I did that bit last night, same opinion too, I've thrown a good five or six hours into the game tonight, 33% explored and 28 hours in, which brings me to a question, this world explored statistic, I'm guessing it means locations found and not general progress, anyone know for sure? Either way this bodes well for a mammoth game by my standards, easily over 100 hours I'd guess. Also, keeping in mind I've not visited the elves, dwarves or mages, how do I keep stocked up on health potions? The shops seem to take ages to restock and there's only so many elfroots around.
  2. There was a pretty big backlash on the prerelease forums so if people are still annoyed with it I'm sure modders will find a solution, or maybe Bio will add a toggle to disable them, if EA allow it that is.

I dunno, the NPC for Warden's Keep turns up in your camp pretty much right away, and he had me going with his tale of betrayal and a potential journey to Soldier's Peak, I didn't know this was the location of the DLC so I decided to agree to help and bang, do I want to purchase the DLC? To be fair I do want to purchase the DLC, and I will...but I hated the way it's introduced.

  5. Torchlight, Sanitarium, Fallout 1, X-Wing Alliance and Oblivion (yeah yeah, I suck, mods improve the game etc), all of which I *need* to complete before Dragon Age comes out.
  6. It is, but as far as I'm concerned non-linearity is not really correlated with fun. Yeah, I thoroughly enjoyed the original COD and MOH games before they started overusing the setting, linearity isn't a problem at all if the game is fun.

Though that's just reminded me of a mental oddity, I stopped playing Syndicate after my granddad died, I was playing it a lot the day afterwards and every time since it just reminded me of being miserable. So the emotion of one real life death easily trumped the hundreds of innocent people I gauss gunned into the pavement of a game, hmm Still I don't know how I feel about this game without knowing more about the context, I'm generally suspicious of the **** YEAH!! type games where giving hand relief to anyone in a uniform gets you an achievement. Peace.
  8. When I was a kid I used to enjoy gunning down the pram pushing mothers in Syndicate...good times.

  11. After spending a good few hours on it today that's how I feel, It's a blast but it probably won't last forever, random dungeons or not. Two or three playthroughs are a certainty though, and of course this MMO project has to be tried when it's available. Still, it's really addictive, and I can't quite figure out why I *need* to keep grinding, feels good though

  14. Yeah I felt a similar sensation when I tried to play WOW, it's not my cup of hot, steaming turd either.
  15. Most RPGers I speak to prefer the early stages of a game, the world seems more alive and menacing when you're having to scratch around for useful loot. Eventually though you've got to become a walking death machine, if only for the feeling of achievement. Fallout 3 plateaus too quickly though, in my opinion.

Yeah, I ended up keeping all but one or two of the unique weapons in the Megaton shack, simply out of an OCD desire to keep them all...mostly I just killed a couple of things with them and forgot they were there. Still, in these open worldy games there's a very good chance you will find some of these "useless" weapons earlier on in your game, when they're far more handy, but once you've got a couple of the really potent weapons 90% of anything you find after that becomes redundant. I suppose this is a problem with modern RPGs in general, perhaps having certain enemies taking noticeably more hurt from differing types of damage could help a few weapons keep their usefulness
  17. The stylised WOW type visuals don't appeal to everyone and I can sympathise, the game is quite satirical though, having missed out on the Diablo games in my teens I probably can't appreciate the change but so far it's not exactly a dark fantasy
  18. I just had a quick look, seems nice and laid back to me, none of that hyperactive bull****, just a vast dark room and nerds

To be honest the only times when weapon and armour degradation really pissed me off is when I got brand new stuff like Operation Anchorage quest rewards, watching pristine (and kick ass) equipment degrade so fast and having to rely on the repair merchants due to the uniqueness of the items was a bummer. I can accept that the ****ty rifle I just found in a box, in the middle of a ruined building, might not last as long as an untouched rifle found in a locker at a military base.
  20. I managed to grab the installer from...elsewhere. I just finished a quick run around before I go to bed (nearly 5am here) and I like it, cheap and cheerful, you want to keep chasing the barrels and smashing stuff so it works for me. Also the music is really nice, it reminds me of old school Lucasarts games somehow, am I remembering correctly that the dungeons are semi randomly generated? They seem nice and coherent to me so far
  21. Gah, after waiting five hours the file stopped downloading...this is one of those rare occasions where I'd recommend Steam over a direct download
