  1. Do you know that they're harder to get or are you just talking generally? Krezak said earlier that the driver support for Kubuntu is pretty good, I'm just wondering which version he's talking about.
  2. You seem to have learned what you know about cannabis from american college movies. Alright, so you don't "get" people who occasionally get drunk or high. Fine, but what has that got to do with weed being bad for the user? Or my right to get ****ed up every now and then as long as it doesn't hurt anyone (and weed doesn't). Again this is your bias against drugs. Most people do not agree with you, and think getting drunk or high now and then is relaxing and fun. Just like chocolate or excersize or even sex. I forgive you your ignorance, but cannabis (THC) can be used mixed with food or drink or vaporized, none of which damage the lungs.
  3. Should I go for 32 or 64 bit? Is there a big difference between the two? Is getting 32bit programs to run on 64 bit gonna be a hassle?
  4. Heh, alright. I'll go with Kubuntu then. Can't wait to get home and tinker! Hopefully everything goes smoothly and I don't lose any important files in the process.
  5. Alright, reading some side-by-side comparisons of Ubuntu and Kubuntu I think that KDE is def the one for me. I really dislike the lack of options and the seeming simplicity of OS X so the more complicated the better. I also read that you can install Ubuntu on top of Kubuntu and just choose which one to use on startup. If I do this, will they share installed programs so only the UI is different or would it be more like having two different OS's?
  6. I have ATI, HD 4870 if I remember correctly. It's about a year old so there should be drivers for it, right? I also looked into WINE and both TF2 and L4D, only two games I play at the moment are supported and run well, so I don't have any need for XP really. Photoshop CS2 is supported, too, which is a big plus. Don't know about the rest of CS, have to look into that. Is it possible to download the latest Ubuntu? I'd rather waste bandwidth than plane fuel And if I do download it, do I have to burn it onto a CD or is it possible to install it from a thumb drive? Also I've got two internal harddrives, a 640 gb one and that I have partitioned into 4 different drives and a 200 gb one. Can I just format the Windows partition and install Ubuntu on it with no extra hassle or do I need to format and partition the whole thing again? I've got a lot of important stuff on that those other partitions and can't really afford to buy a new backup external right now.
  7. You're right, my mistake, absinthe did no have a lot of hallucinogenic effects due to the small amount of wormwood used. First of all lol @ that jibe againts pot heads. I've got long hair and I sometimes wear stoner and metal band shirts which are the only two signs that show I'm a stoner. I'm generally succesful, have no problems with daily routines yet smoke like a dragon. Same with most of my friends (which include an actor, a sound engineer, a cameraman, musicians and many people in non-creative industries). Cannabis has been legalized for medicinal use in multiple (not sure how many exactly) states in the US, as well as multiple european countries including Finland. It's got minimal side effects when compared to commonly used opiate-based painkillers and works really well for chronic pain and Multiple sclerosis treatment, as well as depression and multiple other ails and illnesses. The EU conducted a research a few years ago and it showed that cannabis is the least harmful of all recreational drugs including alcohol and cigarettes, and recommended that it be legalized and taxed.
  8. Alright, now with windows 7 out and the support for XP soon over, I decided to switch over to Linux for good. I know most of the stuff I use my computer for (music software & listening, watching dvds, internet) is available and often better than on Windows. Now my only problem is, which distro to use. I don't really know anything about Linux other than the basics, so I'm looking for an easy to install, easy to update yet lightweight distro. The more accessable the better. Also feel free to recommend me free or cheap programs that make using Linux easier or more enjoyable. Games, too.
  9. If by western you mean american which has only been a culture for a counple of hundred years. A lot of different hallucinogens have been used by different cultures all over the world. One good modern example would absinthe, or cannabis in India. You're honestly not comparing weed or magic mushrooms to heroin, are you? Shows what you know... Opiates are completely different from hallucinogens. Weed or shrooms dont get you addicted physically, so they're pretty safe to use now and then. Naturally you can mess up your life with weed, but hey some people obsessively collect star wars memorabilia, some people smoke weed all day. I personally know many stoners who light up frequently yet have a day job, a relationship and sometimes even a family. It's really no different from going to the bar and getting drunk once or twice a month. I mean look at The Netherlands, weed and shrooms are legal yet they're in no worse shape than any western country.
