  1. This!!! Better yet, make ALL of the the UI scale with the resolution! If this game become a classic then we might be playing it in way higher resolutions than what is standard today. An excellent idea. It's not hard to implement programming- wise either!
  2. I agree completely with this. Having to squint to read the text is NOT what high resolutions are for!
  3. You're making even less sense now. Access to and acceptance of all cultures IS multiculturalism.
  4. You are completely right! And I would also like female warriors to be rare to non- existent, some type of headcovering being the norm for married women, and attention given to women's historically subordinate role in society. On the other hand, gender equality is on top of my political priorities IRL. I don't see how these two viewpoints conflict with each other. In fact, a woman who is unhappy about her role in society could be an interesting NPC.
  5. OK guys, I've thought about this a lot. I feel very comfortable with the old- school Baldur's Gate (1,2) UI, and I really don't like newfangled thin, wiry and transparent UIs. Since this is a game where we, the players, are supposed to give input and I feel this hasn't been mentioned I thought I would give it a go. Compare to Personally, I think that the old BG 2 UI has more charm with it's solid, ornamental look compared to the NWN UI with its thin, transparent, wiry frames. Hell, the NWN 2 looks so much better when you Baldur's Gate-ify it: One strength of the newer UIs is that you can have several windows at once on the screen. Personally though, I find that I never have any practical need for this. I would much more prefer to have an UI just like the original Baldur's Gate, but upsized to modern resolutions (like in the same way that you enlarge vector images...). Oh, and when I say that I like Baldur's Gate's UI, that could also mean a similar- looking UI, but with IWD's placements of the various shortcut buttons. Those are all details. What do you prefer?
  6. There are no RPGs I hate. On the other hand, there are action RPGs (Diablo series, the Elder Scrolls series, et.c.) and I don't care much for those. As far as I'm concerned they could just disappear from the Earth without me noticing.
  7. What? I think you misread my post. If I'm forced to allocate my points in various ways, of course that limits my options. I honestly can't see what your post has to do with what I wrote... From what I understand, you said that having different pools of ability points for combat and non-combat abilities limits your roleplaying options, no? Yes, because I can't make a character who's specialized in non-combat skills, an "auxiliary class". Why not? Having combat abilities doesn't make your non-combat abilities go anywhere. You're free to design a pacifist character with good diplomacy, bluff, barter etc. and use those primarily those skills, without ever picking the option to fight. It's the difference between not taking an option because you can't and not taking the option because you choose not to. How is that limiting? Because other characters of a comparable level will have the same amount of auxiliary skills, (and challenges appropriate for this level will require them) of course! I think you've missed the point. An auxiliary class is a class which excels in non- combat skills. This means, that such a class is better prepared for non- combat challenges than other characters of the corresponding level. Capisce?

  10. I don't understand why more people haven't suggested Michael Hoenig. He is by far the most iconic composer of IE game music in my opinion. Jeremy Soule - well, not so much to get excited about. He has made some of the worst and most boring video game music I've ever heard. I'm frankly surprised that he still in the business. Mark Morgan is great, but I haven't heard him composing much music that would be fitting for a fantasy RPG. New guy Justin Bell - I'm cautiously optimistic Ben Houge's soundtrack to Arcanum was also very good and professionally executed (with the exception of a couple of tracks), especially the themes for the different cities.
  11. Ugh. This will remove everything that made games such as Fallout and Arcanum fun. If I want to make the game hard for myself and tag Speech, Barter and Gambling I should be able to do so. While I understand that this division is exactly in line with D&D (especially 4th ed. D&D), it is kind of limiting to your roleplaying options. My suggestion is that you limit tihe amount of point that you can put into combat skills and allow the players who want to go crazy on other stuff to do so.
  12. Ugh, this sucks. But oh well, they already settled on a class- based system to begin with so I guess it can't get much worse :'(
  13. Bah. BG2's manual was nothing compared to the Arcanum manual.
  14. This is what I think as well. Consequently, I am waiting for a NPC who is an "awakened soul" from a mighty warrior reincarnated in the form of a cow.
  15. I think that games have not explored enough the kinds of social stigmas you must face as a half- breed.
  16. This. Also, when you slay larger beasts some might even have magical items on them. I mean, come on. Where could that wyvern possibly have hid that longsword +1?
  17. Well, we had merchant republics and monastic states. EDIT: Seeing how the printing press is not invented yet, there must be a lot of monks (or some similar organization) keeping all the books and knowledge.
  18. This is a perfect example of what I want this game to do. Take common, overused fantasy tropes and give them a deep, realistic explanation. What is the true impact upon society when you kill a bandit? And, what can change the nature of a bandit? That's what I want to know.
  19. Sure. And the French are different from the Germans, the Swedes are different from the Norwegians... What were you saying?
