  1. Bethesda the publisher, not Bethesda the developer. It's Arkane, the Dark Messiah of Might & Magic/Arx Fatalis folks that developed it, with the help of ex-Deus Ex Harvey Smith. In other words, a pretty solid team. That said, Bethesda hasn't been the greatest publisher in the past, so I could understand wanting to get some solid feedback on the final game before jumping on it. Yeah, definitely talking about the publisher part. I preordered the PS3 version, and their work on PS3 has been anything but stellar (including timed x360 exclusives). Also, the studio seems to be Freeeench and hasn't shipped a game since 2006. Still, I'll continue on my stupid "if it looks like it's a game in an overlooked genre I would like to see more of, I'll preorder it in the hopes that publishers will see the appeal" approach.
  2. On the republic side, the boredom of Alderaan finally overtook my OCD.
  3. Probably doesn't like the https there.
  4. Played some yesterday. Doing a bonus series, so feels a bit too close to work for comfort.
  5. If Powell's leg hadn't blown out, it would've been 8 guys under 10 seconds.
  6. Bethesda is trying to balance being good with DLC and generally decent with DRM (Steam is not the worst solution, though hardly the best) with some truly excruciating pre-order bonus stuff. If it's like New Vegas it shouldn't matter much on the long run though. It's a Bethesda game? I wonder if I can still cancel my preorder.
  7. Groan, that's even worse than what Bio does these days. Incredibly stupid system.
  8. Exchange on a filthy social media site (facebook). Dude1: I'm trying to think of something that seems as completely useless when you don't have one and as indispensable when you do as an iPad Dude2: So it's kind of like having a girlfriend, but in reverse?
  9. I think some of you are missing the undertones in the video, as pointed out in the title card and the comment section.
  10. I think you're misremembering. It still manages to be worse than the previous two, so you're right in that sense.
  11. I guess calling your guerilla marketing "viral" when it's, well, anything but, still seems impressive to the MBAs who give you your bonuses.
  12. Good choice(s), sir. Especially the Monty.
  13. Heh, turns out I'm in warranty. So somebody else gets to poke into the aluminum cube and replace the hd for no additional cost to myself. Trying not to fistpump too much until I've actually gotten it back, can't remember getting the extended warranty so have to account for them looking at it wrong in the shop. Edit: Oh look, I did get it back in the day. Should've probably checked it first instead of whining and moaning for a day.
  14. What would I do if I didn't have Tigranes around to translate my meaning into human-understandable form. Though I have to say that even having listened to quite a few studio headphones, none of them are even close to a pair of Genelece 8050As. Have never heard the Sennheiser Orpheus, though. Kind of hard to lug around, at any rate.
  15. I think you have a lot of unexplored potential on that front.
  16. It (the corruption of the Winding Water from Boaresky Bridge onwards) was a story hook left to DMs during the 3e Dungeons & Dragons period, after which they basically nuked the whole setting. It's actually really close to Baldur's Gate, so it would allow the series to touch on the location that gave it it's name, as well.
  17. Pets and women, the higher maintenance, the better. Women are also like ties, you don't really know how good they are until you've tied them up.
  18. ... you know professional musicians use IEMs for monitoring, right? The size of the "hardware" has nothing to do with it, they use your (sealed) ear canal to create the bass. Sure, it's not a 10kw club pa, but they are at least on par with my sennheiser hd580s.
  19. Htpc/light gaming rig's been acting weird for a couple of days. Thought it was a compatibility problem with the new OS. Was wrong, HD s.m.a.r.t. is "failing". Now mildly wondering how ****ed the thing is due to my backups being from an OS installed on a failing hd.
  20. in-ear monitors are really your only alternative for portable audio - if you haven't found any, you just haven't looked far enough. Or you haven't gotten a good fit, and need custom molds. Or koss porta pros. If there's anything close to good compact wired solutions, I'd be colossally surprised.
  21. Do it for the water. The blue water, not the green one. Remember, these are people who left Bioware to work on better games.
  22. Zoooooooooooom. That's a neat feature they're including. Doubt I'll use it, but it's still neat. Remember me if you ever consider multiplayer. I'll be with you on supporting it. I like the concept of environmental audio on a modern OS, and on a personal level, since I have this thing hooked up both to a tv and closer range monitor, the widescreen mod has always been a pain to use. I always moved MP-created files into SP, so I never had to deal with the pause bug, but I'd assume some people would be happy to see it gone. Personally am finding a lot of the engine level improvements worth my dime alone... the new content really doesn't seem incredibly inspired, so I see Tigranes' point on that front. Will give them the benefit of the doubt that it plays better than reads, though.
  23. An up-to-date (for the moment) feature list for BGEE: http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/2041/bgee-please-read-list-of-things-that-have-been-announced A thread that gives you some ideas on what they're trying to do to improve the game at the engine level and still maintain compatibility with regular BG: http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/245/flipbook-animation-transparency Again, you may consider me a fool for wanting to support a project like this, but I personally consider these people a sound investment, certainly at the $ 40 level that also gets me two new versions of a game I really dig.
