Dungeon Siege 3 at New York Comic Con
Starwars replied to funcroc's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
It'd kill to have a toolset of some sort for this game though. I want to build pretty environments too. /hint hint Obsidian -
I know I've seen them use Knights and Chariot Archers as well at least. But could be that the AI holds back on pumping out those units because they want to have Horses available for trading maybe?

Dungeon Siege 3 at New York Comic Con

Looks great for what it is. Smooth as butter and the environments look beautiful. There seems to be a fair amount of replayability if I understand how the characters work which is always nice. Would be great to have a video like this made specifically for the Internet so we can really see the details. The gameplay doesn't look to be that much to my particular tastes but if they manage to balance it and make it challenging then I think I could grow to like it at any rate. Also, those spiders and the way they sorta hang around near the beginning... blech *shudders*. Looks great overall! -
Enjoying Alpha Protocol
Starwars replied to graysonburrows's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Once I applied the tweaks to fix the camera wonkyness whenever the game stuttered, I didn't have any problems with mouse and keyboard. That said, it's quite easy to tell that the game was designed for a controller first and foremost. But even so, I just can't stand playing games where I have to manually aim at stuff if there's an option for using the mouse. I'm currently replaying the game as bastard Thorton who doesn't much care about what people think of him. I tend to lean towards the stealthy side in games like this but it's real fun to just go to town once in a while. I think the shotguns are a lot of fun to use. -
Played a bit of Mass Effect 2 but I really have trouble replaying this even though I quite liked it on my first playthrough. Interested just dropped off so I uninstalled it. So now I'm replaying Alpha Protocol as cruel **** karate expert Thorton which is kinda awesome. Also playing Civ V. Kinda waiting for New Vegas at this point.

Atreides: Really not much to say except, well... Keep the units on manageable level. There is a good overview for your units if you press F3 (I think). Keep a close call on how many workers you have and if you really need them. For roads, make sure you don't build the "webs" of roads that one tended to do in older games. Connect things so you set up the trade routes, but there shouldn't be much more than that unless you have a specific route that you travel a lot and really need to get across fast (like if you're in a war and need to ship out units fast). Keep an eye on buildings you build and their maintenance costs and balance it out with buildings that increase cash flow. Also, be sure to try and trade resources you don't need as you can get good gold from trading occasionally.

I love the game myself but I think Outcast may be one of those "had to have played it at release" to fully appreciate it games. It hasn't aged wonderfully. Still, I may be wrong. And for a cheap price I think it'd be a good buy.

I think it's much better than the previous games. There are one or two things that I would want back from Civ IV but the improvements faaaar outweigh the positives. This is the first Civ where I actually feel like it'd be a real chore to play any of the older ones in comparison. Hopefully we'll see some good support for the game.

I thought Alpha Protocol did it well since the Veteran options there are for, well... a special playthrough and those particular choices didn't affect things that much at any rate if I remember correctly. But generally speaking I prefer it if the third "ultimate" option is not present unless it has very special pre-requisites that you'd only fulfill by making sacrifices elsewhere.

I like Star Wars and I think KOTOR managed to capture the general feel pretty well. But that feel just doesn't make for a very interesting roleplaying experience (which is why I feel KOTOR2 was a superior game despite suffering from the same gameplay). But yeah, the gameplay is freaking horrendous.

I guess it's always a nervous time to release a game. But it seems like things are going the right way. Previews are positive and pre-order numbers appear to be very good. And good for Josh that he finally gets to release a game again.
-
The PC Gamer preview is pretty good. It also brings up what is probably my biggest fear regarding the game at this point, that it will feel too silly in places. But sounds great overall.

I think KOTOR1 is their worst release aside from the NWN1 OC.

The Saboteur I think.

http://bethblog.com/index.php/2010/10/05/f...tered-settlers/ New post about the strategy guide. Apparently there are around 200 "marked" locations, and over 70 sidequests and 90 "free quests" (no idea what that means).

Yeah, I think the AI was really just as bad in Civ IV. The thing was that the key to victory there was basically stacks of doom. Since warfare is a much more tactical (and fun) affair, it seems that the AI hasn't really been updated enough to take advantage of it. There are some things that definitely need to be polished up (combat AI and thus, difficulty, is the most prominent one), but I think the core gameplay is waaaaaaaay better in Civ V. It's true that it's not strictly improving upon Civ IV, but changing some things up. I welcome most of the changes. The inclusion of city-states in particular adds another layer, though their uses will largely depend on your playstyle. Social Policies are a great way to "customize" your civilization, though I would've liked it if they also had a negative side to them so that you needed to balance things out. Worldwide happiness is something that could be viewed as dumbing down at first glance, but it means it has a bigger impact overall. Same thing with resources, unit management. There's less of it, but each piece of the puzzle is more important. I think the main thing I miss is the Espionage. Not that I think it was particularly well-implemented in Civ IV (it got annoying as hell after a while) but I would've really liked to see a better version of it.

Re-watched the Big Lebowski last night, and watched No country for old men today actually. Funny coincidence. I enjoyed the Big Lebowsky just as much as I when I watched it the first time and I think No country for old men was great as well. I also mixed myself a white russian, so inspired was I by the Dude.

New cam footage with Pete Hines playing through a bit of Primm: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/pax-10-fallout-new/705552 Mostly combat here. The ironsights and weapons really do look great, it feels like everything has much more "weight" behind it.

The Q&A session with Jason Bergman wasn't that interesting I think but the interview with Feargus was nice. He's always so hyper and seems pretty open about stuff.

I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favourite thread on Obsidian
Starwars replied to Gorth's topic in Computer and Console
Just finished Operation Overlord. Mixed feelings. It's too bad that the majority of it feels very... filler. The occasional good encounter but mostly boring ones, and the hammerhead things is just... why. But the meat of it right at the end is very, very well done. While some of the aesthetics (and of course, the whole AI thing) made me think of System Shock 2, the final setpiece was pretty amazing and quite touching. So yeah, mixed bag... But it definitely ends on a high-note, really impressed with how they pulled that off. -
Probably the scariest game I played, well worth the price.

Haha, Chris Avellone posted on his twitter that he saw those vistas and then plus a secret room. Then he said that it was time for "developer kudos", but it was all a lie!!! Just like the cake.
