He's a national hero here, not exactly sure why over other ones in the past but there you go. A nice slow Monday today, am waffling on my decision to get a Kindle. I might just go half in with my sister and share it and see how it goes, if I like it I'll let her or someone else have it and buy one for myself.

Canadian prisons are a lot like what Hurlshot described US prisons as, I think.

They'll probably win the series too, which will prolong my hell as all media here is a giant circlejerk over the Leafs.

Bouncing around a lot, D3 with friends (co-op is beneficial now, at least in gold and XP) and eventually downloaded GTA4 so am playing around with that as well.

Well, I'd hope those convicted of really heinous crimes end up without privileges like that (if not, well probably should off them then).

Relative 'good' right ? When has the West feared to act in self defense recently ? Certainly gone on adventures in Asia and the Middle East often, for sure, at least militarily.

Pft, this forum's population can hate one another ? Hardly. I mean, someone changed their mind on issue based on some stranger posting stuff on a thread ? Not proper Internet behaviour I don't think any punishment is aimed to help the victims feel better - it's supposed to be a penalty and a way to remove the guilty person from society (well or rehabilitate them in cases when you're not dealing with someone too far gone). I guess they feel bad when the state kills the person out of guilt or something, if they are of the set that feels bad. Some killers really deserve to hang (or much worse, Russell Williams deserves to be experimented on), but I'm against the death penalty slightly due to its finality given the fallibility of the system. And, as I mentioned earlier, keeping them alive with no freedom is pretty harsh.

Went back to my Civ 4 game. Currently wiping out all Japanese and Chinese from the East. Funny in a way to have giant hordes of paratroopers conquer Indochina.

Was surprised at only 37 years, but I suppose as it was just a plan that's not too bad. And pretty much all discussions here are just slugouts, it's mildly entertaining to watch especially if people start to get pissy.

Alright, on our team we insult each other a fair amount with little jibes about being dumb, slackers, etc. so was curious what the remark was to gauge it.

Given circumstances, Exterminatus might not be that repugnant. Unless your Kryptmann, they tend to use that as a last resort when the planet and populace are doomed. Given that the alternatives are being eaten, tortured and your soul eaten or enslaved or just other nasty ways, not that immoral to euthanize people. Maybe.

Well no doubt it's expensive. But capital punishment isn't cheap, have to go through appeals and ensure that you're absolutely as correct as you can be - a very final step to kill someone after all. Sealing someone up in a box for life is probably a much harsher punishment as they have to suffer through a loss of freedom. And you can also work that person as well, although that may drift close to slavery for some.

I've been meaning to rewatch those, I know I enjoyed them as a little guy but about the only thing I can remember about them now is 'Paint it Black' and that Sergeant Zeke was in St Elsewhere (because my mum mentioned it every single episode). Might be time to see if I can find them, and Homicide: LotS for that matter. I found a bunch of episodes here on Youtube, sadly for the DVD release or something they lost the rights to all the period music they used - so no Paint it Black in the intro and alot of the music in the episodes is replaced by some generic riffing.

Locking someone up in a tiny room for 23 hours a day can be arguably worse than death, no ?

Slow day today, but I have tomorrow off, so yahoo. Also, it turns out a photo of serried ranks of skulls from the killing fields of Cambodia is a good way to end an email thread of weird images at work.
