Europa Universalis Part 7 - Day 9: And again, I decided to upgrade infrastructure as much as possible and continue in pushing Turkey out of Europe. The war was this time very short, but as before, as soon as I started to attack Turkey, Denmark and Poland-Lithuania declared war on me. Meanwhile I was producing some more colonists as well, so to focus more on the colonization attempts, I decided to make fast peace, first with Turkey (I got Obrudja and Rumelia as a compensation) and then with Poland-Lithuania (I got Bessarabia from them). The latter peace was kind of bad-managed from me, and I regret now to go for it so fast. Because trying to Podolia province as well, would help me little bit more with logistics of my troops when waging war with Turkish-Crimea alliance. Well I still have to push for three more Turkish provinces, so I believe, that as soon as I declare war on them again, I'll be attacked by Poland again, and I could get this province later. Right after that I signed peace with Denmark and England again, and everything went back to normal. Put some money into upgrading the relations with some countries and I reached maximum level for Trade research. While I was in war I accumulated 300 colonists, which I put into good use, and upgraded Malacca colony to small city and colonized Kuala Lumpur province. This two province are trading in Spices, which is one of the best priced commodities in EU, so the boost which I got into my Center of Trade in Naples was pretty significant. In the comming years I put more colonists into Kuala Lumpur and built amongst others manufactories, one in Malacca as well, which in the end made the population there more comfortable to live Well it ended up as little bit shorter update, but there is no need for wall of text every time Anyway, I wanted to add some screens as well, but somehow the function of adding attachment to my Obsidz account is disabled Well, I will have to use some external service then, but making one more account at another website, sighs... I am losing track of all of my accounts already... EDIT: any recommendations for a solid website, which I can use for my kind of Let's Plays, which will not require me, for signing in with them, to give them all the private details of my whole family and all of our cats and dogs?

Keyrock, you are the most funded guy about Space Sims around here Can you please tell me little bit about Independence War 1 and 2? I have never played nor seen it, and it is now on GOG sale. I will probably not buy it this time of year, because I spent a lot on gaming lately, but some insights on these games would be welcome. Thanks.

Europa Universalis Part 6 - Day 8: I have used the long lasting peace to build up my research and province infrastructure and of course build more troops at the Turkish borders. I have also put a lot of money into improving the relations with my allies, and Spain and Venice to the maximum, so I can be sure they would not attack me, if someone declared war on me. During time of peace the Military alliance expired, so I decided to take a lead and form the alliance again, but this time, I have invited Venice as well and made the current alliance with France, Portugal, Scotland and Venice one of the most powerful in the world. Unfortunately despite having very high relation with Scotland, I was unable to turn them into my vassals We'll see how it will go in nest few years. In the end, I have decided, that I want to push them out of Europe. After building up, I declared war on them, and immediately attacked 3 of their provinces. After a while, I conquered Bujak and Hellas, so I moved few more troops to Bulgaria, but before conquering this province, Netherlands and Hanseatic League and their allies, including Poland-Lithuania and England declared war on me as well. I have left some soldiers next to Turkey started big production of armies in Bohemia and Austria and slowly moved my armies to the north. This time, I decided to not attack Poland, and just defend my provinces. I moved all my armies in the west into three provinces of Hanseatic League. Meanwhile I have conquered Bulgaria and Turkey offered me peace in exchange for Bujak and Bulgaria, which was promptly accepted from my side. I have left only one smaller army there to sort out rebellions and moved forward to push against Hanseatic League. After a while I have conquered all of their provinces and ended war with another annexation. Right after that, I have paid 250 Ducats to their Danish allies to end the war. They accepted, so I moved all of my remaining troops to Netherlands. After conquering two of their provinces, they offered me Hessen for peace. One more province in my Reich Just to be sure to not get again into endless rebellions from war exhaustion, I have peaced out with England for 250 Ducats as well, and that meant end of another successful war for Austria. During the war I have reached maximum technology level for Infrastructure, so now I have more money to spent on Trade and Army upgrades In the coming time of peace, I was able to upgrade my colony in Gambia to small city, and I was successful at forming a colony in Malacca (part of current Malaysia). Unfortunately Austria produces only 100 colonists per year, and not all of them are successful at expanding colonies, so it will be long time until I will be able to achieve my current goal of colonizing Malaysia and Singapore provinces.

