@TwinkieGorilla : cRPG ? Honestly, I don't know, but tabletop RPG, I can find... Let's see... Vampire the requiem ? Ah, yes, there is an extension (Dead love) only based on romance and why it can perfectly fits with all sort of storyline. Satisfied ? -

Sex and Romance Poll
Lostbrain replied to Troller's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I have wrote a post page 14 where I explicite why romance (with any links between your character and the NPC) are important for the Roleplay. I'won't pollute this tread, but if I read another time "romance have nothing to do with RPG", I surely will repost this post... -

There is no reason to include them. There is no reason to make an RPG. We can now speak seriously, or can I troll again ? (Please, let me troll ! ) -
Sex and Romance Poll
Lostbrain replied to Troller's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well, that is going to be a longer post than those whom I usually wrote in in English, then I hope you’ll forgive the faults.^^ http://forums.obsidi...120#entry725311 I like this comment because it join my point of view. The romances were still never well realized in the RPG. About the last ones from BioWare, they are very bad : you don’t play a romance, you watch it. So I can understand that numbers of people dislike romance. But it is not because a thing is badly made that we cannot improve it. And it is besides why I participated in the funding of the project. Not only to have a RPG old school copied from past glories, but also to have a rpg old school which improves the old concepts. And the romance is a part of theses concept. Because for a CRPG, as a tabletop RPG, I invente the roleplay of my characters. And people can say what they want, but love (and possibly sex ^^) are themes mattering in the life of everybody, and consequently have an implication on the roleplay of a character (unless everybody decides to embody eunuchs, what remains possible^^). Thus, if Obsidian wants to make their work at best, the roleplay in Project Eternity has to consider a lot of elements, including the possibility of a romantic connection (not systematically, and which for example appear only under the influence of precise factors) Because roleplay is about create and develop fictitious links between characters. And romance is an important link. For example, if the player plays in a way that that no character is attracted by him, then no romance have to be forced (contrary to what makes BioWare), but if these conditions are filled, there should be possibility of romance with a specific character (conditions will be different for any character who can have romance.). If obsidian does not know how to make it well, so they just don’t do it (after all, it is better to have nothing rather than a very bad made/written romance). But I would be disappointed that they do not try to make well a thing important for the Roleplay: that would mean CRPG are stagnating, and in that case, so much remaining on the old games. -
Ah, that's true. I've recently play at the original version fo BG 2, and the english voices was soooooo bad compare to the french ones. VO is not guarantee of quality. But I'm not interested in Voice acting, I think the most important is the FIGS of the text, not voice recording in theses languages.

Dialogue Poll

Interesting poll. I'm in favor of the presence of percentage of success's chance, and I was sure this option will win easily. I was wrong^^. -
@Qumi: Because you really think Obsidian will allways make new stuff as the funding increase ? No, they have already a plan (who can change a little, sure) about what they want to do, the size of the game. I think that with the 2,2 million goal, the game is "whole". After, it's time for other feature, like translation, toolset, etc... Look at the Dead State exemple : last stretch goal was about a DLC, not the game!

Sex and Romance Poll
Lostbrain replied to Troller's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Romance are a good thing only if we can really play them, not "watch" them as we can see in Mass Effect. I'm not against Homosexual romance, but only if there is a real reflexion behind them. -
In my mind, that depends more of the time allowed for the work than rather the money spend. For example Baldur's gate and Alpha Protocol french translations were good, but not the Dragon Age 2's translation (but this game was also dash in many ways, so bad translating is unsurprising). If Obsidian give the text "not in urgency", a good job can be done.

Personnally, not interested. But why not if the funding allowed it.

And many people in my (and probably yours) country won't pledge until translations wille be considered as stretch goal. What is the problem if the funding arrive to 2,4 millions ? "More often than not they make up their own lines than really translate the original". I have done little "scanlations" of U.S. comics, and it arrive often that original statement cannot be translate whithout adaptation to the chosen language. That's not change the quality of translation.

I would love play non-conventional race (remember the tieffelin in NWN 2) inproject eternity, but made a great RPG first. Remember : Best RPG ever = Planescape Torment. Characteristic of the game : One class and race for the main character, and only seven compagnon. Not so different of project eternity.

If we reach 2,4 millions $, I think localization in FIGS have to be done. After all, FIGS were early stretch goal in other RPG kickstarter project (Shadowrun returns, etc...). Yes, Dead State don't do it, but this game haven't get so much money as Shadowrun return or Project Eternity. Don't consider Dead State as reference.

I'm not convince that translations have to replace a pre-existant stretch goal, but a lot of great kickstarter project have propose localizations (RPG with Shadowrun returns, adventure games with project Fedoroa & Broken Sword), so I think Obsidian must propose the game in EFIGS (english, french, italian, german, spanish). A consequent number of potential backers wait for a stretch goal annoucement concerning localization for pledge. 2,4 millions sounds good for me.
