Audio Tweaks and suggestions
LadyBugWins replied to LadyBugWins's topic in Grounded: Feedback & Suggestions
".....you fuzzy death ball.....?" Oh, now you've hurt Ralph's feelings. It's enough that his lovely rock den has been reduced to a hole in the ground when the Devs flattened his charming rock roof, then crowded his sleeping quarters with quartzite chunks so every annoying brat in the neighborhood will show up at his doorstep with that greedy gleam in their eye, armed to the teeth and waving a new shiny sword in his face (home invasion anyone?)....but now we're down to name calling. Really.....you should be ashamed. Can't a poor wolf spider take a nap in peace anymore? (Respectively, Ralph's friends and associates.) PS: George and Stanley give your jump/scar a nine out of ten. They are rather proud of their Banshee scream. Works every time. -
These are just a few minor adjustments: -I really enjoy the pond sound effects a lot....the lapping water and underwater ambiance especially. It is also helpful to hear when the boatman/tadpole/quoi fish are nearby. However, their movement and underwater 'choir practice' should sound.....well.....under the water. Same audio, but a softer/muted version.....until you dive into the water. -The most jarring audio is when you take one step into the haze and/or charcoal pit grill area. Leaping Lizards! Nearly had a heart attack the first time I strayed too close while just peacefully gathering sprigs and things. No transition. No warning. Just....BLAM! One foot in/one step out. And the volume just skyrockets. Would be nice to have a softer transition. Maybe use that foreboding night music to give us a 'heads up' and then transition into the original music with a gradual increase in volume. Same audio, just not so.....ear shattering? The vibrations alone rattled the teaspoon in my coffee cup and shook the desktop. -Lightning bugs: need I say more? A constant, irritating whine that never ends until dawn....if you're lucky. Please, can we lengthen the time between their annoying whines or at least lower the volume a bit. They love crawling on the mushroom walls of my castle at night. And there's not a dew collector in game that they do not love to tangle with. Please, I hate to remove them every third night just to get some peace and quiet. Audio I love: Pond ambiance, Sandbox nights, daytime music, the original night music, under the hedge and picnic table music, small critter attack music, the pop of spider webs being placed, the sound of grass as larger critters walk through them and so much more. Love this game! What are your favorite audio sounds?

PS: Just discovered the "hold e and retrieve all" mechanics added with the update! Brilliant! Saves time. Quick and easy. Another favorite thing. Still would like to use the 'e' key for closing the furnace/grinder/spinning wheel after adding items. Using esc key is still less efficient and awkward. We close trunks and baskets with the 'e' key. So this would not be hard to change back. Thanks for a wonderful game.

Oh.....the horror! Please....oh, please.....no fat, child-eating, base destroying frog near my lovely lily-pad villa! It's enough I have to share the neighborhood with three nasty mosquitos and listen to the tadpole quartet choir practice (night and day), without a bloated bull-frog landing on my house. Take pity! The pond is a tranquil, lovely resort where I can chill out after a hard day of fighting. Watch the sun set. Down a few smoothies and relax. Though.......come to think about it........a peace-loving 'smallish' new neighbor who eats mosquitos for a living.......now that would be delightful. Welcome to the neighborhood!

Totally agree.....this game is amazing. Visually stunning. Combining adventure, exploration and crafting with a high level of re-playability. Would love to see it continue.... both in content and storyline. The developers never disappoint. Always listening to the community, improving and fixing whatever is necessary to polish this game to its final release date. Hope this is only the beginning. Can't wait to see what's next.

