  1. GTA: Chinatown Wars for DS review: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/grand-th...own-wars-review 10/10! Now *I* want to play it too!
  2. It was actually supposed to be a joke. Since you wrote you had a truck, I posted a picture of the exact opposite: Fiat 500, the sissiest car I could think of. I would never recommend a Fiat to anyone. If I were to recommend a car for real it would be something like this: Audi Q5 The problem is you have to poop money (like J.E. Sawyer) to be able to afford it.
  3. See? I've expressed concern about this before. Why must all villains be from the same exotic countries and the heroes from the US of A? It's clich
  4. Alpha Protocol is now known to the Eurogamer readers: http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/alpha-protocol-trailer Let's hope they like it.
  5. I played this in split-screen co-op tonight and I wasn't horribly impressed. We switched to party mode in Burnout Paradise instead.

I wasn't joking when I wrote that Jokinen is hot right now! 3 goals and 2 helpers from the Finn! But the Leafs won nevertheless :D I love it when we allow 6 goals and STILL win the game! 14 goals all in all. Wow.
  7. One thing that always makes me wonder is the resistance to go outside of the Unreal technology and look at the alternatives. I realize that the Unreal technology is amazing and has a great pipeline for everything from artwork to animations to game engine modifications. But despite a LOT of games using the technology, I can't think of one truly amazing game using Unreal Engine 3. At least not amazing on a technical level. A lot of people think Bioshock (for example) is amazing, but when you think about the technical bits, it's not such a stand-out. Small levels, non-destructible environments, very little player-environment interaction. It's a pretty standard shooter with excellent art design. Same with Gears of War/Gears of War 2: fantastic graphical effects, great artwork, great action.. but again small set-pieces of levels, very restricted destructible environments (mostly caused by scripts and not direct player interaction) etc. Great games but not ground breaking. Technology that amazes me is of the Cry Engine 2 or DUNIA Engine sort. Cry Engine 2 is of course extremely demanding on your hardware and I have no idea how modifiable the game engine is. Would it be possible to use it in anything but a shooter within a reasonable amount of time/funds? It's also hampered by not being console compatible. DUNIA Engine (used in Far Cry 2) is incredibly slick, works on both Xbox 360 and PS3, but I don't know if it's available for sale at all. But both Cry Engine 2 and DUNIA Engine support seamless streaming maps (huuuge maps), very realistic physics, destructible environments, day-and-night cycles and vehicles among other things. It just seems like both engines would be great alternatives to look at when shopping for a third party game engine. Anyhow, it would be nice to hear from a developer some of the reasoning behind the decision to go with Unreal Engine 3. What factored into the decision? Is it because it's basically an industry standard by now, making it the safe choice? Is it really so much better than the competition? Is it cheaper? Does it have better support (the Too Human crew seems to disagree..)? Is Cry Engine 2 entirely written in German with little swastikas hidden everywhere in the code..? Feel free to chime in.

You think Blake has found his hands again? Take a look at Olli Jokinen! He was always seen as a tremendous talent when he played in Europe. But he's been hampered by playing for a pretty rotten team his entire career so far. Now he's in Calgary and playing with the likes of Iginla. 4 goals and 5 points in his last 3 games.. pretty decent showing from the Finn.
  10. I hate how picture linking works as long as you're on a site, but when you leave the image disappears.. ANYHOW! This is the picture I meant: Stupid Worthplaying.
  11. Also.. Who is that? Are you trying to hide a hottie from us, Obsidianites?!
  12. I guess this capture (from GTTV) should ease your mind:
  13. A few new screens from Risen at worthplaying: http://worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=60613 I like this one: Looks a LOT like Gothic. Not a bad thing for me, but unfortunately I'm also getting some heavy Gothic 3 vibes from it. That means lots of polygons but much shorter viewing distance than in Gothic/Gothic 2. I prefer long viewing distances.
  14. I'm so getting this.
  15. There's a GTA game coming out for the DS in a few weeks. I'd wait for that. Also Professor Layton and the Curious Village is a great game. I think that was its name
  16. Has anyone here actually played Descent to Undermountain? I've been trying to find it, but I can't.
  17. If I had a PS3, I'd gladly pay $3 to be able to point and laugh at the rest of you.
  18. Why isn't someone porting the old Ultima games to the Nintendo DS? Or Wasteland? Or Pool of Radiance? All those old, fantastic RPG's would work so well on a small screen and updated graphics. I mean, the touchscreen is almost like having a mouse! It shouldn't be too hard to make a new user interface utilizing the touchscreen instead of a keyboard..
  19. Actually, that's exactly what I think they're doing. It would be really inefficient to rewrite the engine from scratch, so what I imagine they're doing is "broaden" the Crytek engine so it'll be possible to squeeze it into the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Of course, they'll probably work on the other end too (the upper end, for the Bokishi types), but I suspect the main difference will be the cross platform feature.
  20. No. I've gone through such a period myself where no games seem interesting. Then suddenly, out of nowhere, comes along a game that blows your mind away. For me it was Gothic. I actually had a 7-8 year long hiatus from games before that.
  21. Can I ask from what? Anything specific? They've been failing like crazy lately AND they managed to release some sort of firmware that bricked a lot of hard drives: http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/3...7200-11-failing It's gotten so bad that they've removed their five year warranty! It is now three years like the rest of them.
  22. Exactly, the monsters are mostly silent (and fond of sneaking up on you from behind while you're in some menu) and if they're not, the game warns you beforehand that you're going to run into them. Unless you count ventilation pipes falling down or some console blowing up startling, there's really no scripted moments when something suddenly jumps you. Or maybe I was so constantly freaked out that I never noticed the startling moments..? That's actually a possibility.
