MC; I feel the need to remind you that US' and Commonwealth's economic strangleholds on Germany and Japan were the main background reasons of the war. (Yes they are classified as 2 seperate wars but the causes and effects are really tightly interlinked.) Japanese might be a feudal / fascist / alien country at the time (they are still somewhat alien to european and middle east cultures) but "Backward militaristic monarchy attacks democracy" is just too broad and not really correct.

To be hoınest, I don't really care about FO3 mods because I don't care about the game. It is a very nice toolbox but thats all it is (and using the Fallout name without any decent content is a negative point for me. The only "decent" content it has is Pitt and Lookout storylines, which are both dlc packs / mods themselves). Since we have 0 feedback except the fact that devs "do" read our comments, all I / we all forumites can do is to list the things (within reason and time budget) we would like to see in the game and hope that my suggestions, everyone's suggestions for that matter, affects the development just a tiny bit to make the game better.

A spare parts system would be nice. I know it is a bit unrealistic but if the random encounters only yielded scraps (pieces of armor or leather, a barrel and a few bolts in a dcent shape and so on) it would reduce the "too much items" feeling.

Not really MC, Most of the EU theater is actually unknown to most people. We are only "fed" the most flashy bits. Not one of the flashy products tell us what goes on in Scandinavia or Balkans or even France at the time of (Bastagone) German counterattack. If they were serious about characterization, S & H could have taken it a bit slower, making each phase a bit longer (2 or 3 episodes per battle) and less flashier to give us the chracters. Also as you mentioned, the whole thing is too clean. No snipers, no real ambushes, no traps, not one bit showing the hell that a jungle can be. *Btw, I loved the unrelated pro-Greek propaganda in episode 3. I wonder why they had to mention false and propaganda material concerning Anatolia 1922 in a show that focuses on Pacific 1940.

MC; to be frank, I don't think it is possible to make a BoB that explains what happened in the Pacific theater because aside from the aircraft carrier groups, the whole war was a series of small to medium actions (compared to other ww2 actions) that were unrelated to each other in the tactical scale. There isn't a single thread to follow so the story gets tangled or unrevealed too much. If you are intrested, the best "single story" about Pacific that I read is John Toland's "Infamy: Pearl Harbor And Its Aftermath" It follows the pacific war (mostly) from the viewpoint of Big E (Enterprise). *The looking at Pacific theater as a single entity is misleading, there is the sea/island war, the invasion of Australia, the invasion of Philiphines and lastly the invasion of China.

I am also in the whiskeytangofoxtrot mode. The trailers (that show the gameplay) are good, the company has a "decent" experience in producing "city wide" sandbox games, theiy generally create decent gameplay (that big game will have bugs no matter what they do). Why did they send such a letter. I wonder if that mail is a hoax of some kind or something...

In my country, conscripts are used in the same vein as US uses National Guard. SAR, Forest Fires, Patrolling wilderness, Disaster Relief, Temp solution to unemployment... You learn that most of human population is still under 100 in IQ scale You get to be unpaid muscle (infantry) used for... well whatever is needed . Ranges from construction worker to being a road sign. Or you get ot be a guard at a rural outpost (armor) Or you get to be unpaid rural policemen, usually under a "little" human with big complexes (gendarmerie) Or you draw a really short stick and play target for terrorists (thou nowadays the army is trying not to send green conscripts to problem zones) What does it add to you? some physical fitness, a lot of stress, and a complete loss of faith in most of humanity. And you get to shoot a bit. Like 150 9mm and 30 or so 5.56 in total. And even some Garand too! :D

Sargot, first of all I would like to do you a lot of bodyly harm for shocking me this much. For a moment I thought someone had resurrected Nexus.

Cheesy series but one thing captivated me and had me green with envy back tan. Normal people could fly with helicopters too. Too bad it still costs an arm and a leg and another leg for a licence here.

Tunavich. Canned tuna, cream cheese, some greens a bit of cherry tomato, hamburger bread (the big buns from 2nd or 3rd grade white flour). Somonvich. Replace canned tuna with somon filleto cooked over rock salt. Sweet Coffee (crap nescafe version not the real stuff) with a bit of almonds and nuts.