Oh, dear.......I was stopping by to add to the list......but you have covered nearly everything I have been wanting to see implemented in the game since first stepping into Grounded. Well done! A few suggestions: boats.....those small canoe shaped leaves that dot the landscape near the berry bush, a paddle made from the boatmen's flippers, or use the floating platforms as a raft. And we are good to go! A chest made of scrap metal from the oak tree lab, add ice and we have a mini ice chest. Cool! Sleeping bag to carry with you for those long journeys that require a sleep over along the way. A new carry bag or shrunken lunch-pail, with a separate inventory row for food/smoothies/bandages. (Could be only three or four slots, but like the equipped armor and weapon slots....so needed. Oh, yes.......the inventory nightmare mechanics has got to change. I haven't watched anyone playing Grounded on You-Tube yet that hasn't come across this annoyance. (Usually with a few growls and moans to accompany their frustration.) Perhaps the top row being set aside for designated slots....those we equip and unequip most often, so that one stray sprig we picked up by accident doesn't stray into our favorite crossbow spot. If its on our quick-bar, it should have a designated home. Just a thought. Have fun!

A bathtub or shower......great idea. Outhouse. Sink. Toilet. Curtains made from petals: different colors. Floor mats and rugs. Frig.....keep those dinners fresh! A scab that tells time and can be set to a certain hour for sleeping. (Beep....beep.....) I would also like to sit in chairs (first person) where you can actually look around while sitting. (I'm getting a stiff neck every time I take a break! Can't enjoy the view!) And sitting in the hot springs would be nice as well.

PC/Single player/Mild A few suggestions. 1. Choosing mild for a beginner is a wise choice. Get to know the gameplay/controls/environment first. Then try normal. 2. Don't rush the game. Play with the long view in mind. If you can't survive an area, avoid it. Don't try to complete everything at once. Take time to build your way around, over or through difficult terrain at a safe distance from enemies. There are many ways to complete a goal without staring eye to eye with a wolf spider at every turn. Think outside of the box. If something isn't working, try something else. Or wait until you are stronger and have better equipment. 3. Observe, observe, observe........stop the mad dash through the grass once in a while. Stay still. Listen. Take time to actually see and hear what's moving around you. Notice the pattern of an Orb Weaver's path. The pop of a web being placed. The sound of grass being pushed aside. The glint of Dew Drops above. The buzz of a mosquitos' wing. The surest way to become someone's meal is to run around like a mad rabbit or a crazed grasshopper. You will also miss those hidden areas and secrets in the blur of green as you rush pass them. Unless you've been spotted by a Wolf Spider, that is......then RUN! Just RUN! 4. Rocks are your friends. Tall wooden sticks. Posts along the pond. Nothing is more satisfying that looking down upon an enemy and raining arrows upon their heads. Just be aware that some spit acid and webs at you. Acid is to be avoided. Webs? How many do you need for that zip line or new bow? If you judge the distance just right, you'll be out of range but they will still decorate the area with thrown webs. Cool. Enjoy. When the game first started, we had to hack at the webs on the ground with Orb Weavers nearby. Don't know how long I had to use the sprig bow before I worked up enough courage to try. (Shudder: bad memory.) And lastly, just enjoy the game the way you want to play it. Don't like the constant battles, goop and gore.......build a mansion on a lily pad and just chill out near the pond. Can't or don't want to fight the Brood Mother high up in her Web Castle in the Gloom and Doom. Let her live 'happily-never-after' far, far, far away from you. You can always wait for another (new and improved) whack-them-over-the-head-weapon in the next update. Love the Death at Every Corner Challenge.....there is always Wow mode. Is the game perfect? Well, it's getting there. There are many tweaks and changes we are all looking forward to.....but you cannot please everyone. At least the Obsidian team listens to our ideas and feedback. Which is leaping mountains better than other game developers. Perhaps a little less pain for our new players just starting out? That might be a good thing for them to consider. Other ways to improve lower end armor and weapons without climbing two cliff walls, crawling through hot coal with death by sizzle and two wolf spiders nearby? Definitely.

