The sale was nice (with the exception of the "Star" system, but I dislike a lot these kinds of lucky bags or pinatas). It reminded me that: -I'd like to buy games on gog for a backup of games I already have boxed -I'd like to buy game elsewhere to have a boxed version of games already got on gog too -I'd like to buy something on my wishlist, planned for a moment -I'd like to buy something new, meaning not planned -I'd like to stop make growing my backlog too much in the mean time I hesitated a lot... But in the end, while I took the Grim Fandango Remastered freebie (as a "backup" of the original boxed), I didn't for Oxenfree, and I bought Hard West with all goodies and DLC instead of buying more to have basic game free (I already have a boxed copy of the game, and I wanted to buy it for many months but always in the fence). And I waited until the end, hoping Thea: the Awakening going on sale too (it was on sale at November, but I wasn't in the mood then), so I bought a french boxed copy, hoping it contains a DRM-free version as it was announced when the boxed gold version was released. Seriously, I'm afraid it hasn't as DRM-free boxed releases are pretty scarce here in France (always envious of german DRM-free releases), but let's keep hoping, no matter what I'll get it discounted on gog next time. So, I succeeded, I guess?

Movies You've Seen (or would like to see) Recently
Huinehtar replied to Rosbjerg's topic in Way Off-Topic
Saw the Last Jedi yesterday too. Tired of these tries to make war funny. And no, all of these tries to make us feel empathy are just... plain and superficial. Coruscant in Episode IV was the Guernica of space fantasy movies. At first it was horrible as idea, and rightfully so. But bloodshed after bloodshed, death star after death star, it is just like all bombing and wars now, 80 years later. Now it's like "Oh? Who cares?", the movie even drives us to the "epicness" of some war B-movies, with no tension about war and suffering. It's all about force, few "heroes" and baddies, and... oh wait, please don't shake the system, do you? This is not only creepy, this just pure madness. The SW could have turned into something more intimate and more crude in the vein of a futuristic Incendies, especially with few themes used in TLJ. But no, it's just a big cinematic trailer for the new Battlefront videogame. With the casino, the movie even has microtransactions... On the plus side, during the scene when Holdo counterattack the FO fleet, during that silent moment, there was someone in the theater who was sleeping and snored very loudly. That succeeded to make a lot people laughing even a bit more during the movie. Oh and in the very second screen, there was a grammar error for the french version. So, that was the movie many SF "fans" wanted to watch instead of Blade Runner 2049? Seriously? -

You give me a time and a place, I give you a five minute window. Anything happens in that five minutes and I'm yours. No matter what. Anything happens a minute either side of that and you're on your own. Do you understand? -

But then is it steampunk or cyberpunk or cybersteampunk? Will it have a secret codename, like Steampunk 1877? -

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - 'NON-FAKE-NEWS EDITION'
Huinehtar replied to Rosbjerg's topic in Computer and Console
Hyped from the start about the project lead by Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, but a bit curious about the game will be distributed (don't want to derail the thread). Take2 have recently worked with Gog, I hope it has worked well, so if the game comes on Gog at release (no doubt about Steam ) I will be happy, if not, well I have learned to wait (in the hope to see it coming later then). Same thing about Linux: if no Linux, I will have to wait for Wine to work it out. So if it has both... *wink* *wink* -

Still with the FMV vibe. "I'll take the drink." So that's a draw. Oh wait. -

What is your game of the year for 2017?
Huinehtar replied to SonicMage117's topic in Computer and Console
I would have said Shadow Tactics - Blades of the Shogun, but it was released on early december last year. Sorry, the backlog is still huge -

Fun fact: when I was young, and at the times I played games like C&C, I promised myself to record all movies from FMV games to compile as a "movie itself". Especially when I played those games on console (on Saturn), so on TV. And I only have recently known that it was possible to extract movies from the PC version's CDs... No need to smash my head against the wall to have video quality fidelity as much as possible via a recorder... Oh well. -

Do you want Alpha Protocol 2?
Huinehtar replied to Marburg's Postman's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I am falling in love with Alpha Protocol, again, and I agree I would love to see a Alpha Protocol 2! "A man can dream. A man can dream." Edit: I notice I have already voted, but I don't remember when. -
First of all, thanks Tigranes for the topic (yes, it's a bit late to say that ) *** SPOILERS INSIDE *** My very first run was years ago, a few months before F:NV released, I used Windows XP then, but I don't really remember what (if) bugs Alpha Protocol had on my computer, but alas, nothing prevented me to play the game through the end, so I don't know differences with my very recent runs. Because I currently play Alpha Protocol on GNU/Linux thanks to Wine (2.0), and I only encountered a few bugs, especially the checkpoint bug, and I empirically believe it mostly concerns a few checkpoints in the whole game: the Bug the Airfield mission in Saudi Arabia - any checkpoint before entering the tower the US embassy in Moscow - namely the checkpoint when we disable the security system After many tries on other checkpoints through the game, I didn't encounter further checkpoint bugs as such. So if saving, the solution was to save the previous checkpoint (for the embassy): the one right after first meeting Surkov. But, then, I encountered a checkpoint bug but not like those, in the embassy, at the very end of the mission: the last checkpoint should be the one in the hall, but if you exit the embassy then through the right door, the game count it as the second checkpoint of the mission (when you convince guards to enter), the consequence is that if you load then, you can go outside the embassy, Surkov and guards are in the garden, but neither the G22 nor the VCI will come (depending the side you chose first). Solution: do not exit through the right door but through the left door at entrance or through the first floor door, or save the normal checkpoint in the hall. I encountered another bug: the flashbang grenades. Even upgraded to v.3, I cannot have 5 flashbangs per slot, but only 3 max. There, I don't know the solution, I had to get used to it, and upgrade the number of slots. Wasn't annoyed because I played a stealthy build, but it could be annoying for a tech build. Although my recent experience of Alpha Protocol bugs have been through playing on Linux via Wine, I don't think these bugs are specific to how I played it, maybe it could help.

Games You Would Like to See as an Obsidian Isometric Game?
Huinehtar replied to DaCobbler's topic in Computer and Console
Maybe I'm partial because I currently play Alpha Protocol and enjoy it again years after the first time, but I would like to have another espionage RPG (sadly not another Mike Thorton story but still). I had thought about this (isometric spy RPG) when Invisible Inc released months ago, and after playing Alpha Protocol once more, I truly think there isn't enough spy RPG (especially Obsidian ones ) ! Like others, I'd like a XIXth century game or (and?) another historical (or history-inspired) RPG. Since the Oasis has been cut from Tides of Numenera, and since it reminded a Leto-II's Arrakeen at first glance during the Kickstarter campaign, I definitely would love to see a proper Dune RPG. One can dream! -

Serious Fighters vs Anime/Waifu Fighters
Huinehtar replied to SonicMage117's topic in Computer and Console
I mean Garu Densetsu Real Bout Special of course! Too bad it had still loadings on Saturn (but absolutely not as bad as NeoGeoCD or Playstation). Thinking of it, many of fighting games I love have good soundtrack (Fighting Vipers and Real Bout Special for instance). And about details, I remember that SNK games had way better shadows than Capcom ones. Capcom ones (from Street Fighter Zero, Marvel Super Heroes... to Vampire Savior, even the almighty SFZ3) only had simple dark disc on the floor as shadow, while the shadows in KoF95+, RB, RBS had full body shadows. Concerning this, it was a huge disappointment for Capcom games at that time, I thought about the 2D Saturn Dragon Ball Z game (like the SNES DBZ games too).- 16 replies
