  1. The engine architecture is likely so horrifically bad that to actually get it running on enough PC configurations to make it a viable product means it's totally not worth it. Rockstar North are the only Rockstar studio I am aware of that's done PC ports consistantly, but then again those guys are pretty much an elitist clique unto themselves, RDR wasn't made by Rockstar North, hence no shock. Porting, BTW, isn't as simple as people seem to think.
  2. Hehe, just keep playing, first a few levels are just "meh" like you said. But then things will get Serious Edit: Ima playing Strike Suit Zero just bought it yesterday, I realized how i missed space sims... Its a bit focused on action but god, action it is. Grand scale battles with multiple objective(that actually hard!) and ability to morph into a robot (GUNDAM!) is really good! Story is a bit meh but gameplay made me forget about it. Also back to Path of Exile, played it a while in closed beta and now in open beta with a new, fresh act. Really good game considering its free to play. A friend of mine was lead programmer on Strike Suit Zero, he's a slight rendering genius - I hear the game is very pretty! With crazy large ships. I remember the fun he had writing a deferred renderer for it , and the shadowing - which nobody had thought about. I haven't played it myself, but it looks like some old skool fun.
  3. I run a Traveller game... Although it's Mongoose rules, it is pretty damn close to classic Traveller - does that count???
  4. Nope, I didn't use party AI - I turned all that stuff off. I enjoyed NWN2 way way more than NWN. Perhaps it's just the party combat system and the reliance upon AI. I'd suggest turning off AI and using pause to issue command queues.
  5. Not really anything to do with Torment, just a game with people who worked on some elements of Torment. It's a bit attention whorey if you ask me.
  6. That'd be called over-engineering lad. Avoid it. and use KISS all the time.
  7. Huh? I was saying I was happy to see the positive reception... I don't see much negativity here.
  8. Well... Nice to see the positive reception .
  9. No love for Godus it seems... Could this be the first Kickstarter fail by someone who is considered to be 'big' in the industry... Oh and no Peter, people aren't pledging because they want to see the game, they're not pledging because they don't bloody trust you!
  10. It was probably a mistake to not have a more powerful CPU, and again Nintendo focus on gimmicky peripherals for core gameplay, pressuring developers to support them. With that install base, with that amount of pain in porting to the Wii U, this isn't surprising. Hardware is not the issue, the CPU has been proven capable by the Wii hacker dude. You only need to look at Pikmin 3's gameplay videos and its pretty obvious that anything that works on XB and PS3 should easily work on WiiU. The issue is the install base which needs time to grow so that the cost of development and the risks undertaken are deemed worthwhile by dev studios. The numbers are looking good so far, but we'll be well into 2013 when they're as good as they need to be for major publishers. That's basically what Reggie Fils-Aime said himself. Not exactly...
  11. Nintendo have never been one to push the hardware angle, with the exception of the SNES and NES. They've actively released under-powered machines (when compared to the competition) since the era of 3D console began. It's clear they have a strategy of using first party titles and gimmick peripherals to push sale, this is combined with a "child safe" image of the console. I would be shocked if they actually did something so extreme as to release a console which blew the hardcore competition out of the water, in a way Nintendo are being smart, they're hitting a child-safe casual market that Microsoft and Sony (try as they may) can't really break into. For those that thought this would be a leapfrog of existing hardware - I never expected it to be - that stuff will probably be coming in the future and if it does it'll be Microsoft and Sony who are pushing those buttons. I don't know much about the Wii-U as a user experience, but I'll likely pick one up, it'll be in addition to my existing Wii (which I actually loved, due to the VC/Gamecube compatibility which really worked well for me).
  12. Well, at least if he's no longer working for Obsidian he's going from one great RPG studio to another. I haven't seen him around the office, well that doesn't mean he isn't here mind... Just don't recall having seen that face around these parts. I'm in a corner, with programmers... We don't get out much.... Potatoes.
  13. http://j.mp/DukeNukem3DFREE Free at the moment!
  14. Yeah, it sucks more when you accept a job specifically because a project looks exciting and promising, and you sign the contract and then they shelve the project. Been there, you ended up on DA so nothing too much to worry about. I actually ended up quitting that job, I didn't sign on for the project I ended up on and I didn't think much of it in all honesty. It isn't the nicest position to find yourself in, sometimes you have to walk away.
  15. It's obvious, but this is Volo... It's either an attempt to troll, or he's showing how inanely idiotically stupid he is again. I'd wager he's trolling.
  16. I don't see any reason why GoG wouldn't distribute it along side other versions... Edit: Apparently due to contract obligations it won't be released on steam or gog.com
  17. Gorth are you originally from the Scandinavian countries? Born in Denmark. Got a bit bored with it. Moved first to NZ and lived there for some years, then later to Australia (living for 6+ years here now). Sounds hot and sunny, hot and sunny sucks...
  18. Oh there will be a massive leap, around the 2nd generation of next gen games. ...which we won't see prior ~2016. My understanding right now is that Next-Gen games currently in development are hybrid titles, being made for High-End PCs (and later ported to PS4/Xbox Next as soon as they have close to final DevKits) and of course current gen consoles, to minimize risk in case people won't immediately switch. You may be spot on sir

  20. I think Overhaul have dropped the ball, they've promised more than they could deliver and now they're being called on it. That's the problem when you revisit such a cherished classic. I would hope they address these issues, but it doesn't look like they will.
  21. I think this tells us that the new generation of consoles are not going to blow anyone's mind. They can make the graphics as powerful as they want but the development costs can only skyrocket. If the major players are playing it safe with every AAA title they sure as hell aren't going to double their investment for much better graphics and sell games at the same price as before. And I don't see a price hike solving the issue. Actually it's a question of tools and technology, and having the correct tools automate the workflows which are the most complex. There are ways to do things which are like a one shot deal, and there are ways to do things which allow them to be repeated. Something like that demo is established very much by a lot of one off code/art etc... They'll have identified the bottlenecks, solved a significant amount of the problems - at least conceptually. Anyways, I never expect launch titles to look that much better than the previous gen, they often don't either. Also, 6 months of planning is in fact a very long time, so actual turn around on the demo was 6 months dev, 6 months pre-pro. And dev team size also is a factor... SO! Yeah, there will be a leap, but it won't be huge and out of the box.
  22. Been a strange year for me, I really haven't bought many games, and if I have bought something - like Diablo 3, I haven't finished it. My backlog is so large, hell I've got stuff from way back in the 80's I'm wanting to play. But I don't really have a game of the year at all... Mass Effect 3 is the only game I've played that came out this year *shrugs*. I'm going to blame it on the fact that I haven't actually had my belongings with me for the last 9 months, and I've moved to two different countries. Been playing a lot of PC games though, mostly GoG stuff...
