic novel...
  10. I meant 'Alpha Protocol's visual presentation'. Though, when we talk about sales or reception it certainly won't be on par with the 'blockbusters'.
  11. I won't watch it for this reason. Meh.
  12. No one said that Alpha Protocol is on par with AAA title.. it isn't, to put it simply, and it clearly is a bit dated, especially when it comes to animations and textures. The only thing I'm saying is that the visual presentation seem atmospheric enough to support the game and considering it runs on UE3 it will probably run very well on my rig which is.. welcome.
  13. I personally used the 'alternative soundtrack' since I couldn't stand the Oblivion-ish themes of Zur. Even if I try to detach them from the game they're so ... soulless... I hope he does a better job on New Vegas. How was his work on Tactics?
  14. Aehm no, Gomorrah is apparently a place where you have to expect sex themes, drugs and vices etc... and I though I didn't have to explain the joke lol. As for the evil Frank Sinatras, I don't really know. I'm not exactly an expert on american culture. EDIT : Sawyer's reading. For some reason I imagine him cackling ominously on all the wrong information inaccurate speculation in this thread. With latin chanting on the background.
  15. While X's plot too had some rather incomprehensible pieces (made worse by my fuzzy memory) I found the gameplay genuinely fun, the setting was really good too, the visual presentation and music were perfect and even the mini games were great fun. I heard a lot of people complaining about it, but can't really see why.
  16. A couple of new informations from the same preview on the same topic on the same ol' Beth's boards: - Mr. House (that's the name of the fella who controls the city) doesn't deal personally with the Casinos. There are apparently various faction that control the different Casinos and one of them is the Chairman, mentioned as powerful enough you don't really wanna mess with. - Of course, even this factions have to respect Mr. House's rule. They still have their own rule though, as with the fact that you can't bring guns in some Casinos, unless you hide them with a very high sneak skill. - There is also a place (not sure if it's a city or just another Vegas' casino) called Gomorrah. Guess you know what to expect given the name.
  17. That's interesting though I don't like the metagaming implications of what he mentioned. EDIT : Though I've been harsh on his previous comments I think it's important to point out that the fact that he thinks the game is apparently 'fun with a capital F' it's refreshing. That's what matters to me. I want to have a great time with this game. And I feel sometimes, discussing design, consistency and all of that it tends to be forgotten on gaming forums (by me too, of course).
  18. To be honest I still haven't played Final Fantasy 7 (read a Let's Play some times ago, but that's not exactly 'playing' the game), so going with the whole 'Final Fantasy VII is the reason people think FFVIII sucked' is a bit unfair. Yeah, there's no doubt some people went into the new game with that kind of perception but a lot of people actually have legitimate issues with the game.
  19. It was probably more of a concern due to the range of the attack. If he really got as close as he said he did, it probably wouldn't require any pistol skill (i.e. me) to effectively shoot the guy in the back of the head. It may be just me but I smell an hyperbole. You also have to consider that in this game while putting skill points helps A LOT the reticule ALWAYS goes down to the minimum, you just have to wait more time. Seems perfect for stealthy character, doesn't it?
  20. The fact that he complains about pistols being inaccurate when he puts 3 points there.... really, since when character development became just an interface in which you put funny points but you don't expect your perfomance in the game to depend on those?
  21. The dragon age screen is on low settings, though. Not that it matters, I played DA:O on max settings and I still think AP looks better than it did. It actually doesn't seem to be on low setting to me, but it's a pre-release screenshot since the interface was tweaked a little bit before release. It's a good indicator on Dragon Age graphics quality in combat though since it hasn't really changed much.
  22. There's also a new, very small, screen on The Vault (it's actually from April's news about the Game Informer mag preview on Game Informer's website but it just slipped) : http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/File:FNV_scr...R_vs_Mutant.jpg Are those... lips? Please tell me I'm not just imagining things.
