  1. Well... I once had game crash on me during kraken fight... Maybe its for similar situation xD
  2. Thats actually makes me want to roll tanking cipher. Wonder if its possible to get some self-targeting will attacks to reliably trigger it xD Anyway, still torn about use of swift attacks here. Attack is slow anyway but torment reach with one fist is unremarkable xD
  3. To be fair I already finished game with this one, though it was lomg ago, it was male hearth orlan, he didn't have lightning strikes, instead opting for nature mark, was wearing garod helmet with retal and wielded little savior and Ilfan Byrngar's Solace. Just cleaning him up in this post as more experienxed player and also tried to make him look nicer xD but well, thats first chars for you. Bound to make stupid mistakes Thank you for Alia idea. Totally forgot about that shield
  4. It targeta will but it has very small radius(2m) and I do not exactly remember many melee ciphers though might be wrong here What shoeld would be good backup here, which is also look good with auch setup?
  5. Monk for turning wheel bonus, that grows with wounds coupled with helwalker might boosts paladin for flame of devotion - eternal devotion and scion of flame Devouted fighter obviously Chanter with Aefyllath Ues Mith Fyr and rapid casting access
  6. Its just a bit pity not to get Lightning strikes with that. As Firebrand has great base damage and this means lightning strike lash will be great as well
  7. Would appreciate some critique/advices. for example I personally not a big fun of rooting pain on this but maybe I am not getting something.
  8. Ok, while I am dancing with techsupport about fixing linux version of Deadfire(map failed to load for digsite. On several different character. Even after full reinstall) few more questions: 1. Is there any specific items apart from already mentioned "Ring of focused flame" I should watch out for? 2. What passive skills are worth to take and how much in it is worthy? For now I am planning(as well, I can't enter digsite near port Maje!) to go with Insight as by description it sound as dialog focused skill. But I have bigger bonus to religion and metaphisics so maybe they are more worthy to go with(though I think I'll focus on religion with Xoti and it look like she is giving me bonuses to it...
  9. So my first character in game was monk. Shield monk. I clearly didn't knew what I did but I kinda still like that old bugger. He was stupidly defensive and I quite liked using him as my secondary tank. So I desided today that maybe it worth to post him here. Went in with a bit of tweaking for sake of Fashion of Eternity( Pillars of fashion?) Anyway, here is monk of Sanguine order. =============================================== Karmesin Ordensschwester aka Sister of Pure Crimson ============================================== Difficulty: PotD -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Class: Monk ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Race: Wild Orlan -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Background: The White that Wend - Aristocrat -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MIG 18 (16 base -1 Orlan +2 Broad Belt of Power CON 14 DEX 3 PER 12 (9 base +2 Orlan +1 The White that Wend ) INT 19 (15 base + 4 Gwyn's band of Union) RES 20 (17 Base +1 Orlan +2 Broad Belt of Power) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Skills: Stealth: 1 (0 Base +1 Monk) Athletics: 3 (2 Base +1 Monk) Lore: 8 (6 Base +2 Aristocrat) Mechanics: 0 Survival: 14 (11 Base +1 Monk +2 Sanguine Plate ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ability: Defiant Resolve (racial) Swift Strikes Turning wheel Clarity of Agony Duality of Mortal Presence - Other Defences Crusible of Suffering Flaggelant Path The Dichotomous Soul Soul Mirror ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Talents: Weapon and Shield Style Cautious attack/Veteran recovery/Weapon focus: Peasant Weapon Focus: Peasant/Lightning Strike Lightning Strike/Scion of Flame Superior Deflection Bear's Fortitude Bull's Will Snake's Reflexes ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Equipment: Head: Sanguine Plate's Helm Body: Sanguine Plate (Legendary, Shock-resistant) Arms: Blood Testament Accessory: Hiro's Mantle Ring1: Ring of Deflection Ring2: Gwyn's Band of Union Belt: Broad Belt of Power Legs: Shod-in-faith ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Weapon slots: Fist + Redfield(Legendary, Durgan-refined) Steadfast + Redfield (legendary, Durgan-Refined)[cloned using mold from adventure for sake of looks] Quick slots: Potion of Flame Shield - it works with turning wheel and we already have retaliation from mantle Scroll of Revival - we stupidly survival, so we have decent chances to stay last if things go south Scroll of Fire Wall - one of best spells in game some defensive scroll according to situation --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nothing too strange here - defensive character focused on breaking through enemy attempts of disabling party, while dealing quite strong strikes with all monk lashes and retaliation At lvl 16 character has 135 Deflection/107 fortitude/106 reflex/121 will with cautious attack on. Additionally harbinger from shield provide +3 deflection against enemies in 2m radius DR stats: 25 Slash / 24 Crush / 28 Pierce / 12 shock / 20 other And in case you are afraid about wound gain: Ogre guard from The Celestial Sapling give you 3 wounds on graze. So no, you are not untouchable. Cautious attack does not stucks with priest buffs, however don't discount fact that you can enter the fight with it, while buffs still needed to be casted. Veteran recovery can be decent replacer for it. Alternatively scion of Flame also useful here as it affects Turning wheel bonus Originally build used little savior and rocked different helmet, but hey, with this setup character is 20% cooler
  10. On other hand this bonus can be active prior to fight itself so you can enter fight with it on and turn it off after recieving priest buffs. After all first second of the fight is the most vulnerable.
