  1. You are in love, and are excused. Funny, I get stinking drunk when I'm in love. I need to drown those lying butterflies in my stomach.
  2. Look at it from a developmental standpoint, this route is used a lot because it allows the player a wide learning curve. Mechanics are presented step by step without confusing the player, as well as connecting him/her to the growth of the character. A great example of what you are looking for it's Ezio in Brotherhood, you start with all the skills that you gained in the previous game and even through the end of the tutorial when you lose them you are still a badass master assasin.
  3. Basic Hero's journey, the hero must always start from an afflicted position so that he/she is more relatable to the viewer. Such as the case which you present, despite your hero being a prince he begins his quest from a secondary role (he is our equivalent of a princess[ and looks like one too]). Since all stories; specially those relating to heroes, are a variation of the monomyth they have that in common.
  4. Last week I began my first C++ programming class (what a coinkidink) this is the book we are going to use http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/159200205...8-1&seller=
  5. Ahh Kubrick, all those fond childhood memories of mine. I gotta give it up for Paths of Glory, one of the best war films ever.
  6. Before FFVII there were a ton of JRPGs, that while massively popular on Japan they always came short on the West (story of every JRPG) the RPG market was in fact dominated by JRPGs from 94 to 98. Continuing with the timeline of RPGs; the focus switched back to WRPGs because of the advent of 2 major MMOs during 98 (Everquest, Ultima Online) which is what we heraled as the golden age of PC wrpgs. We are taking the whole definition of the genre into account here, and the point is whether that popularity it's hurting them or not. Since now it caters to a wider crowd as opposed to previous gens which were confined to lovers of the genre. Also the companies that you mention were at it's peak 5 years ago when both markets were at their highest. I point out that I am talking about the quality of their products not their popularity.
  7. I know the war games market as being an offshoot of the PC strategy games, which is sort of related to CRPGs since both peaked at the same time. I would love to see old school RPGs follow the same model of only catering to their; albeit minor, target audience. It also seems that old school it's making it's break onto the mainstream with games like Hunted, DS3 and Kingdoms of Amalur, all these i'm cautiously optimistic. I'm not so sure that the "mainstreamization" of RPGs is a good thing, they were always sort of the outcasts games. Text heavy, drew intensely from PnP games (so it had that added nerd factor) and the mechanics confused a lot of people. By their nature they used to be exclusive, making them appealing to the mainstream has taken away a lot of what these kinds of games were. Edit: I forgot Diablo III.
  8. You make it sound as though video games are going through an artistic period. With one side embracing blind innovation without taste and the other reacting towards more conservative values. Although the great difference in the amount of resources used and the quality of both products might make me consider mainstream as the clear loser.
  9. you know that no matter what the Witcher will still be better than DA2?
  10. Which is creepier, the futons, or the loli dutch wives? the dutch wives are a few steps above the blow up dolls, I suppose that what's creepy about them is how attached their owners get to them. It's all creepy sad.
  11. Gaider can't get laid IRL so what do you expect? He's a writer, somehow he has to express his frustration. So for the good of BW he should get laid.
  12. What. Starcraft2 is dumbed down, cause unit pathfinding actually works now, so it takes less skill to play. The main campaign was, it was basically "you get this new unit, use it to succeed in this level" rinse and repeat for every planet. I remember where every mission wasn't a tutorial on how to use a new unit.
  13. That's one reference which I really REALLY don't get. Me neither, but it's cute, in a twisted way. Still better than those anime girl futons, really creepy.
  14. Just though that you needed a refreshment on what you're facing. If we never hear from you again I will know that the big evil corporations have sent hitmen after you. I expect that you kill them otherwise I might lose my respect for you Seriously though, I hope that you can keep this level of bravado once the half mark is past.
  15. Think of it this way: How quickly and effectively did the community of gamers come up with ideal build orders in Starcraft II? Or ideal character builds based on the changes that roll out with a WoW expansion or patch? For all the planning that algorithm writers do, the community of users is always going to find inefficiencies that they didn't anticipate. The weirder DARPA stuff that gets publicly released is one of the things that occasionally makes me think that the hassle of getting a TS clearance could be worthwhile. Then I remember that I'm an attorney specializing a federal budgetary and accounting law, and realize that they wouldn't have any reason to let me near the cool stuff anyway. And handling classified documents is a huge pain in the arse, anyway. The problem is whether or not the gamers have perfect information? BTW are participants getting paid?
  16. Well morning after has come, everyone still alive report. Now where the hell is that grim reaper...
  17. mhhm you still be up against rich corporation with more resources than you and an expert team of lawyers. Counting with the chance that you may be able to go through with it, there is still the chance that they may win.
  18. Yep. I totally agree. Entire genres of game have vanished: everything from squad tactical combat to flight sims because everyone just wants to make that one super generic game that will appeal to all and sell billions. Frankly, I blame Blizard for f'ing everything up. But eh, my only point re: BW is that they're not the only ones doing it. They're just better at it. True what you said, but the matter is that BW is the most prominent and outward about from all the RPG developers. I can understand the reason's behind this tactics, the economy is hard and everyone wants to sell. A wider audience translates to more bucks, for a lot of devs this means dumbed down mechanics and difficulty (e.g Starcraft 2) but in BW it has taken over every aspect. They went from CRPGs to Action/RPG and their stories have become more stagnant, the premises and major elements have taken the back seat to companions and romance ( ME2, DA2) which quite frankly is something of a hit/miss relation.
  19. But is this a good thing? If BW wants to do crossover games then they should do them and stop catering to us. Also generalizing is not advancing the industry, I mean what if Spielberg decided to generalize on Schindler's list and add a little comedy? Eventually they should figure out what works for which purposes. Until then they are making a series of lukewarm games that are none too pleasing.
  20. So let me get this right, they have gamers playing hide and seek/tag with this unmanned vehicle so it will learn from it?
  21. The have their moments, is the lack of consistency throughout that bothers me. They can't decide between an earnest tone or a light one, what's worse they probably don't think that there is anything wrong with it. They haphazardly believe that's deep and profound, whilst they don't have any major unifying themes to tie their story. But that's a problem with a lot of games, I can already guess what ME3 is gonna be like. Prancing around the galaxy gathering allies, we are going to resume our romances from previous games (probably with some overly dramatic overtones of impending doom) and a few major surprises that are going to either make us laugh or cry. Just like any other BW game.
  22. As a Cuban I can tell that those were rolled by a fat hairy dude named Esteban, and picked up by me. The only thing rolled in the thighs of hot Cuban chicks was mine
  23. Can your fantasy make DA2 better and if so could I borrow it?
  24. Yeah but that would mean that they would have to think and there is a strict no thinking policy at BW. Which has an "originality" clause where if you actually come up with an original idea your contract is immediately terminated, also games made by gamers for casual gamers are the worst things ever.
  25. Ohh....are we supposed to be doing drugs too?