Europa Universalis Part 5 - Day 6: On Friday, just before my vacation, I decided to launch the game for an hour or so. After doing some upgrades to my infrastructure, I noticed, that Turkey is starting to amass pretty big army in Bulgaria. Looking at that, I decided to do a preventive strike against them. Unfortunately, my former friends decided to dishonor our alliance So I used this opportunity, to join French/Portugal/Scotland alliance right away. I few regiments of soldiers into Turkish provinces of Bulgaria and Macedonia, and this was, when Lorraine and Poland-Lithuania decided to join the heathens and declared a war to me as well. I put all of my western troops to attack Lorraine, which now consisted of only two provinces. And I put the rest of the troops, which were closest to the north, to defend against Poland-Lithuania. Unfortunately I had not enough, so quickly I have lost the province of Kustrin, but I was able to defend Silesia. Thankfully my new French friends helped me a lot against them, and I was able to recapture Kustrin. But, just before I recaptured my lost province, my former allies (Netherlands/Hanover/Brandenburg) with the help of Hanseatic League decided to declare war on me as well I called French to the rescue again, and I have slowly started to lose and win some of my provinces. First thing I have done, was peacing out with Turkey, so I would not need to defend on three fronts. While defending against Poland, I captured Bulgaria and Macedonia from Turkey, and decimated most of their armies. So they offered me peace with Macedonia included. I planned to capture at least two or three provinces from them, but the sudden twist in war, forced me to peace out with them ASAP. I had to accept this peace, if I did not wanted to lose the war against my former allies. The second thing, which I have decided, was to crush Lorraine. After few months, I completely destroyed their armies, captured both of their provinces and after this, to annex them. Meanwhile French and Netherlands had lot of clashes, and because I was not directly threatened by them, I decided to go against Brandenburg. First French captured one of their two provinces. French got this province as an offer for peace, and then I was able to capture their capital for me, which meant one more province in my empire through annexation. French and Netherlands were still struggling against each other. Because Hanover was spamming me with peace offers demanding 250 ducats from me, I decided to push against them and Hanseatic league. After a while I was able to annex Hanover and their two provinces and started to push against Hanseatic League. In this moment Venice declared war on me. The war started to last much much longer, than I have planned in th end. Soon the war exhaustion would lead to lot of my provinces starting to rebel. Seeing that Hanseatic League has crazy good fortifications, I decided to offer them 250 Ducats for peace and attack at once at three fronts, and hope to end this war before to much rebellions break out. I put all my money into building armies in Austria and Bohemia provinces, which brought me 32,000 infantry units each two months. Because meanwhile some luck was on my side, Spain decided to declare war on Poland-Lithuania as well, and this meant, that I had easy prey in north east. French captured Krakow and Western Pommerania, I was able to recapture Kustrin and capture Western Prussia. This was when they decided to offer us peace and we gladly accepted. All captured provinces got their new rulers. Meanwhile French and Netherlands decided to peace out because both of them were loosing loads of troops without capturing each others provinces. The war exhaustion started to break out in my territories, so I put two big armies to Netherlands, three assigned to Venice and one to travel around my Reich and clear out the rebellions. Soon I captured Kleves and Hessen from Netherlands, and they offered me Kleves in exchange for peace. After thinking this through for a while, I rather decided to accept the offer and stop pushing for them. Hessen would be much better choice, but the rebellions started to erupt more often. Now I was at war with Venice only, so I put the remaining troops from Polish and Netherlands borders to go against rebellions and continue to push against Venice. I slowly pushed against them, but because they still had pretty big armies, they did not want to accept any kind of peace. Thankfully I had still lot of money to produce troops in Austria and Bohemia, so after a while I was able to capture three of their provinces. After this they finally decided to offer me peace and with it the provinces of Albania and Mantua. The war was not over yet though. I was still at war with Algiers and Persia. Lot of my provinces were rebelling, so I rather decided to offer them some Ducats for peace despite their almost non-existent troops. Waiting for automatic white peace after 24 month of non-aggression would cost me much more Ducats, because of all the rebellions. The war was finally over and slowly all of the rebellions calmed down. I wanted only to push heathens little bit more out of Europe, but half of Europe decided to turn against me. I ended up with 10 more provinces, completely destroying three nations. It means that I have very few enemies now, but I did not wanted to wage war against European nations anymore. Well at least I was able to win this war, before losing to much to rebellion. Time for bed and vacation Day 7: After four days I came back home and started for my game for 40 short minutes. I noticed that Turkey lost their merchant outpost in Gambia, because they all died out due to attrition, so I used the opportunity and sent out my colonist there. I was successful, and now I control my second colony I sent few more hundred colonists to Dakar as well, and formed an army there, just in case. The rest of the time, I have put some money into relationships with Spain, France, Scotland and Portugal. Upgraded as much of my provinces as possible, started to sent out merchants to various Center of Trades (out of which I own three), to recoup some of the financial loses during the war. And build up big army near Turkish borders. I do not want to start another big war again, but before I started out playing EU, I set my goal to unite Austria-Hungary and to push Turks out of Europe. The first goal I was able to achieve in 1566. Meanwhile I was able to become the most powerful nation in the game which was really unexpected from me, but I still would love to achieve this goal before the game ends in 1792. I have still 120 years to go. Good game!

