  1. Loosing skills? Lazy? Neither nor. It's probably just a design decision. :D No seriously, in the case of The Sith Lords playing as e.g. non human or playing completely as a non-Jedi (people would cry: where are the lightsabers? What feats for non-Jedi? What replacements for the force powers?) would incorporate nasty difficulties... and that not just things like "no romance between a Rodian guy and The new hot lady in The Sith Lords), also things that would just be illogically storywise.
  2. Hopyfully your desire will fulfil one day, but don't expect to play something different than a good or an evil Jedi in a Star Wars game.
  3. Well, you have your reasons, and if it's really that bad, then it's probably really better you leave the computer gaming area.... because I'm pretty sure there will be a huge bunch of CRPGs in the future that are "dumbed down" in your eyes, or whatever... Anyway, I felt KOTOR wasn't that kind of game that really needed this heavy customization of your character, it was more a story/char-driven game and pretty linear... I'm actually used to be playing those Bio games... Of course that doesn't mean you can't catch me for a good old school game like Fallout (yeah, beat it yesterday for the third time), but those games have no mass market appeal bla bla.... It's a question of money, so don't expect to see a game for adults in the future anymore. Regarding Gothic 2: Now you're really starting to hurt my feelings! I really liked it (and disliked it for some reasons), but again, it's the whole picture that made the game very immersive, and that without prestige classes and so forth...
  4. Face it Doomy, there will never be a CRPG that will fit your expectations, and you know the reasons... Devs are trying to innovate by making non-genre-typically games (e.g. merging game genres together -- see Bioware with JE), and although a typically CRPG allows you to chose your class and abilities from the beginning, it doesn't mean that Sith Lords will be a bad CRPG because you can only play a Jedi...
  5. T3-M4? What for? Unless MCA will make a mobile trash can of it with some useful statements a' la "Thanks for your garbage, master! *gulp*", I'll refuse to use this annoying metallic beast again. The same's for the Wookie....
  6. Yup, there's also a Personal Learning Edition of Maya, Discreet offers only an 30 days (?) Version of Max. I'm currently learning myself Maya, and I'm over with the Basics. BTW I really can recommend Maya FUNDAMENTALS from Jim Lammers, there is a huge bunch of Video-Tutorials on CD, and that was really the way to learn that stuff about the marking menus, hotbox, short-cuts etc. So yes, the learning curve is steeper with Maya than Max (also did some stuff with it, but switched then to Maya), but if you're working more and more with it, it's actually a very logical und easy using GUI and overall design. So Maya is my personal recommendation, and it's cheaper, either. About the price: I think that's also different from region to region, but you should find the answers on www.alias.com.
  7. Feargus already stated a little time ago that Obsidian itself is using 3ds max for all modeling and animation stuff. Maya is also very popular in the gaming industry (and even cheaper), but if you're looking around, most devs apparently prefer 3ds max. But don't ask me why....
  8. Here my rant for today: If that's true, I feel somehow sadly, because Vader already implies a movie time frame with less original characters I guess....
  9. I think with "Sith Lord" Gamestop meant that new SW-game where you can play Darth Vader personally that Lucas Arts already mentioned on the GDC. Read here. Don't know whether thats Delaware or not, but at least "Sith Lord" and playing with Darth Vader sounds very.... logical.
  10. Don't be worried, Doomy will get Kotor2 and will be pleased with it. Just as simple as with Kotor1....
  11. OMG!!! The official Kotor2 Promotional Art has been revealed!!! And I kew it I knew it I knew it! Feargus personally is the new Dark Lord in Kotor2! --> DARTH FEARGUS!*groaning* Noo, seriously. I'm really happy for Obsidian in the case Kotor2 is for real!
  12. Well, but cute graphics in games is also very subjectively... I also thought the monkeys in System Shock 2 were soooo cute... Until one of those critters poked me an energy ball into the face. Edit: Ohh and who think the spiders in Shock2 were also cute?
  13. ...No room for a sequel.. Don't speak that out too loud, maybe MCA is already working on his new killer story a 'la KOTOR2 - The Rebirth of Lord Malak!
  14. I don't think KOTOR2 will turn out with the Infinity Engine. We all know it's also a console title, and a RPG. So I'm pretty sure it's 3rd person, as Kotor1 was. Still I hope OE can turn out a different KOTOR2 rather than the typical sequel that many people are expecting. Programming a new engine for this would be a waste of time if you ask me. But it's possible that OE is using the Jade Empire engine....who knows.
  15. Better engine? What for? Better rule system? Wait and see.
  16. Well let's just hope it's not a sequel. I rather want to see a different game (just same engine and KOTOR2 on the box, for more cash), but a game that has uniquely Obsidian feeling... if you know what I mean. If Bioware has their fingers in the game, it's eventually a Bio game again.
  17. That's true. I remember an interview were Gabe Newell said the same, that there is literally a wall between the developer staff and the QA staff and people with a serious intend to break into the gaming industry should make mods, mods, and mods. But it's somehow really sadly, I mean no wonder that with such an ineffective communication and relationship between devs and QA the games are becoming more buggy and buggy...
  18. You mean stop giving feedback to them? Have you missed the entire point of these forums? What? You mean your poll should be some sort of useful feedback? That's a joke, right?
  19. Again, you did not exactly explain what the reason is behind your poll, Karzak. Making paranoid-like assumptions why they could deliver a sucky game and why they should fail or not is NOT in your's or mine hands, nor is it really appropriate to make assumptions why someone would want to crush OE. Just let them do their game and you'll see when it's done.
  20. What use do you get from those polls anyway?
  21. That's a pretty silly question. Please stop spamming the boards Karzak.
  22. Well, how true... Maybe I've just formulated my question a bit wrong. Old technologies have their (design) limitations, but for e.g. Thief this isn't absolutely bad, because this kind of games avoids char interaction (talking, not blackjacking ) with the pc completely, so from that standpoint I can focus more about the immersion with the environment and mustn't be worried about how I've to deal with conversations (and their impacts). No one really knows how good HL2 will really be, but I'm personally more interested in games with a sense of exploration and some non-combat opportunities (like Shock/Thief/DeusEx series), instead of linearity that shooter actually are..... So the question should maybe be asked: Is a mod with a stone old engine, but 100% polished and original more "worth" than let's just say a well done, good looking shooter, but less interesting? (Damn maybe I've just answered my question again. <_< ). Thanks ahead!