Yay! Another game that I won't be renting or borrowing. Thank you EA for finally killing the legacy of Tiberium Sun. On a related note, I wish relic good things for their crap of editor (for singleplayer / scripted mission purposes) They (or GW not sure) are so insistent on controlling story related creations that the friggin editor has a lot of features and code ripped out for mod scene release. Another dead game for modding purposes. Same goes for Supreme Commander 2 with it's disabled editing features (the game checks and doesn't start if you have hard code legal (file system wise) mods). The game itself sucks (despite lots of units and detailed maps it feels small, sp is also horrible) but I had hopes as the game as it stands is perfect for a MechWarrior (or Heavy Gear) style Rts. Oh well. So I am still stuck waiting for SC2 and mucking around for UDK. Oh joy...

I know I am bending the rules here (hell I'm trampling and then jumping up and down on it's carcass) but as this (more precisely the concept that this one presents) is my favorite; More precisely; Ergonomically th original G-11 was very very poorly designed. Coupled with its idiotic magazine placement and the bullet cook off problems, it is a dead weapon. However, there are 2 relatively new technologies on the gun technology. The first one is the helical magazine systems, used by Calico and Bizon, this system allows a more practical positioning for the huge magazines. Second one is what I call "the cool chamber". This is the same concept used in HK416, which stops nearly all of the heat transfer to the firing chamber, eliminating the weakest part of the caseless ammo, the cook-off. (Edit: The original G-11 also had a recoil dampening system that produced a similar result to Walshingam's baby so I didn't seperately include it in the list) I think a weapon that incorporates both of these in an ergonomic bullpup sheath would be "the pinnacle" in chemichal powered rifles.

Tavor is a shameless rip from AUG. They basically took an AUG, applied ergonomic improvements, even lighter but still a bit more rugged materials and Uzi based high cycle rated, rugged firing mechanism (not that AUG's was bad mind you. If I am not mistaken it was mainly for cutting costs by using home patents). It is not as quick to service as AUG, but on most of other aspects, it is a bit better. Note: I am not talking about accuracy or stopping power as most assault rifles are in the same range for the first and the second is based on the caliber and the load, not the individual gun. Gorgon: There are other models. The side by side barrel shotguns are not the only option for sawed offs.

(Disclaimer: Most of my knowledge is book learned so to speak as I haven't even seen a SA80 here let alone handle.) Boo: If you look at it's stats in a category basis, it is not so bad, however it has a lot of tiny things that add up to irritation and hate. Also, the rifle had a pretty good overhaul after first gulf war as it's problems become public knowledge 1- Bullpup design. There is a group of people who just don't like it because of this. 2- Bad Bullpup design. Compared to an AUG (which I usually think as the base for comparison), SA80 is the committe designed, lowest bidder cousin. It isn't immidiately apparent but there are a lot of details that makes SA80 hard to operate. For example the magazine reciever is not angled so it is harder to change magazines in some positions, No frontal grip, some ergonomical problems. It is also armory dependant if you need to service it (left handed shooter, chamber problems) 3- Over Engineered and Crude at the same time. I know this sounds weird but the original gun had very little tolerance between moving parts which needed a lot of lubrication and the parts were generally stamped (which isn't a bad thing by itself but decreased the already low tolerances more) In the end, It was a gun that worked but was temperemental. The main blackmark however was Steyr AUG (and later Tavor Tar-21 too) as AUG was about 7 years older, could do a lot of things without needing an armorer, more reliable and easier to use and to make it worse, you could even deploy it as a LMG or Carbine. It wasn't a bad gun. It was just worse than its rivals (FAMAS, Steyr AUG, HK G36, AK 74, AKM)