Part 4 - Day 5: After two days break, I continued again. From the start it looked pretty peaceful session, but that changed after two years or so. Netherlands decided to attack France, and I have decided to join the fight. At the start it looked pretty fine, we were pushing French and Polish coalition and Netherlands got few of their provinces, I attacked Poland, and was solving rebellions in my new provinces. Then Turkey attacked me, and after few struggles, I got two of their provinces and crushed a lot of their soldiers. Turkey decided to offer me Moldavia in exchange for peace, so I gladly accepted. While the war was still waging, I decided to take advantage of it and declared war to Lorraine-Baden alliance. I have put big armies there, and in few months, I have annexed Baden. At this point, the war, looked pretty in favour of me, but somehow French amassed very big army and attacked my Helvetia. Unfortunately my armies were pretty decimated, so as soon as France offered me white peace, I had to accept, else I would lose this war In the coming month, lot of my provinces started to rebel from war exhaustion, so I decided rather to end the war against Lorraine as well, even though I would be able to destroy them, even with the tiny army which I had left. If I did otherwise, I would lose few German provinces from rebellion The war in the end was success for me, but failure for Netherlands. I was able to get two new provinces, and finally get ahead of Spain in Victory Points. Unfortunately, France has risen in this war to power, so now, I really have to think about leaving behind Netherlands-Hanover-Brandenburg coalition and try to befriend French-Scottish-Portugal alliance I really do not leave behind my allies, because they helped me a lot in last few wars, but in the next war, we might get overwhelmed by the new formed French alliance Decisions, decisions... 140 years to the end of the scenario.

And another EU gaming session behind me Part 3 - Day 4: After small break I took another gaming session. This time it really looked to be boring session. The plan was to do some research and build some manufactories and fortifications, and rebuild my army. Before I was able to rebuild it, the Royal Marriage with France expired, and right away, they attacked me together with Poland-Lithuania and Genoa. Right after that, all other big powers started to wage war against me, except Spain. I was just happy that Poland-Lithuania was pretty decimated, because never-ending revolt in their realm, but with France it was another story. They have amassed really big army this time. First I was able to take two of their provinces, but after I had to move some soldiers to war against Turkey, they took it back and with the help of Genoa, they took two of my provinces as well. If I wanted to win this war, I had to prepare working plan. First I concentrated all my available soldiers on Poland-Lithuania and Turkey. I conquered one Polish and one Turkish province. Unfortunately it was not enough to accept my peace offers. I had to attack another province in each of the empire. After some struggles, Turkey offered me Galicia and Poland-Lithuania offered Wallachia in exchange for peace, which I gladly accepted This solved all the trouble in the east, so I left just few soldiers to solve local rebellions, and started to prepare for France and Genoa. Meanwhile the game after 36 months of inactivity offered me some white peace with few countries, which waged war against me, but were to far away to do anything. Only power, which could make some trouble for me was Denmark, because they had pretty big navy, so I decided to accept the first peace they offered me, and pay them 250 Ducats. After getting peace with most of the countries, I got back one of my provinces occupied by France and took Genoa province. But to completely annex Genoa, I had to conquer Corsica as well. That looked like trouble, because they had pretty big army blockading my harbours. I risked it and took all my ships into the sea, which was enough to push their ships away. I had to patrol the sea around Corsica for few months, until it was safe enough for disembarkation of my troops. After a while, I conquered Corsica as well, and with it, I have annexed Genoa Republic. With the annexation, I got all of their remaining ships, which helped me a lot in the remaining war against France. Unfortunately, lot of my provinces started rebelling, because of war exhaustion, so I made a final move to take back last of my provinces, which were occupied by France. And right after that, I rather offered them peace, which they accepted. War was finally over, and I gained another four provinces to my realm. This one was so far the hardest to win, because France had much bigger army than I had. Thankfully my allies helped me lot. Alliance with the Netherlands was really good choice! The year is 1632 and only 3 Victory points behind Spain now But again, I will take day or two break from the game

What are you playing now?
