  1. Oh the joys of a well-executed jail break. As diverted into slap-stick comedy by a cunning GM....
  2. That is what a long-haired persian is like. Regular brushing every day and the knots are be-damned hell to get out.
  3. Just for the semi-random quotage from a work of fiction that links in on the subject might entertain a few of you..
  4. If we're going to start bringing the animals into this thread.. One dog enjoying the sun.. The other beastie out in the sun... The cat hiding from the sun...
  5. I always have mixed feelings about Stan Lee, on the one hand, yes, he is a major cultural icon of the comic industry, he usually seem's willing to take a poke of fun at himself, and he has certainly guided a whole slew of comic-related matters over the years.. On the other hand, you hear how he's managed to take credit for the work of a lot of others over the years and shifted their original visions around in the process of making it all a "part of stan lee's legacy".. So I think it becomes a mixed bag. Ah well, that's probably the same that can be said for any larger-then-life character that has been around for decades..
  6. And in remembrance for the day..
  7. Well I saw some psychology/sociology studies that most "friendships" last around 7 years before you end up falling out of contact with them (and yes, that's the real-life ones, not just the internet weirdos you chat to...). So take a step back and think about how many people you knew in real life 7 years ago that you still chat to, see, or communicate in any meaningful way. Then compare to how many folks you semi-chat to/at on these boards and how long that's been going on... Or at least, how many people you made the acquaintance of over the internet 7 years ago. Heh, I know I have a couple of friends I've been talking to via online technology for a decade at least. In a couple of occasions some of those friends have hooked up, moved countries and gotten married to other friends on the internet in that time frame....
  8. Been prodding some work along, sent off an email, decided to take a break and have another poke at Game Dev Tycoon..and found that apparently my headphones have decided to not work. So now I'll have to go spend money on some new headset. Darn it.
  9. With all the talk about Game Dev Tycoon.. I went and picked up a copy myself. I made the mistake of doing so around 10pm. And it is an addictive little bastard of a game that doesn't let you see the pc clock and realise just how many hours have rolled on....
  10. "There are two kinds of officers, sir: killin' officers and murderin' officers. Killin' officers are poor old buggers that get you killed by mistake. Murderin' officers are mad, bad, old buggers that get you killed on purpose - for a country, for a religion, maybe even for a flag." Walsingham's addendum: Officers tell you where to die, NCOs get you there on time, commissars make sure you do. "An experienced NCO outranks a 2nd Leutenant without a clue. A running Ordnance Disposal guy, outranks EVERYBODY."
  11. "There are two kinds of officers, sir: killin' officers and murderin' officers. Killin' officers are poor old buggers that get you killed by mistake. Murderin' officers are mad, bad, old buggers that get you killed on purpose - for a country, for a religion, maybe even for a flag."
  12. And incredibly spot on...
  13. Been poking around on Kingdoms of Amalur of late. Lots of pretty visuals, not many memorable characters...
  14. Having a slow start to the day here with one of those draining headaches grinding along on the forebrain. My mother is having a major cleaning/reshuffle of things around in her room. Which with the furniture and odds and ends and her moving around doesn't really leave room for anyone to help her. Plus it's that "carefully constructed stacks of things" that only she knows how she wants them organised. So I'm pretty much staying out of it except when there's a need to shift the bed/furniture around and provide those chunks of manual labour... Tis hot and sunny and bright outside.. so I'm pretty much lurking to the shade inside and avoiding the feeling of life today..
  15. The first three seasons are quite good and interconnected. The 4th doesn't quite hold up as much, and the 5th while quite interesting in what they try to do and entertaining in it's way, doesn't quite seem to hold up to the promise of the first few seasons. Edit: Of course, I might have picked that up because I pretty much watched it enmasse when I had seasons 3, 4, and 5 all together over the course of basically one long weekend and bank holiday... Oh, LadyCrimson, if you're watching that Sherlock series, keep your eyes out.. Jude Law turns up as a young boy in pretty much one of his first acting gigs if I recall correctly.
  16. Caught the latest episode of Castle. Heh, some amusing bits to it, and re-inforcing relationships by having Becket stood on a bomb while Castle refuses to leave and attempts to keep her spirits up. Only now I'm having flashbacks to all the old tv sci-fi shows in the 90's that would save budget towards the end of a season from one episode to put towards some major two-parter special effects end-of-season extravaganza by having a "flashback" episode... An excuse to basically only film a couple of characters in a small room, while large chunks of the episode are just a montage of clips from earlier in the show with various voice-overs as characters talk to each other.
  17. What can he not do?
  18. Heh. Wait for it...
  19. Yes, and yes (the purple tie).. All of the key male members of both families were colour coordinated with the bridesmaids dresses. As in, a matching set of silk tie, handkerchief for the top pocket, and cufflinks, were all matched to each bridesmaid - although the father of the bride was colour-linked pink via the sash thing the bride was wearing...
  20. Not to forget just how the bridesmaids looked (as we were talking pretty ladies in Mexico..) And yes, I did end up standing in front during those important speeches.. Which was quite a sizable group. Let me point out, the following was the "close, intimate family" for the restaurant meal after the civil celebration aspect. The wedding guests for the church day, were..quite more numerous.
  21. Oh, and for the confirmation, Yes, there were mariachi at the reception: And for a view of the church: Which we left looking like:
