In a bizarre switch everyone EXCEPT the government goes mad
Orogun01 replied to Walsingham's topic in Way Off-Topic
Dogs kill dogs and cats kill the offspring of other cats - most animals have absolutely no problem with killing their own kind - but their own "social" group, now that's a different story. Humans are much the same, luckily for us our layer of 'civilization' or 'culture' or whatever you might want to call it, marks everyone else (as long as they pose no immediate threat) as part of our group. Add just the right amount of apathy or desperation and you see just how thin that layer really is. That sounds like an anecdote Care to share it? -

Children do understand the correlation of cause and consequence, you just need to make it clear to them. If my mother told me "Stay quiet or I will bust your skull" that's a perfect example of stating the consequence. The problem is that the brats believe that they will get away with it because they are kids. Oh, and don't blame the parents is not their fault that they spawned the devil's child. Actually this ties into more of the "nature v nurture" debate. The children could possibly have still been ok, even if predisposed to "evil" if their parents had done something. Not saying it would have happened inevitably but there's always the chance, but that's under the assumption that they did nothing. Actually, it would fall more under Operant conditioning since evil it's an ethical argument and not psychological. What for us is evil; because we are conditioned to believe so, has not quite formed on the infantile mind. A kid doesn't quite understand why is killing wrong and the more sheltered he is from the subject the more desensitized to it he will be. -

I wasn't specifically comparing them as products, just the problem of exchanging a pile of perfectly well working MP5's that your spec ops are used to using, for a new and yet unproven weapon. It might be actually be a far better weapon - just these habits change slowly, if at all. And well maintained guns last a long time. True, but the US army is looking for a change; just look at the HK 416 or the XM18. Plus special ops are irregular groups they could deploy some Vectors along MP5s. As for the MP5's future; SWAT still needs them

I think the design is a bit too recent to put full trust in it no? The Kriss seems to be like the Five-Seven pistol. I love it, its extremely well made - but it costs an arm and a leg (not to mention the FS uses expensive and rare ammo). My grandad's sixty year old trophy VIS 35 does the same job for a fraction of the cost. From my admittedly small knowledge of firearms (my dad wrote a book on the subject, I just picked up a little from him over the years) the Kriss seems like a bodyguards/police weapon that will see limited use. It will also have to compete with the likes of H&K MP5 which more or less do the same thing but are much more popular. And if my knowledge of US laws is correct the Kriss, like all new full auto guns will be available only to military and police. Which will mean that only the police will end up using it and so far as I know police purchases aren't enough to make a new gun really sell well (the Five-Seven had this issue until it was released in a civilian version). In say a real eg: middle east combat area like Iraq or Afghanistan one of the shorter and concealable AK types would make much more sense given the abundance of ammo and the proven durability. However, if you were a nut for personal protection and living in a western country where maintenance and money aren't an issue then I suppose, theoretically, it would be a good purchase. They will probably release a semi-automatic civilian version (AR-15 style) nothing that can't be worked around and then onto the zombie apocalypse The Mayans predicted it! As to Vector vs. MP5; the Vector does have some pros over the MP5. More compact and easy to carry; it uses the 45. ACP ammo, so more stopping power.

Just finished Bad Company 2. The plot; same as MW2: fight the russians, crash a satellite recover something. Yet for a shooter you spend most of the game learning how to ride every vehicle Despite being an absolute MW2 rip-off it even makes fun of them with dialog such as: "If we don't go the'll send some special force pussies with heartbeat sensors" or " Snowmobiles are for sissies". BTW: Can anyone recommend some good rpgs?

Well the Kriss is a submachine gun, you can't compare it with a shotgun. Still the Vector may be a contender against the MP5. Can't beat it though.

To the OP: you forgot to include Maggie's perspective. She obviously think that processing these children through the system will make them worse. It's fair to say that the difference between amateur and pro is that you went to prison-school; treating young offenders as adults may end up creating a worse creature. -
wrath might have had more luck if he declared that russian lit = dark rather than nihilism = dark. am being hyperbolic and am certain that somebody can identify a famous russian author who did not do dark... but we cannot think of one at the moment. HA! Good Fun! Tolstoy? Nabokov?

I liked Waterworld. Sometimes I feel like I am the only person in the world who did When Black Death cigarettes went out of business in 1999, I quit smoking. I enjoyed the "Surgeon General's Warning: If You Smoke These, They Will Kill You". They changed to "Surgeon General's Warning: If you smoke these, I will find you and I will kill you."

Infinity Ward founders canned by Activision

$310 millions the first day on US and U.K sales alone. Five days later $510 millions worldwide. As of January 18th over 1 billion revenue in sales. Oh; and those are just the numbers for MW2. # 1 entertainment industry in the world: Gaming!! Not movies with blue treehuggers. Even those numbers don't beat WoW... Which earns (every month) 100 million (more, I used 11 million as the subscriber number instead of 11.5) for acti-blizz. Which over the course of a single year beats MW2 without actually releasing anything. Assuming that every person picks up a copy of Cataclysm on one day, that's 460 million. I think that they only count sales not payed subscriptions. -

It's my understanding that the MoU was reached after the incident. Besides they chose to bring this out after the release of MW2 when West and Zampanella stood between them and control of MW for which they had multiple plans for spin offs (which are in development). Will need to review the document but rule #1 of lawsuits: Always go for the deep pocket. You go high hoping that they will meet you down at the middle. All this because they asked to work on one IP? They were asked to deliver MW2 and they did so before the time limit, they fulfilled their obligations. Part of the MoU included time to work on a new IP which is probably why this thing started anyway. Activision trying to cash in on MW and IW trying to do something different. Don't remember they saying "the industry" (again, have to review) but is definitely the biggest product on Activision's history. The articles you are looking for are on Gamesutra. Perhaps is true, perhaps is not. But is not about what's true is about you can prove. -

I don't remember the specifics but I think that it was during or before the development of MW2. Even so the reached a MoU in which the bonuses and the IP are the bargain. Probably the whole amount may go to the high numbers, between the bonus, damages, unpaid royalties and the IP. But remember that the payment is to IW in general; I think It's being tried as a civil lawsuit but somehow I feel that the demands are on behalf of the whole studio since they were all aggravated on the proceedings that lead them here. It was Actvision who intimidated every employee and scrounge every possible cause to fire West and Zamp. Activision had them escorted out of the building, questioned members of IW to tears and they have refused to pay them what's owed and what was promised on the MoU. The language is exaggerated probably because these cases are much like haggling you go up not down. Oh, and Blizzard and Activision operate as separate entities, they did not had a hand in any of those games. -

Or it may be that this case is unique because West and Zampanella negotiating with other publishers, which is why they could be withholding profits. Or so they could say. MW2 is one of the best selling games ever; 4.7 millions sold a day after release. I say that billions is not a stretch of reality; and Activision is also owe them a promised bonus. Even so, they have a strong case and if they lose they have the public's pity. For all that's worth -

Put your money where your mouth is and not just your foot. We need examples! I appreciate what you're doing, but you really shouldn't feed the local troll. I think a good example of "dark" would be KotOR 2. Not necessarily a world where every single being is miserable, but where it's a bit more mature, or at least less black and white about certain choices. Kotor 2 was more of a metaphysical exploration of the Force than actually evil "dark". Kreia acted as your foil no matter what side you were on and offered a balanced perspective. Still it is a valid point there was some touch of dark in that game, certainly the mood was darker than the first game.