Another episode from Europa Universalis incoming, despite knowing, almost no one will read it But I really love this game so much! Part 2: Day 3: I continued to play on Sunday for a little while again I decided to go as much peacefully as possible and put some effort into improving relations with other European nations. In the end I was able to put peace to rebels in my Hungarian provinces and annex diplomatically two Savoy provinces and two Tuscany provinces. This meant that I had to watch out for rebels again, but this time on much lower scale as in Hungary My ally, France continued to attack Netherlands and other smaller states in Germany, which made big impact on my stability. That's why I decided to change the Alliance to Venice and Mameluks :D I boosted the Venice relations as much as possible, but after few years when I got +200, I found, that I was unable to vasallize them for some reason, which made me sad, because I wasted lot of ducats I had to find another way how to make my country more powerful. The only way which seemed, that could be painless and without impact on relations, was to go to North Africa. I decided to go against Morocco, because it was only North African country without any military alliance. Before attacking, I have decided to get more friendly with Netherlands. I made some ships, moved to their coast, declared war on them and asked my allies to help me out. To my surprise they have dishonored our alliance and I ended up fighting against them alone. As soon as I started to unload my troops to Morocco, Spain and Portugal declared war against me, and a ton of ****e hit the fan! Few days after that, the Spanish allies (Kleves, Cologne and The Palpatinate) attackedme as well. This was the time, when I realized that boosting relations with Netherlands was wise idea. Because I was now without alliance, I joined them right away. I moved all my troops to Milan and started to wait how this will play out. Spain had two provinces near me. So I decided to attack one and let the second one to be attacked by Netherlands. I moved three other regiments to attack The Palpatinate and Cologne, which in the end meant that I won war against them by annexion. Meanwhile Kleves was annexed by my Hessen allies. As soon as this happened, France declared war against me. I was lucky, that their army was decimated in the previous war against Netherlands. After conquering the Spanish province in Italy, Spain offered me this province as a peace resolution, so I gladly accepted, and put all my focus against France. I was able to conquer three their provinces in few months, and just to be safe, I offered them peace in exchange for Provence and Dauphiné. They accepted this offer, and right after that, my diplomats started to work again on raising relations with them. It played out well, because as soon as I got attacked by The Papal State, France declared war against them as well. Then out of nowhere I was attacked by Poland-Lithuania and Venice, even though I had very high relation with them, and right after that, Turkey declared war on me, and I was crushed in few months completely I had to do another reload I loaded right after The Papal State turned against me and put lot of money into Poland and Venice. The previous attacks haven't happened, so I had time to make some progress against The Pope. My allies helped me to get one of his provinces and the Turkey came again. The troops I had in Balkan were enough to hold their attacks until Netherlands and Brandenburg came to help me out, but then Turkey brought out of fog of war crazy big army and started to attack my Kosovo province. But thankfully at that time my allies have crushed two of their provinces, so I rather agreed with peace, while giving them both of these provinces back. I could probably win, but I would lose most of my Balkan troops and I was also still in war against Persia and Portugal, so many of my provinces across my empire started to revolt because of war exhaustion, and I just needed all of my troops to solve these revolts. In the end it was good move, because despite having +200 relations with Venice, they declared war on me. I think there must be some hidden mechanics in the game, where some countries are very trigger-happy, when someone wages war with The Papal State. Anyway, I was lucky that this happened right after war with Turkey, so lot of allied forces, were still on Balkan, and they helped me to besiege Bosnia. A few days afterwards, I besieged Rome, and The Papal State decided to give up their Romagna province for peace. As soon as this happened, my Italian regiment started moving towards Mantua. Venice had really big army on Balkan, but with my allies I liberated both of these provinces, so Venice short time