Yeah, establishing your own service would be a pain, but it's not like this due to the existence of already existing private services. This would still be the case even if those private services (like steam) didn't exist. What you seem to be complaining about is the lack of a public service, not that private services exist. Which would mean that this isn't an example of private property being a limiting factor. Private & public services do not exist exclusively to one another. Establishment of a private service(currency processing or distribution of goods) that was open to all or is personal is limited by capital, which is private property. So it is limited by private property. As to a public service for exchange or distribution, we can't really have that with intrusion from government whether that government is a state or a corporation. A public service CAN be established without the government. There is no public service that actually needs the government. What the government does is bring the violence needed for forced participation or suppression; voluntary public participation is still possible. A public service that isn't backed by violence is just asking to be abused. The threat of violence is what made society and its what keeps society from falling apart.

Capitalism sounds like a good idea until you realize that it only works when the gap between classes isn't to wide and there is mobility. Don't know why they keep arguing Capitalism thought, because what we have is a plutocracy that has been accurately described as social welfare for the wealthy. I think I covered my thoughts on that on previous threads, so I'll just say that systems are never the problem as they tend to be made with the best intentions to work under their circumstances. The monkey wrench its always the human element. One final note; people better get used to the idea of socialism as our spending capacity will soon not be able to keep up with production and some markets will shrink further decreasing spending power. Social planning to enable employment or to make basic necessities affordable to everyone will become a necessity as it will increasing taxes on companies and ensuring that they employ domestically. We might see a lot of capital outflow but with a boycott in place it would mean that the markets will be ripe for a takeover. Interesting post, whats your view on the gay marriage bill that was passed ? I tend to lean towards the cynical when dealing with politics, whatever they do they do for their benefit. Bills like that are good PR and help distract everyone from more important issues. BTW, hell of a segue into that question

BTW, what traditions are we going to follow? Cuz I'm trying to praise the sun but it's cloudy outside. Oh Orog I was watching the opening of the American embassy in Cuba and they had this festival and these Cuban dancing girls ...and oh my hat these girls were smoking hot ,,,dude Cuban girls are nice, you should never have left Escaping the Castro regime was worth it I'd imagine. Plus, we have a lot of Cubans in South Florida.

Good idea. Bills and alcohol go hand in hand. I make cups of my bills and drown myself in Scotch, they should really be made of better paper.

I don't like the final fights on either of the games, but that's because I dislike CRPG mechanics.

Bruce why do you have against us? You would really condemn us to a bad president just because you have to satisfy your ideological itch of seeing a woman as president? The system is ****ed, the people's candidate always gets buried and miscast while the two corporate circus freaks are promoted. I'm surprised of how American democracy looks like Cuban Socialism. You see my friend the real question is " do you think Obama has been a good president " ? Because Clinton will be much of the same and that's a good thing IMO, a very very good thing for the overall strength of the USA I have almost given up trying to convince people why Obama has been so good for the USA, history will vindicate my support of him But also Hilary Clinton comes with a wealth of experience so its not just the fact she is a women, yes that is part if it I won't deny that, its the fact she is equally qualified, if not more so, than any other candidate So the better question is " why not Hilary Clinton " ? I don't think he has been a good President, most of his accomplishments have been without real substance. In his defense I could say that indeed he inherited a great mess and that the system has been broken for years, it will be difficult to repair it in just 2 terms. But then I remember that he's the drone strike lord, which is what makes me fear Hillary cuz I don't think she is as nice a person. There seems to be this blanket judgment on drone strikes as them being a bad and unacceptable military strategy, I don't support this view The usage of drone strikes makes sense in lots of cases. For example there primary use has been against the Taliban in Western Pakistan and Afghanistan and questions are just ignored about why the USA deploys drones? The Taliban and its affiliated groups like Al-Qaeda don't fight a conventional war in Afghanistan, they wage war against the the Coalition forces in Afghanistan and then cross the border to Pakistan where they regroup and strategize. The current Pakistan government has no control over these Al-Qaeda influenced areas so what is the USA suppose to do? Just let the Taliban cross the border and think they can come back to Afghanistan in the summer...no this makes no sense. Now they could deploy ground troops into Pakistan but then we have many other issues like the sovereignty of the Pakistan government because even though those parts of Pakistan are not under the control of the Pakistan government its still part of there country So drone strikes make sense, there has to be some punitive military steps against people who want to engage in war against the USA and its allies in Afghanistan and think they can hide in some other country The usage of drones has been disavowed by people who use drones who admit "We don't know what we're shooting at". Boots on the ground gives more accurate intel when making a decision. Drones are precision tools but without the intel its like a butcher performing surgery with a scalpel, the tools are there but the knowledge isn't. Also, he's involved in a series of conflicts that he refuses to call wars and along that he has set a series of dangerous precedents of the President bypassing Congress.

No, I saw their sheep. They're surely Welsh.

I'm on the fence about this because it puts too much power onto the hands of the public by minimizing the risk. It could work by tapping into the group mentality that is festered on the internet and have direct benefits as boost to publicity. But as game dev I really don't want to work for gamers, they complain too much and know too little. Kickstarter has a good balance where the devs can use it as launch platform, this new model seems to make devs beholden to gamers. That power dynamic might create a very hostile environment for the devs.

Why do I think of STDs when I hear that?

You could in theory create a 2D animation for a 3D game but particles work best IMO. Animating would be too much work for a low pay off.

The Society of Professional Journalism got a panel together to discuss the failures in covering Gamergate and other leaderless movements and how they can do better going forward. Guys I can tell all of you exactly why GG failed...you don't need the SPJ I won't be condescending but its a fair amount of writing so I wont post it unless someone specifically wants to know Sorry Bruce but your post feels like a swan song of someone who's denying what has been achieved.

After getting moderately drunk for the the second day in a row I have began to wonder if i'm an alcoholic. I have some trouble controlling the amount that I drink sometimes but I'm always somewhat coherent (thanks to spellcheck) and can easily quit but I do wonder what makes someone an alcoholic. Oh and I sent my glasses to get the prescription changed, i'm using my old glasses and I can't see ****.

Nowadays Huckleberry Finn is more controversial.

Ah, the midriff outrage, how could I forget? Good thing that got straightened out, nothing worse than warping the minds of our youth by exposing them to the evils of midriff. Bellybuttons are the devil's eyes.

Except... they totally did? EDIT: http://blogjob.com/oneangrygamer/2015/03/divinity-original-sin-dev-talks-boob-plates-sexism-and-moral-outrage I'm a little confused. I only skimmed the article but its seems to be referencing D:OS and I don't see where they changed anything due to the whiners. Can you direct me to the relevant portion of the article? They put more clothes on the girl in the picture.

In a non corporate government that might actually be true, in our republic stuff gets done because of corporate or self interest not because of the best interest of the people.

"Open World" Abused by Marketing Miscreants?
Orogun01 replied to Luridis's topic in Computer and Console
I find the complaint quite ridiculous as well as the examples provided, Witcher 3 and Dragon Age both have less loading screens than Skyrim but somehow you don't think they're open world enough. By your own definition of stream loading you contradict yourself; if open world where only about the continuous scale of the main game world then at which point does it become open. Anyways, people will always argue over inane things like semantics because they think their interpretation its better.- 14 replies

There might be some deals in the back between Sony, Microsoft and these developers where they agree to cover the cost of a port and it is good for the devs because it means they can have a job longer and support their next projects.

I think Bethesda quit making RPGs around the time that Oblivion came out, although considering that I hat Morrowind that might be a change for the better.