  11. Well he is not running this solo and he has Eder, Durance, Pallegena and Aloth in party... Pretty sure he will be ok. How effective build is is another question entirely xD
  12. Doesn't veteran recovery and novice suffering scales though? Btw about that "monk no monk guy" . He actually finished first act today with his 21-18-17-3-3-16 mountain dwarf chanter guy... looking at this stats I am out of words but hey, whatever rocks his boat. 3 INT he explained as he doesn't want to cast and doesn't care about area of coverage...
  13. Durgan enchantment does not take slots. So you can make it legendary+Corrosive Lash. Spirit of decay is talent so it does not take slots on weapon Depend on difficulty. On PotD I'd advised to start with weapon focus just so have easier time to hit targets(and not to rage in a fight with a single bandit prior to Guilded Veil) then get vulnerable attack to break through DR after which I'd get two weapon fighting to offset Vulnerable attack penalty. On easy-normal it doesn't matter that much though. For your second weapon slot I think I'd adviced having dual stilletos. Sure, you already has two damage on main weapon setup but Azureith's Stiletto and Bleak Fang has very fun "on crit" spells that works once per encounter.
  14. Not sure it would worth to make separate thread for this question so I just throw it here: what other cross-class talents are good in endgame? Outlader frenzy, Veteran Recovery, Apprentice sneak attack and Aspirant Mark are obviouly good, Gallant's focus is ok if no pal in party but what about others? Like Prestidigitator's missles? I know they are fantastic early on and 4 characters casting them at once can even cklean bosses in act 1 and early act 2 but I do not think it worth keeping any longer
  15. It affect it duration yes. However at basic level(10 int) it lasts 45 seconds already which isn't exactly short time for most of fights I think your priest or wizard or even paladin will make better use of that ring
  16. I just finished run with Firebrand focused monk with this belt using this: That was heck of fun.
  17. If you are going for bittercut, you really want to get in Spirit of Decay. It will work with base damage as well so Bittercut + Corrode lash + Spirit of Decat is really good Are you planning to run it solo? Not sure it is a great idea for first character. I'd probably skipped Savage attack as most of time you will want to have vulnerable attack on. You know, I highly doubt you, as a new player, will be able to get Mental Prowless in a time it will matter so I personally wouldn't count it. ALso what exactly are you planning to use your int on? just knockdowns? Or you planning to also use scrolls? Also did you post your talents and abilities in order you will get them or just mostly random?
  18. Well for him its not "plays" like monk, so well. Its more about his idea of monk in rpg. Just like some people find it strange that INT is not a dump stat for barbarian or MIG not a dump stat for wizard/druid/rogue/priest But it is decent "this game does not screw around on hard" mark.
  19. As he explained to me, wound mechanic for him felt not like monk who "suppose" to evade attacks and spells but some sort of barbarian class who gets stronger and stronger as he drop hp. Well, who am I to argue here xD Thanks for all explanation. THough I am ready to bet that he will drop this idea after Temple of Eothas xD
  20. How focus gain from soul whip works then? From full strike? Or from base? If from full that's not actually that bad... saves one talent on biting whip As far as I understood from his explanation he mainly want something that feels like dnd/pathfinder monk and poe monk just doesn't feel like monk for him so I am not sure he is after ROLFstomping here
  21. So soulwhip does not boost novice suffering damage. Pity Thanks for info. I translated it to player. looks like he will try to run novice suffering chanter
  22. Yeah, but after lvl 10 novice suffering begin rto slow barb down. WIth that ACC on carnage prone or stun on crit enchantments are so great. What about cipher btw? IIRC soul whip is also treated as a lash. Or it ignore bonuses?
  23. It is clossclass talant. Every non ranger class have access to it, assuming you have dlc