after this offered me Bosnia as a peace resolution. While waging this war, I was putting all of my diplomats to Poland-Lithuania, so I could keep our relations high, because it was dropping during this war very fast. Out of nowhere Naples declared war against me, despite having only one province. It was quick war, which ended with their annexion. After this annexion, all of the fights in Europe stopped and month or two afterwards, the game mechanics decided to force peace with Portugal and Persia on us, and with this all of the revolts ended. The war lasted for almost 8 years. I had more than 160k soldiers at the start, and ended up with less than 50k. My plan of taking three of Morocco's provinces completely failed, but instead, I ended up with nine new European provinces. Well played :D One year after the war, the Spanish king died, and I was elected as the Emperor of The Holy Empire. This will allow me more freedom of movement for my soldiers in Europe. This whole big war put me only 80 Victory points behind Spain, but to the south, a new force is emerging fast! During the war, Persia annexed their Mameluks vassal, and now control almost whole North of Africa and Middle East. I see some big wars incoming. The year now is 1620 and I have 172 years to close the gap between me and Spain, to win the game

What are you playing now?
I decided to look a little bit at the old Paradox games which I bought during last GOG sale. I started with Europa Universalis. I started the Tutorial campiagn but it bugged on me twice, so I went for the Grand Campaign Scenario. I picked Austria and first game, I decided to go right after Bohemia and annexed it in first few years, it went good, but then after few years I somehow messed up so I decided to restart the campaign. This time, I decided to go against smaller German Dukedoms. I got few of them and my Kingdom was growing, then I allied with Hungary and Poland-Lithuania and decided to go against Saxony. And because I completely skipped diplomacy, because I was always broke and on Loans, right after I attacked every neighbour decided to go against me. Well, the first wave (other German Dukedoms) was easy, I crushed them with my allies within minutes, then the second wave came (Venice, Italian Dukedoms and Spain) I was able to emerge victorious again, but two months after I made last peace, the third wave came (French, and Savoy) with the last few units I was able to put them down with little bit of bribery and giving away one sucky province, but then the first wave came again and I was like WTF and got completely destroyed. The whole war went for more than 20 or 30 years!!! I checked few of the savegames and I found that after annexing Bavaria, Wurtemberg and Thuringen, the relation to every neighbour was at -200 O.o Oooukey! This was the time, when I realized, that without spending ****loads of Ducats on diplomacy you get crushed into oblivion after you get to big player in warfare. I loaded the game right before the hell broke up and made sure that I had +50 relations with France and Savoy. Put some money into Spain, Hessen and Hungary as well, and right after that I successfully made Hungary into my Vassal. I amassed big armies near Bohemia borders and decided to start the war again, but this time against Bohemia. It was easy as pie this time, the war was successful after 10 years or so and I decided to give peace offer to Bohemia and annex them. But the moment I did this, Poland-Lithuania and Hungary turned against me, because I missed that our alliance expired during war. I was crushed again :'( Time for another reload. Right before the war against Bohemia. I have done the same, just this time I have decided to go against Saxony. I made sure to check the diplomacy during the war as well and put some money into maintaining allies at the right reputation. The only way, how I was able to made this is stop all research and take all the money for the republic. The war ended victorious (I annexed Saxony without my allies turning on me), but I ended up with 15% inflation, Everything started to be expensive I looked on Diplomacy screen and my neighbours and that France has stable relation to me and crazy big army (Bigger than mine after this war). So I decide to change little bit the diplomacy game and decided to ally with France and Savoy and keep very good relations with my former allies, so they do not attack me again. But I was loosing money to fast. I found out, that was caused by Auto-send Merchants feature. So I decided to turn it of and started to manage it manually, which helped me in the end to go into better results. Budget was stable, army renewed, time for third war! This time finally against Bohemia. It was another long term mess, but I was