1- Cats are gone. They all went into soups after the war. For animal companions, I would like them to be tagged "natural" by hostile npc's unless / untill your companion attacks. To be perfectlyy honest, I don't even want companions other than additions to my camp / base. In FPS games a companion needs to be heavyly scripted (like Alyx from HL2) to be enjoyable. In a sandbox games where everything is so fluid, most of the generic npc companions just become a nuisance. (IF there was a possibility to command your companions in a tactical way, like it is done in Brothers in Arms games, then it could be feasible and good. But I don't think there is enough time to implement such a thing on top of all the other fixings Obsidian has to do to get a decent game.) 2- Power Armor with a (basic) sound feedback system? Why on earth would you want a whinning Betty? StealthBoys (Crappy US version of Chinese Stealth Tech) are supposed to be seperate units and the game supports weapon add-ons so it might be possible. OR at least moddable

Wonder how good the editor will be. It is probably going to be a bear to copy all the AC text into the game. I need to find some artists to port the on screen assets too. What a hassle.
-
Edit: 6 Days in Fellujah I think this is what you are talking about Gifted As far as I could find, there are a few sims (A-10, Heli, Tank), A 3rd person Shooter and a Top Down Wargame about the first gulf war.

Sad part about damage types; (I may be remembering it wrongly but I think) Oblivion already supported different damage types like fire, etc, and seperate resistances for them on a % reduction basis. They could have built upon that instead of taking the easy route. Also, as seen from the hillbillies, the game supports + and - damage modifiers. If they had slapped these onto appropirate gear (like Power Armors), we wouldn't be seeing PA troops dieing to BB headshots.

Try to build up a "punch" on the side. A medium sized field army composed of Horse Archers and Cataprachts to punch and Infantry (positioned in defensive arease) to hold can give you a lot of breathing room if you can manage them carefully and keep them alive.

1- The game is Ubi. I am really saddened as Ubi seems to have a lot of good or new things in it's list and the worst Drm policy. 2- The game is primarily MP oriented (Sure it may have a good SP or not as it depends on how missions crafted as the basic game is sound) and as a result no real different sides. It would have been nice to play a ,gear wise, realistic game but it wouldn't be good for mass multiplayer. 3- WW2 is somehow a "clean" war in the minds of masses. Other, more recent conflicts are all evil but somehow WW2 has dropped that mantle so other than niche war games or cheap FPSs I really don't expect to see any after-ww2 conflicts. Besides can you imagine the briefings in ralistic scenarios? For an example google "Battle of Wawon" and just tell me how you could write it's briefing without pissing a lot of Americans or Turks. Same goes for a lot of other potential scenarios. Edit: I gave Battle of Wawon example as it is both a thorny tactical problem and one I am familiar with. Don't read too much into it, there are countless other operations, which cannot be written without pissing off someone.

Infinity Ward founders canned by Activision
cronicler replied to GreasyDogMeat's topic in Computer and Console
I don't get it. Why is everyone so sure that the duo were actively seeking new publisher? What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Also since Activision is digging through everything they can reach and haven't found anything that proves this (that they used to defend themselves), the duo are in the position of being victims at this time. More importantly, what exactly was going to end this year? I recall something about some contract ending around 10.2010 but can't remember. If their contracts were going to end at the end of this year, can you blame or say it was unlawful people for looking at other job opportunities, especially with a boss like Activision? -
But there is a catch Mamolian War, Unlike Ubi Blizzard does have "some" experience with handling massive numbers of players on their servers and setting up servers. The SP aspect and it's connection requirements are still an unknown quality but for Multi, most people were going to use Bnet anyway. I know the following will fall under "trusting a corporation who is there to make money first" but personally I'm expecting an official "lan patch" in a year or so after the game's release. For me, Blizzard's next 2 games (Diablo and Starcraft) will fall under the grey area; Good Game + Control Freak Drm + Good Net Based Support. I'll probably buy Sc regardless of it's Single Player Drm (Galaxy Editor is my main target) but I'll probably wait a bit in case of D3.

I call that extra 0 problem . Seriously, the game (FO:3) says it is 200 years but the envirolment feels 2 to 20 years after the war. Petrified wooden buildings, skeletons, left over food and beverages, not too much ransacked places... When you think of Megaton as a hillfort made by people who weren't able to get into the vault (but who know that it has generators and fabrication units) and decided to wait untill it opens, it makes a bit of sense...