Just a few small adjustments that could really help improve PC players gameplay. Some were already implemented in game, but for some reason have been discarded in the update. One: Spinning wheel operation: e/w/e......open, retrieve, close. It's quick and efficient. Add items with the space bar. Close with the e key. The change was to discard the e key and use esc instead. This is awkward and slows down the whole process to a crawl. Left hand has to leave the a, s, d, f home row and reach hard left to the top of the keyboard for every spinning wheel. A small change that seems unimportant until you have to spin great quantity of grass rope for that sky bridge that crosses the entire garden. (Sprigs and rope! Never enough when you need them)! Two: consuming food/smoothies/bandages. Mouse click to choose/space bar to consume. Easy. Efficient. Intuitive. This was changed in the Hot and Hazy update. Again....not sure why it was changed, but Willow almost died that morning why I tried to figure how to feed her a stack of mushrooms. Still can't rebind Enter to Space Bar. Double click works only one out of three attempts. Reaching across the keyboard for the Enter key is clunky and inefficient. (PC players like to keep their right hand on the mouse at all times and left hand anchored on the home row with the thumb on the space bar). It's just a habit, but one that has proved very useful over many years of gameplay. These two changes could really be helpful. Sometimes it's the little things that count. Thanks for a great game. Really enjoying the new content!

Main Quest lines: Continue the investigation of the storyline. (I miss following all the clues and discovering what really happened to the kids.) Find a cure for the infected critters and stop the spread of the infection. Fix B.U.R.G.L's lab and seal off the breach into the oak tree. Cleaning out the labs and reset the lasers. Restoring the Kids to their normal size. (Final quest.) No hurry.....we love the game and want it to continue for a long, long adventure.....but, eventually, the story needs to lead somewhere. Daily Quest: Allow the quests to level up with the player....more variety, new crafting materials, inventions and more exploration. Just a few suggestions.

Nothing like a peaceful afternoon spent gathering sprigs around a tranquil toadstool oasis.....the sun bright and warm in a fair blue sky.....with a happy rolly-polly clicking contentedly to herself as she wanders aimlessly through the clover beds. Ah.....yes. Grounded at its best! Add a couple of butterflies and a curious inch-worm or two, a slow moving snail and a......well, any creature that does not spit, hiss or bite. Yep.....we need more peaceful friends and safe harbors to counter balance the 'death around every corner' and 'I am so gonna die' moments in the game. Thanks, Obsidian! For providing both. (Though......a bug spray would be nice. To keep those pesky fireflies from coming around at night and keeping me awake. Haven't slept a wink since I moved into my castle. What is it about mushroom walls, anyway? They can't seem to resist them. Or the dew collector?) Anyway.....just a few suggestions!

Yes....I agree! Especially when using the mushroom arches. Sometimes you come up 1/2 a wall short with nothing to fill the gap. Usually try to tuck in a pillar. But, then again, Pillars do not line up with walls. They are always in front or behind.....never flush. Having the half floors has really helped to finish a build; triangles are a problem sometimes. The Obstruction red zone shows up when there is nothing obstructing the placement. Then you try another triangle made from a different material and......it works? Clover verses weed-stem. Grass will fit, but not clover. ECT. Curved walls often do not want anything connected to them. Hard to build a tower in a castle if you can't connect a wall to it. It's hit and miss. Works one time; won't the next. If it's barely touching, there should be a way to override the obstruction rule. That will return the 'fun' in building. Just a suggestion.

Feedback on combat changes in PTS 0.12.0
LadyBugWins replied to nsand85's topic in Grounded: Feedback & Suggestions
A Wolf Spider will interrupt a slow weapon (however mighty) before it ever gets to that third swing. Death by Slow Mode. Oh.....I'm so looking forward.......Nope! A hard pass for me. Sounds great on paper.....until you're eyeball to eyeball with the new and improved (spoiler) Wolf Spider who gets in 5 blows at a time....Then all bets are off. (And this is on Mild?!) Lady-Bug preserve us! We're all doomed. -
Well......we could just poke the ox beetle with a splinter and see what happens. Or sneak up on the (spoiler) wolf spider and tap him on the shoulder....ah, no......hit him with the new and improved lvl 9 Antlion Greatsword and see which method ends in our swift demise the fastest. Death by no stamina. Or Death by slow mode. Your choice. I prefer to remained in total bliss and utter ignorance of all things violent and stupid. Now, I'll have to go visit Charlie (the wolf spider) and warn him of the sad news. Hate to. He gets so grumpy when someone interrupts his nap. (SIGH) But what are friends for?
-
Agree. Every area in the yard should have enough resources to keep playing in that location. Maybe not in great numbers. But enough to keep going without having to carry two tons of food with you. Especially when heavy fighting in a new area leaves you at '0' on your hunger wheel, miles away from your base and with no options but to leave and continue the adventure later. Either reduce the hunger loss or increase the resources around us so we can concentrate on the fun and less on the frustration. Yes.....planning is necessary. And yes......meeting challenges is part of the game. We understand and appreciate the delicate balance between all of these things. But lately, the balance is tipping a little too heavily on the death-defying challenge of staying alive and too little on the adventure. So.....in short. "Where's the Beef!" No.....I mean.....Meat!