  10. Smoking weed doesn't make you a junkie. Neither does extasy or acid although I don't use either. Cannabis as a recreational/spiritual substance has been around for thousands of years. It hasn't been considered illegal for a century. There's no reason for most hallucinogens to be illegal. From shrooms to peyote to amanita-genus mushrooms (that are very poisonous, finnish/siberian witch doctors used to feed them to reindeer who's metabolism is strong enough to handle the poisons and then drink the reindeers piss that had all of the hallucinogens from the mushroom but none of the poison) have been used for thousands and thousands of years.
  11. I'm playing on hard, maybe i should restart on very hard.
  12. playing as a barbarian (vanquisher?) on hard and while the game is fun, most of the vanquisher skills are plain useless. also the game is way way too easy, i've died once and that was because of a slowdown. but still, this game is well worth the 20bux and will easily satisfy me until D3.

  14. Well for the one cent crowd after transaction costs they have payed some 20ish cents to give you the game. I guess on the low end they consider it an advertising investment to pay to give the game to non-buyers for exposure and so on. After costs? No one is saying they don't know what they are doing... I have no idea what their costs were but the link posted earlier shows the figures. They made A LOT of profit.
  15. I could imagine that if you introduced a limit, people would pay less overall.. As a reaction if you will, to an arbitrary limit. I think that would actually backfire, but that's an assumption, I have nothing to base it on. Make it a hidden limit that you were only alerted to if you tried to go below it, perhaps. That would be cheating. Then it would be pay anything over a dollar.
  16. Paypal would be the easiest way. You can deposit the money you transfer via paypal to your regular bank account. There's a fee (1 euro, probably $1) for transfers under 100 euros. Just make sure you don't mention that you're basically circumventing taxes, they probably won't like that.
  17. I'm sorry but how is it wrong to pay 1 cent for a game that's being offered for pay what you want? I wouldn't have bought it for full price, nor for 5 bucks for that matter. I played it, enjoyed it but it's really not my type of game. I'd say the game is worth exactly 1 cent to me. Also they made over $100k with this experiment so I'd say it was definitely worth it.
  18. I redid it and I got 2700, don't know what I did different in the morning. Applecare probably. Still, 2700 for a machine thats about the same as my year-old self assembled PC that cost 1k is pretty damn expensive. I could get a real monster PC for 3k, probably better than any Mac on the market. My point is, if you want a really powerful supermachine for video editing or similar stuff that needs a lot of power you get a PC with linux. A PC can do everything a mac can, better and at a lower cost. That makes the cheapo macbooks almost worth the money.
  19. I still haven't been abled to actually download the game. I demand my 1 cent back!
  20. Hope they spend my 1 cent on something useful.
  21. I'm sorry Krezak but Macs don't rival PC in terms of power and performance. Just made some calculations on macstore and a mac with quadcore processor (a bit faster than mine but in the same range), 6 gb of ram and the same gpu as my rig is 3000 €. My PC was a little under a grand. So I'd be paying 2000€ for would be the chance to use OS X and sleek design. Doesn't sound too appealing... I do however understand the appeal of macbooks. They're not as radically overpriced, and if they came with a dedicated gpu I'd be temped to get one at some point. But as a work machine a Mac is for the stupid or ignorant. Or filthy rich I suppose.
  22. iPods are actually pretty good if a bit overpriced, but they are very inflexible b/c of the coded firmware and iTunes. Can't comment on iPhones since I've never used one and don't know anything about the competition either, but as a long time user of both macs and pcs I'll say yes, machintosh computer are overpriced and people who buy them are either drawn to their design or put image over that the computer can actually do. So essentially they're paying double price for sleek design or "image". That's paying extra (double) for a pink wrench over a regular one. Only that the pink wrench can only half of what the regular one can. So yeah I don't get it.
  23. Meshugger, what you're talking about is making computers more efficient, not faster. I think someone (number man) already addressed that before. I have no idea how neurons fit into that equation, but i really doubt they're even near the limit the scientists calculated. I don't doubt we'll be abled to make a computer as efficient, or even more efficient, than the human brain but there is a limit on how fast a single processor performing a single calculation or action can be.
