The Obsidian Community all-time top 106 games - FULL RESULTS!
Thanks for responding for me - I had planned to respond, but wasn't sure at the time how to, and then forgot algroth had asked me. It is definitely one of the more flawed games that I adore, but I do still adore it for its unique combination of setting and gameplay elements.

The Obsidian Community all-time top 106 games - FULL RESULTS!
I tried Jagged Alliance 2 at the advice of a friend probably around...8 or 9 years ago. About twenty minutes in, I had a seizure (the first I'd ever had, as a matter of fact). I never got back to JA2 after that - I ended up reformatting my computer some months later without saving it or ever even turning it back on again. But anyways, the moral of the story is, JA2 gets #1 on my "worst games of all time" for being the only game to ever literally give me a seizure.

It's a legitimate publication (...more or less), so I would think it'd be alright.

NFL 2017-2018 Season
Every game I cheered for the Chiefs to win after Rodgers broke his collarbone they unsanctimoniously lost. I started getting off the Chiefs bandwagon when it looked like the Chargers were going to steal the division from them, so of course they proceeded to beat the Chargers for the division...and I was just starting to think while watching the first half of the wildcard game, maybe, maybe they'll be able to reproduce magic like when they beat the Patriots at the start of the year. Whoops.

Nope, not really, but thanks for asking! Okay, for real, I've only played Stalker (which I voted for) and Civilization 4 out of those. I've always thought at least the last 3-4 Civilization games (i.e. the ones I've actually tried) were too deeply flawed to be deserving on a best games list, but uh, I guess people disagree!

Vacation suggestions
Rhodes...reading that it's actually a popular tourist location. Seems like the place to be if you want to visit Greece...lots of history to it, too, and a wonderful location. Think I'll add that to my list of places I want to visit.

I've always wanted to go to Turkey (Istanbul, specifically), but I guess it's not really the place to be at the moment. Maybe Poland so you can visit Sharp_one.

I don't think anyone voted for ToB (if they did, I missed it). Makes sense, considering ToB was, in many ways, the low point of the series.

Yeah, I wasn't sure of the wisdom of separating expansions and base games, and I was pretty sure MotB was going to suffer for it, and it did. Standalone expansions I could understand, but an add-on to the base game seems like it should count as part of the base game.

Hmm, is that on Steam?

Was it his own? I'd be pretty pleased if I managed to bankrupt a casino that wasn't mine.

My solution was to never do a kick throughout any of the three Dark Souls games. Even if I could get it to work 90% of the time, that 10% would surely get me killed.

Backup options.
Ah...yes, a tablet is a little more tricky. I don't think Windows tablets run standard copies of Windows (I think they run Windows RT, which is ARM-only). I don't know if there are any operating systems you could do what I suggested with if it is indeed an ARM tablet. (e): Seems like Ubuntu may work with ARM-based tablets? Maybe? Your mileage will probably vary with the specific model...

Assuming the laptop drive is not actually encrypted, create a bootable flash drive for your laptop (either Windows or Linux will do - Linux is the easier of the two because Microsoft very specifically tried to prevent people from formatting flash drives with Windows, though it is still possible), and extract the files that way, as you'll now have access to your laptop's hard drive from inside of the flash drive's OS. I have a bootable Linux flash drive for exactly this reason - though some newer laptops may have protections against booting removable drive OSes, not entirely sure.

Politics Thread: Silicon Valley Edition
Gorsuch could be considered an accomplishment in the sense that he, Trump, was elected, by which Gorsuch was allowed to be nominated. That makes it partly his accomplishment - more that scumbag McConnell's than his, though, I'd say. Of course, there's an argument to be made that any almost other Republican candidate would've fared better in the general election than Trump, but ultimately, he did get the job done (..even if he DID lose the popular vote by 2 million-plus votes - our election system's fault, not Trump's).

@Life Is Strange: It had contrived choice dichotomies, the consequences were almost entirely nonexistent, real bad face animations (kind of a big deal for the type of game it is), some characters were written really weirdly (or poorly) at some of the worst times, and some other problems...BUT I still bought into it while playing for various other reasons, and was rewarded with a very unique and strangely fun experience. Life Is Strange is not a game you can probably play casually - I waited a year-plus to be in the right mood to try it out, and I'm pretty sure if I hadn't, I wouldn't have liked the game at all. I'm sort of the same way with movies...which makes sense, since LIS is basically just a mildly interactive movie-game.

That reminds me of how annoying inventory management was in NWN2 even though they gave you a huge amount of it along with giant magic bags. Good times.

Intel Kernel Memory Flaw - "Looking at a Ballpark Figure of 5-30% slow down"
I mean, if you're okay with any javascript you happen to run across while browsing being able to hijack your PC, sure. Note that this can include poorly curated ads...

Intel Kernel Memory Flaw - "Looking at a Ballpark Figure of 5-30% slow down"
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/01/02/intel_cpu_design_flaw/ Apparently affects almost all modern Intel CPUs (from around the first Core generation to current ones). A bad enough security flaw that the Linux community as well as Microsoft are attempting to censor and obfuscate all discussion of it for the time being while they work on a fix. Makes it so that any old Javascript running on your browser can access your kernel memory and hijack your PC, I guess. A reddit discussion thread for more information: https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/7nqgpb/intel_cpus_processor_design_flaw_may_cause_5_to/

Those are all pretty striking. You gotta wonder how publishers think that the generic action pose is somehow preferable time and time again compared to something that's actually interesting to look at. Is it all marketing? Probably. At the very least, action game covers are functional for telling people what genre game they are, if nothing else.

That's definitely true for action games...