Yes. Yes. And yes! All those lovely new meals......gone by mid-afternoon. What a waste of material and time. Love the concept. But those neat little packages should preserve the meals for at least two days. A frig should keep them longer. That would reduce the grind. (Oh, the constant and never ending grind!) Too much of a good thing......is still too much. Love the gathering, chopping and hauling. But, make it worth our time. Perhaps......a large bag of ice? We've got the grill. The picnic table. Soda. Food. Why not ice? Just a thought. Have fun.

into the woods weapon nerfs.

Just watched the same video. Felt my little heart take a plunge off the picnic table without a prayer of surviving the fall. No Tuff. No tall blade of grass to break the fall. Nothing but empty air between my wee 'tick-tock' and the rushing on-coming turf of the new update. If you listen very carefully, you can almost hear the quiet.....little.....splat! (SIGH) What's a Lady-Bug gonna do? Now.....the nightmare begins. Days upon days of grinding. Death by slow mode. Goop Galore. "I've fallen and can't get up!" Might as well tickle the Wolf Spider with a splinter than use the new lvl 9 antlion sword. No sneak attack. The first blow is a small tap on the shoulder. Well......we might as well just leave him with a blanket, tuck him in (wherever), and tiptoe away. "Nighty-night, Charlie." And...."Tell your friends in the new update......have a nice life. I'm going to chill out near the pond and down a few smoothies. No worries. Not from me. I can always add another room to the manor. A new balcony. Spruce the place up a bit. I'm in no hurry." Have fun! -
let us build on the sand box.

Invalid surface. Not supported. Obstructed. And now.....Land rights? Unless the developers intend to build other content in these areas, we should be free to build anywhere in the yard. On any surface. Without restrictions that do not make any sense whatsoever. The frustration with the building restrictions is the inconsistency of when and where they occur. Don't mind having sensible rules to follow. Like building a wall too close to an item that uses the same space. Ok. Move the chest. No? Move the lamp. Still red? Ah....the Purple Chair is too close! That did it. Build the wall. Then scoot the chest back. The lamp. The chair. Ah... that's better. (Thanks Obsidian. Moving furniture was the best idea ever!) Make sense? Sure. But not being able to build a blueprint for a support embedded clearly into solid rock is frustrating. Not supported? Ah.....hate to break it to you, but....ah....it is the support. Embedded in rock. Oh, not a problem. Just build everything else floating in air and then you are allowed to place the blueprint for the support and build it. Last. Oh boy.....I hear a smoothie on the rocks calling to me. Need to chill out near the pond. No. I forgot.....The Tadpole Quartet is having a rather loud session of How to drive Willow Crazy Musical beneath my lovely lily pad mansion. Perhaps I'll go visit my friend George (the wolf spider). Haven't seen him lately. I actually miss him. Have fun everyone! -
Yes.....this appears to be random. Played yesterday. Checked a few items that I repaired and placed in baskets. Some in chest. Some on displays. Saved. Reloaded. Everything seemed to be holding out ok. Then checked a basket with new tuffs and found them all at half health. Fortunately.....at least, so far......all the gear stripped down to half health have stayed that way. No further deterioration. Whew......hope that doesn't change. We'll see. Now.....onto other matters. Moving doors, disappearing wolf spiders, tadpoles taking up choir practice (rather loudly) beneath my lily pad mansion, fire-flies moaning the whole night long perched on my castle walls and Obsidian's brand new CRACK-Whoosh-THUD that welcomes you back every single time you load in the game or reload a save. Ah....the joys of the great outdoors. Think I'll take a break and go fight some dragons for a while. Clear my head. See ya later.....(Oh...you know I'll be back by lunch time. This game is just too addictive!)
-
I posted a comment on You Tube about this problem and got a reply with a work-around. Haven't tried it yet, so forgive me if it doesn't work....but one comment said to put all gear in a basket before leaving the game. If this works, we'll have a way to continue playing without constantly repairing our gear or loosing it entirely. Hope this works. Can't hurt to try. Have fun everyone.

