  1. Just.. one.. more..
  2. Noone is advocating perfect realism. And even if we were going for realism, what's more plausible: 200 bullets or infinite amounts? That's not the point though. This is the point. It simplifies. Some people like it, I (instinctively) don't. With finite ammo: reloading makes me check the amount of ammo still with me and consider the possibility of running out if I engage that next group of enemies. With infinite ammo: "Stupid game, stop delaying my pray and spray, I have all the ammo in the world!!" It makes the times you get to use it feel special. If you can use it whenever, it'll just be another weapon, albeit slightly better than the last one.
  3. ^We need new board rules: Do not post in threads about games you obviously do not like. I'm hoping they'll manage the same AI intensity, but vary the environments and enemies more. They don't even have to open up the game any (which I usually suggest) if they can add a few surprises along the way instead. FEAR still has one of the best combat AI's I've ever seen in a game, that goes a long way.
  4. If you mean the maximum resolution it can handle, then no. They're both the same. Also, the 8800GT is faster than the 9600GT. The 9800GT (faster version of the 9600GT) is basically the same card as the 8800GT, only.. more expensive.. or something. I don't know. Noone knows what the hell Nvidia is up to nowadays. But if you're opting for the cheaper solution, the 8800GT is still your best bet: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/Best-G...ard,2011-2.html If you're willing to spend a little more, the 4850 is an even better bet: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/Best-G...ard,2011-3.html
  5. The 8800 GT is a great card and probably the safest bet for your rig. Unless you want to risk having to buy a new PSU too.. Just make sure you get a real 8800 and not one of those new fake ones.
  6. Yes, but my problem with this design choice comes from the fact that your gun can run out of ammo, thus the need to reload. But since we're reloading from a never ending cache of ammunition (meaning we can not run out of ammo), it's not very consistent at all (to use your words). In fact, it seems a little pointless. In my head it just feels wrong. Since you usually promote finite ammo, it'll be very interesting to see what makes Alpha Protocol differ enough for you to deviate from your principles. I guess it's something pretty clever to weigh up for that immediate loss of 'believability'.
  7. Why is it that whenever the discussion gets interesting enough for me to get involved, it gets pruned?!
  8. So who exactly loses his install discs every time a pirate downloads a game? After all, you're comparing it to someone taking someone else's possessions and destroying them. Please tell. Whoever compared buying a game to buying a pair of pants.. What can I say. Do you often go into a store, buy the coolest looking pants you see, pay for them and walk home to try them out only to find out they were made for Andre the Giant? In that case, someone needs to inform you about dressing rooms (ie. demos). This discussion needs to gain a few levels.
  9. If you give up on a game after 10 minutes, then sure, it's not for you. Move on, trade it in or something. Gothic 3 is not designed for the Halo generation (which is probably why it's much more popular in Europe than in the US). It's meant to be played for 50+ hours, which of course is impossible if you don't like the game to begin with. It's all about taste, not right or wrong. I don't really care if the physics or animations are from the 90's, that's not where the fun of a game comes from for me, but different strokes and all that. Find another game with better animations and be happy.
  10. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130385 Ok, so it is $170 (after mail-in rebate), skip a few beers It's much faster than a 9600. But your problem is that you don't know what kind of PSU you have in that case of yours. I am pretty sure HP doesn't supply their cases with modular PSU's and there are no spare cables to connect to the new GPU. Most powerful GPU's of today can't get enough juice from the PCI port alone, thus needing one or two external power sources durectly from the PSU.
  11. Which introduction to a game has left the biggest impression on you? I was thinking about what an impact some of these intro's have, that make you remember the game years after you've actually played it. By intro I mean the usual movie that starts you off, before you take control of your character in the game. The intro that's left the biggest impression on me is from Gothic (not surprising perhaps): (The video is actually part of a series of a guy who's recorded his entire playthrough of Gothic) It's not often you start a game without a name, as a criminal and getting your butt kicked before you've even had control over your character! The best intro I've seen is probably the intro to Last Ninja 3 on the Commodore 64: Artistic masterpiece with GREAT music. Feel free to add your own favourites, preferably with links..
