  1. The biggest problem with writing for video games is that it's only been a few years since stories became a requirement for every game and there is no clear idea of how to implement it. Writing for theater transfer well into film, screenplay-wise but games are an interactive medium that requires an altogether different touch. Gameplay is the center of games, if some writer wants to make their bones because video games are popular they are getting the worst possible idea of what the medium is.
  2. So Medicare it's the problem not old people.
  3. Oh my God, I love the DOOOOOORSSS!!!
  4. Leaving old people to die is hardly a solution, specially when other countries have sustainable and successful models for free healthcare that we could be following. The biggest problem with healthcare is that is an industry and it's being treated as such, the US could stand to lose a few military contracts in order to actually sustain itself. But we rather spent more money figuring how to put people in wheelchairs rather than how to keep them walking.
  5. This is where my lack of game designing knowledge comes in, but I've always wondered why that was the case. Why can't RPGs be as visually stunning as other genre games, especially now that developers of RPGs have made it a point to turn their games into "action-RPGs". So if they're going more action oriented, why do a lot of the environments still look like basic stuff you'd see in RPGs from a decade ago? It's a trade off between mechanics and dialog vs. Visuals. They spent a lot of resources on the dialog aspect; specially the stack up system which was a complete waste IMO. Also I remember a lot JRPG having stunning environment but limited choices, even the previous Gen JRPGs have beautiful visuals.
  6. Sex is such a cheap way to induce immersion and more than not they fail at making the romanceable characters interesting. Probably because a bunch of fatties working 80 hours a week in a cubicle can't be expected to know what romance; or human relations for that matter, is. No offense to anyone.
  7. Yeah, Anders and that other guy. You don't have to flirt back though. I suppose if one is the type to freak out should a guy hit on them, then DA2 could very well seem like a "homosexual date sim", as moronic as that is. It's an equal opportunity dating sim, Merrill and Isabella/female options. Anders and Fenris the male ones. Although it's a little disturbing that every male companion in a BW game is able to switch teams so easily. No qualms or feelings of awkwardness, they are just ready for the PC to start swooning them.
  8. Wonder why people take entertainment as absolute instead of it's intended face value. Glee it's a good show, the Foo Fighters are a good band and they had a disagreement with the creator. Why make more of this? Seems like a majority of you were waiting for a chance to slam Glee down.
  9. No, the Shaperate literally says the documents you are showing him are not the actual documents. Bhelen's man gave you fakes. And when you go back to him, he says he doesn't care. It's a test of loyalty. They are legitimate documents but the dates and territory have been changed to incriminate Harrowmount.
  10. Again I say; if the biggest issue your game has is the highlights around objects, you hit the jackpot. It is such an irrelevant aspect that I don't know why there is so much focus on it.
  11. Holding my breath for a Blasto the Hanar spectre, game. I don't generally get too into the Bio-bashing around here, but it would fit the Bio pattern of fan-service catering if what started as a forum joke rose past "amusing comic-relief cameo" to stand-alone product. I would really love if they did something that would incite something other than bashing, but have lost themselves. Although I have to say that ME could be a worse game, I just don't agree with the logic of having a extremely detailed universe that rivals established Sci-Fi IPs and treat your story as a Saturday morning cartoon. But they have established consistence between these 2 games and i'm expecting 3 to be along those lines.
  12. Holding my breath for a Blasto the Hanar spectre, game.
  13. could it have anything to do with Crysis 2 coming out?
  14. What? I'm not complaining about anything. That's my job. Would you say that the inability to water plants will destroy the experience for you?
  15. No. I like the idea of being able to interact with everything, but in reality it's pretty pointless. In Deus Ex 1, you pretty much could. It was the point of the gameplay, a completely reactive envirment. You misunderstand. I'm talking about junk items that serve no real purpose. Things that once picked up you either drop them or throw them, liked potted plants and trophies, or things like phones which make a noise when used but have no purpose at all. In DX you walk into a room, there are 5 objects, and all of them can be interacted with in some manner though only 2 or 3 have any real use. In DXHR you walk into a room, there are 50 objects, but only 2 or 3 can be interacted with. Take this shot for instance, ignoring the man who is about to get stabbed by mean old Jensen, you can probably only interact with the gun and the computer, and the rest of the clutter is non-interactive scenery. If this was DX1, you could probably also interact with the potted plant, the recycling bin, and the phone, but together those 5 things would be the only items in the room. DX was never about being able to pick up anything that isn't nailed down. It's not a Bethesda RPG. So your biggest complaint is that you can't water the plants?
  16. too bad 2/3 of a nearly great game don't make a good game your review actually cemented my decision to not bother with this game. sounds like KOTOR 2 Bio style. only with bad writing and some weak characters I find the comparison unfair. KOTOR 2 was better.
  17. Yesterday I watched The fighter and Unstoppable both great films
  18. Good examples too, just spoke the one most recent. I specially liked System Shock 2, no surprise there. Thief on the other hand I could do without the slow gameplay, although I once I got past that I saw what everyone was talking about.
  19. I agree, I believe it's mostly because despite all the strides forward gameplay remains at the forefront. Which is why I believe that the great undermined gameplay should be the focus of storytelling, a great example of this would be Bioshock. Only 2 major cinematics, the rest was experienced through the character's eyes and it is still one of the most well crafted universes in gaming. We basically got all the finer points their interpretation of Objectivism through gameplay, with minimal use of cinematics and infodumping.
  20. Not just through writing, though largely ignored because of mind frames gameplay also requires writing. Games after all an interactive medium, it should be on the writer's mind what the player feels after taking out 200 guys without remorse and how to use that to create a cathartic response. A la Metal Gear Solid.
  21. To be honest after 2 shots of whiskey i'm a little bit tipsy, which it's probably why I got enough courage to do this. After a recent (the last 2 hours) self reflection I've been wondering about the need for a human connection and how that relates to internet posting. I feel a sense of community in here, people I know and may agree or disagree with, people we've lost, and this place allows me for an outlet that my ordinary life doesn't. We are social creatures; even when isolated, we validate ourselves through the reflections of others and I ask myself why do others keep coming here? Now I ask you, why do you keep posting on the net?
  22. Hauer ad-libbed the last few sentences of that sequence. But that was for soundtrack purposes, the song was awesome. Vangelis FTW. Morgoth, get in here and defend your avatar.
