Metal Gear Solid is not dark in the slightest. It's much closer to NOLF than to DX in terms of feel and atmosphere.

On the contrary, many products in the software industry are filled with redudant legacy data, since resources are usually better spent on other things. To this day, finding a software installation that hasn't some kind of old and unnecessary data may be a challenge. Another problem is that removing something from the data files may cause unexpected bugs to pop up.

While BO 2 had great art direction (let's forget about scantily clad vampire chicks for a moment), its puzzles were way too easy. Another problem was the combat system: only the opponent you targeted actually attacked you, and the rest were just watching. Defiance was better on both accounts. The first SR was post-apoc. It was so grey that it made Gears of War look like Uncharted.

Hell noez. I still hope to see this and this one day. Blood Omen 2 was worse, not by much, but worse. That said, they still were decent to good games, for such is the power of the LoK license.

Soul Reaver 2. I can finally forget early 3D graphics of SR like a bad dream.

Nope, the game doesn't look any better at higher resolutions, plus the PC version is trickier to get running under XP.

Indeed, Alpha Protocol looks closer to NOLF than to Deus Ex.

If you ignore the stupid block puzzles in the first Soul Reaver, that is. Basically, the entire Legacy of Kain saga is made of concentrated win. Voice acting is top-notch, and Crystal Dynamics managed to write a brilliant story that is neither too difficult, nor too easy to follow. The only ****-up is Vorador's presence in Blood Omen 2, the explanation of which was cut from Defiance because CD had run out of time. Obsidian isn't the only developer prone to that. Older Kain. The Sanctuary of the Clans. The ruined Pillars of Nosgoth. "And so it unfolds..." Spectral Reaver.

Soul Reaver games have a Lovecraftian octopus deity voiced by Tony Jay as a major character. Not every game has one of those.

Legacy of Kain RPG. Obsidian should snatch the license from Eidos and give it some Avellonian treatment.