  12. YES! Is that too much to ask?
  13. Today I found out that the only girl I've wanted to have sex with since my horrible break-up is supposed to be alone from the 23'rd of October. Her boyfriend is leaving for something I'm not really interested in. I have no problem hitting on her like a dog from that date on. This will be fun.
  14. And you, like the publishers, are thinking about this whole thing the wrong way around. Spore is an excellent example of a game that would need NO copy protection whatsoever. Just make it obligatory to logon to some sort of server when you play the game and let people download other people's creations (**** monsters), tribes and worlds. Offer an incentive instead of a punishment for the paying customer! I'm pretty sure the crackers wouldn't be able to touch EA's servers too? I wish EA would have tried that approach for this game, since it seems ideal for such an experiment.
  15. I can't stop myself from posting these
  16. That's exactly what it does. I never see ads. When compared to IE7 (without Adblock Plus), it's more than twice as fast when you load a normal Swedish online newspaper. And yes, Firefox's strength is that you can do whatever you want with it.
  17. Eurogamer review up: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=229057 9/10.
  18. Gee, your "preorder" sure was quick huh?
  19. My start-up page in Firefox is Speed Dial (3x3) and I use Adblock Plus. Chrome has NOTHING on Firefox + Adblock Plus when it comes to speed. Unless you visit a webpage consisting of text only perhaps..
  20. But if we have infinite ammo, why bother having to reload? Why not just let us pump as much lead into the air as fast as we can? The only thing reloading does is add artificial lag to the game, since we can't run out of ammo anyhow. We wouldn't even need the reloading animations, so the developers can spend their time on more important things! And if you're using the argument "most games have so much ammo anyhow, the point becomes moot", then why not get rid of health too since most games throw bundles of healthpacks at you anyhow? Or money, since most games still make you way too rich? Do you get the point yet? I, for one, enjoy fiddling with the weapons in the game. I enjoy finding the correct ammunition type for every weapon. I like having to conserve ammo for my sniper rifle (because it's ammo is big, bulky and rare) and have to solve difficult situations with other means when I'm out of ammo entirely. Yes, a lot of games give you too much ammo. But the good games are conservative with it, letting the amount of ammo play a tactical part in the game. I still don't know the reason why they chose to do this, but it will be fun to find out the reasoning behind this particular design choice. Instinctively I don't like it, but since I've no idea what the game will be like I'll try to keep an open mind about it until previews/reviews/release. By the way, I absolutely hate when they artificially restrict the players shooting with the help of an overheating gauge! I'm playing Project Snowblind right now and I could seriously hurt the guy who came up with that idea. I really hope that's not included in Alpha Protocol..

No, it really wasn't. It NEVER was. He used to have an offensive upside, but last season he lost that too and became a defensive liability only. There are lots of examples of defensemen that have such an offensive impact on the game that they're allowed to play even though their defensive capabilities are shaky at best. But McCabe could not back that up with offense anymore and therefore he's being traded. He's not a bad player, but he's wrong for the Leafs at this point in time. I am sure he'll do well in Florida though.
  22. A sort of Far Cry 2 interview where one of the developers try to explain what immersion means to him. Since this is a board where 90% of the people think Baldur's Gate 2 had the best graphics ever, 90% of the people here should probably skip this video. You know who you are. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/farcry2/...cial-movie?hd=1 I like it and it definitely sounds like my kind of game. Too bad there are (almost) no RPG elements in it.
  23. Nope. And we have unlimited ammo so we don't have to worry about picking up ammo either. Streamlined!! This is not going to be Deus Ex, but I still have high hopes for it.
  24. No. That would be like saying a policeman should be allowed to choose which crimes he wanted to pursue.
