I do. It's really annoying, especially after going straight for Fo3 after finishing the two previous games. I grew to rely on the descriptions to the point where primitive pictograms only confuse me. Funny. I guess one of these games just can't do anything wrong, huh?

I agree. I would also have liked there to be a lot more "dummy" buildings. By that I mean buildings you could enter that weren't named on the map, with arrows pointing to them and that *ka-ching* sound you got whenever you were close enough for them to appear on the map. Oh, and a LOT more side-quests spread out over the world wouldn't have hurt either, especially in those dummy buildings. They don't even have to be especially complex, just being there helps with the incentive to continue exploring. Hell, it doesn't even have to be real quests to get me interested. Like the toasters in Wasteland. They were a riddle from the beginning up until the very end, when you got the necessary skills and equipment to solve them, and the reward wasn't nearly enough for the amount of thought I spent on them.. Still, I remember them to this day and I spent a lot of hours on searching for them so they had to be worth something.

Actually, I have played them, several times, and in my memory they used speech bubbles to describe.. well, virtually everything. I assumed it was because of the top down view and the low detail of the graphics (low resolution). But feel free to refresh my memory of what visual cues the previous Fallout's backgrounds contained.

You're arguing from a point of pure ignorance and preference. Stop beating the drum that because your imagination fails, noone can tell a story through proper scripting, art design and asset placement. They may not be great, epic stories, but they're more than "frozen moments".
-
Yeah, they're enhancing the game for a few thousand people.. Amazing what they get away with. The backgrounds were dead in the previous Fallout's. You HAD to rely on speech bubbles because there was nothing else.

But this way of building and decorating the world to make it an exciting and varied place to visit (with lots of immersion enhancers/mini stories/ props/whatever) was sorely lacking in the first two Fallout's. It's actually a first for the Fallout series and a big step forward in my opinion. I agree that the actual story of Fallout 3 was very weak, but that doesn't mean everything Bethesda did in Fallout 3 was bad. It's annoying to read the same monkeys typing over and over how incredibly bad Fallout 3 did everything. I mean how interesting is that to read? Especially in a thread dedicated to a new game in the Fallout world? Personally I loved the mini stories (what I prefer to call them) everywhere and would love to see them return to Fallout: New Vegas. Preferably with a few scripted occurrences this time.. like that giant domino trap in one of the stores in Fallout 3. Instead of just letting things lie still, make a few surprises for the player to discover. Great for replayability too (unless you find everything on your first try..).

Oh yeah, another annoying 'feature' straight from consoles: the inability to name your save files. Pet peeve of mine. Especially for games like Fallout 3, where you usually want to make a special save file just before you leave the vault..

No, it's not that strange. It's the same in Sweden. It's a kind of system to 'encourage' (can't think of a better word for it) young people and young families to buy their own places. It's like a mixture of state controlled pricing and market pricing. It's like how student accommodations have slightly different taxes.. and elderly homes.. basically it's a jungle.

Yeah, it wasn't written on your forehead using a speech bubble, then it just can't be of any value, right? Oh, and it was in Fallout 3! Then it's automatically ****, even though a million people seemed to appreciate it. Which of course says nothing because they're not you.

I think housing prices are a little different here in Europe. I mean, I have a friend who bought a one room apartment (28 m2) for $200,000.

Velvet Assassin comes out this week.

Kaftan hasn't paid for a game in years. -
That is not crap at all. In fact, I can't think of any title that setup couldn't run. Even Crysis will look good on it (1024x768)! I would still recommend XP, at least until the reviews come in for Windows 7. But I am partial against Vista so.. Edit: Oops, I read cheap as crap.. Anyhow, uh, yeah.

The problem with Macs is that they're usually on the verge of being outdated at the time of sale. Then comes the problem with non-interchangeable parts and you're stuck with what you got. 'Fortunately', Macs are not really used for gaming and this is where ageing technology usually shows its deficiencies.

Was reading an article about the Washington - Pittsburgh series and they mentioned this: Holy crap, that was close. "I'm big Russian machine, I won't break". YEAH RIGHT.

Sorry about the lame post. I missed the game too. By the way, bring back Jagr to the Rangers? Not very likely, it seems. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=277073

I could definitely have used some of Shryke's skills tonight. I ended up guiding two of my female frienda home instead of hitting on any ghirls. I'm OK with it, but still.. If I had done better earlier, I wouldn't have been there for my girly friends and at home bumpiung ugly.

Feel free to share a little, I'm interested. I have nothing to play at the moment. -
Bethesda keeps a log of whatever you did to receive a warning/get banned. It's very easy to show proof that you were wrongfully banned if you really were. Look: I'm innocent!

Oh, speaking of lights! I would love to see a level of darkness at night as seen in the STALKER games, where you saw NOTHING during night time unless you had a flashlight or nightvision goggles. It was incredibly atmospheric and really made the nightvision goggles useful (in most other games they just turn a blueish screen green). Also, several different nightvision goggles would be cool, so you can upgrade your view of the world around you. I don't think I've seen much of that in any game (except for in Deus Ex, but then it wasn't a piece of equipment..).

Why would it sound stupid? That's one of the main points of having sandbox, exploration-heavy games. I'm playing Gothic 3 right now (even though I recently finished it) because I realized that after you found like.. 48 (or something similar) of a certain type of chests in the gigantic land, they start giving you amazing items. Yesterday, I finally found a blueprint for the best one-handed sword in the game. This is after 200+ hours of playing! I had great fun trying to create/find the ingredients to forge that weapon.

CAR vs. BOS: I didn't believe in Carolina in the first round, I don't believe in them now. Chara will not let this go beyond game 6. WSH vs. PIT: This one is tough. One star against two. But Washington as a team looks more balanced and Varlamov has looked great in goal. I have to go with Washington in.. 7. ANA vs. DET: Who the hell is Jonas Hiller?! The Big Red Machine will roll over him, Detroit in 5. CHI vs. VAN: Speedy youngsters but Mats ain't done yet. Vancouver in 6.