able to annex them, during the war I won few other provinces and before it ended up, I decided to get me finally a province with a shipyard. I was at war at Parma and Genoa. So I Decided first to go against Genoa. And that was a mistake. They had stored very big army on Sardinia, about which I did not know. They decimated big chunks of my army and after 2 years I was completely defeated Thankfully we have save/load feature, so I reloaded and decided to go against Parma. The war ended in pretty much same mess, but I was able to keep up with the loses. I got Parma and my first harbour! The price for it was, that I had to give Hessen as a peace resolution one of the provinces which I acquired in the first phase of this war. This was the time, when I decided to go completely peaceful. I had lot of new provinces, which now an then revolting, so I just maintained big armies to counter them. After few years the dust settled and Tuscany joined our Alliance as well. Then I found out Annex by diplomacy feature of the game. I found out that Hungary is 35 years my vassal and they got in wars with me to pretty big territories. I let my current alliance expire and boost Poland-Lithuania, Spain and Hungary reputation to big numbers, so I do not end up with new dukedoms and got attacked right away. In the end I was successful and I have in my possession most of the Central and East Europe I am back in France/Savoy/Tuscany alliance and I have not had a war for 10 years. My allies are attacking now and then, because of that, I am losing stability, but I have to first pacify the rebels in Hungary, which will take another few years. But without war, lot of money goes into my pockets, so I decided to annex diplomatically Tuscany as well. We'll see how it goes Conclusion: This game is like crack, just worse. It is the prime example of one more turn and I go to sleep. I played this game through GOG Galaxy, because I wanted to see my time spent on this game. After I quit the game, I was completely shocked!!! I spent playing from Friday afternoon to Saturday 15 hours playing it... it was middle of the night and I was shocked because I have not managed to notice that... Well I decided to go little bit slower on it, and spent 2 hours on it on Saturday evening, and haven't played it today yet. It is very old game, missing lot of rules from newer Paradox games, but I am having so much fun with it. I just have to control myself to not go into one more turn mode I have no problem to say that it is the best game, which I played this year! I just wish, I would have someone else to play Multiplayer with But first Austria has to conquer the world!!! Which is very hard, because Spain controls almost whole America, and is 300+ Victory points ahead of me. I have 240 years to catch up. 8/10 on Mamoo's chart of awesomeness. -1 point for the crazy addictiveness which does not goes good with real social life and job. If you do not care about it, it's 9/10

"Open World" Abused by Marketing Miscreants?
Yeah. The as soon as I hear open world when someone promotes their game, It makes me go "Watch Out! Fetch quest snore alert!" That is the reason that I am kindly woried about the "open world" approach in FFXV and looking towards to it with biiig uncertainty ( never happened to me before. Even though I got pretty disapointed with Lightning Returns FFXIII. Because it was kind of "open world" as well.

I can't play CK because there's too many rulers with different traits and just too many variables in general: trying to play that game makes me actually a little physically ill because of my OCD-like behavior. I enjoy EU4, though, particularly considering it's an immeasurable step up in complexity over like, the Total War games, which I thought were decent for a long while until actually trying EU4...at which point the TW games come across more as bad jokes to me. Well, I was watching let's play of CK, and I found after 70 episodes, I was really astonished from the gameplay, that I had to buy the game After I started to play it, I was surprised how addictive is the game, and I spent few days with almost no sleep O.o That's why I rather took a break from the game, because I was afraid that I will start to come late to work :D

Drools... After I played Crusader Kings for the first time, I went crazy for Paradox games, and bought all of them on GoG, including the latest Hearts of Iron III sale... They are really good games, but unfortunately I suck at them haha, but still they are so much fun! Need to go back to CK again, because getting from Count of Orava, to Duke of Nitra and then to King of Hungary was pretty entertaining and satisfying But I have to much clashes with Bohemia and Pagans. It was to much for me, so I had to get a break O.o