Hey, Johnny. Just a follow up. "Clearing your space...." just means any space you deem important enough to keep clear of grass. Or at least, that was what I meant. And, sometimes.....after an update......that could mean up through your floorboard, obstructing your grass walkway or growing through a pebble stone bridge or foundation: places that never had grass growing before. (Bigger, thicker and more abundant than ever.) You can and should expect new growth behind the construction line, but this is not often the case. And you are absolutely correct.....never build on the ground if you can help it. Most of my glorious homesteads are located on rocks, wooden posts and on a lily-pad. If they introduce frogs.....Ladybug preserve us!.....I am gonna cry.

Ah....the joys and frustrations of a new update! Here's my priority list of fixes. 1. Now that the sound of a falling shovel has been fixed, can we please cancel the opening Crack-Rumble-Thud each and every time we enter the game. That would be lovely. 2. Deteriorating health of all armor, weapons and gear not worn or in inventory. If they are in a chest or mounted on walls or displayed on an armor dummy, the health meter for those items are falling at an alarming rate. Priority Fix please. 3. Opening doors? Oh, no......!!! So spiders can now climb stairs? Brilliant! But I draw the line when it comes to opening doors and gates without permission. Now that is just plain rude. Please help. Poor George---my wolf spider friend---got out of his lovely den yesterday, went on a walk-about only to return to find the open gates closed tight. He was so sad. And he gets cranky when he doesn't get his three day nap. 4. Monster Grass re-spawning way too often and into/through surfaces. Yep. Cut one blade down. Uproot it. And by the time you've finished clearing your space, you turn around and face-plant into the same blade once again. Not only that....but three of his cousins have returned as well. Down! Bad Grass! 5. And lastly.....The ghost door in my castle. I know it's Halloween. But really? I just opened you a moment ago, facing outward. Now the curved mushroom brick half door has changed position, opening inward. Hmmmmm.......is that how George is getting out? Curved doors? Spooky!
-
Nicholas, I went back to all my bases and checked. Even the armor that were placed on Armor Dummies and Weapons that placed on wall mounts have loss over half of their "health". And my trident has disappeared from the wall mount entirely. I repaired most of them and will check back to see if this is a one time thing or a continuous problem. In the meantime, I'll have to carry my favorite armor and weapons in my backpack until this is fixed. Doesn't leave much room in inventory for gathering resources, but it will help prevent continuous repairs and deterioration of what I need to use right now. It's either that, or stop playing for a while until they fix this. And just when I was having so much fun with the new content. (PC/Single Player/Mild)
-
Oh I am so glad someone else noticed this as well! Thought I was loosing my mind or had a ghost running amuck in the castle. Its the curved mushroom half door. Right? Same thing is happening with the curved gate double weed stem doors......opening and letting the wolf spider (George) outside of his pen. Built a nice enclosure for him. (He'd rather sleep all the time anyway). But since the update....he's out, he's in, the gate is open, then its closed. First there's one spider in and another outside trying to get in. (Ralph likes to visit George from time to time.) Then suddenly both are inside and sleeping like babes......With both sides of the double curved weed stem doors wide open. Hope we can get this fixed. (Wolf spiders do get cranky when they can't take their naps on time.)
-
Thanks, friends. I was a bit worried about this. Put a lot of time and effort into the game since the update. Don't want to loose all my progress because of this new glitch. Having a lot of fun, but still......(sigh). Take care everyone. I'm sure Obsidian has their hands full right now. But they always come through.
