  1. I don't care too much about them being weird "outwardly" so to speak. I think some will have weird quirks and that's fine with me. But what I really want it just interesting and fleshed out companions that match some of the depth in games like MotB or Torment. Small little things that's been revealed so far like Forton being into mind-expanding drugs, or the character recently described as a Cipher detective. Those already sound like potentially really interesting angles to me, It's already been confirmed that PE will be less absurd (or bizarre, forgot the choice of words) than PE, but will aim for the same depth.
  2. http://www.sorcerers...ead.php?t=58248 Lovely little nuggest of information here about a character (possibly a companion?). Pretty cool!
  3. Thanks for the effort, I'm sure people who missed it will appreciate this!
  4. I don't care too much either way but if given a choice I suppose I would want the effort put into possible "gore animations" and such to be put into other parts of the game. I loved the critical hit animations in the old Fallouts but that was also a "thing" for those games. I don't really get that vibe from Project Eternity so no gore is fine by me if that's what they choose to do. I always thought the gibbing in the IE games (or was it only the BGs, can't remember) looked really stupid though, so hopefully not something like that at least.
  5. I'm hoping it will not be a part of the main narrative. Don't get me wrong, I liked Crossroad Keep (one of the best things about NWN2 actually) but I would greatly prefer it if the stronghold was an optional thing, not something the plot will evolve around. And that, yes, you certainly get to be in a powerful position, lording over a keep (or whatever the case may be) but that that doesn't elevate your status to "celebrity of the world". I would enjoy it if it was slightly less epic, and more of a struggle to provide for the few followers you may have around the place. I also don't care that much for the actual building process so I'd be happy if we just take over a place somewhere and then have it be more about the... managing so to speak (obviously some building may be involved in that).
  6. I think some people are looking at this from a rather... extreme point of view. To use a crude example, keys. This game will most likely (hopefully) have a special section for keys, a key chain or whatever. But it's simply annoying in some games where you would have used a key that is part of a quest and don't know whether you would have to use it again. Now I mean annoying in the sense that you have a little key that is taking up an entire slot of inventory space (which doesn't make sense in the first place). Having "junk items" like in DA2 is the dumbest idea ever, and incredibly stupid design-wise, but that's not what the OP was talking about at all. I would *love* for the world to be filled with mysterious items, like the Lady of Pain doll mentioned above for example. But what I don't want to wonder is if I should keep this mystical mcguffin of plot-advancing, because it may or may not be used in the plot again down the line if it doesn't have *another* purpose. If New Vegas had used a classic inventory, the Platinum Chip for exampe would be a prime example of this type of item.
  7. Definitely a Rogue, that's almost always my most preferred style of play I think. Skilled, hopefully good at avoiding combat where you can. Feel like a sneaky bad-ass. All that good stuff. Definitely also interested in playing a Priest, though this will really depend on how religion is handled in the game. Since the god are already described as "meddling" and with an agenda, I hope there is still ample room for playing a highly religious Priest that is on top of the game and not just simply "fanatic who is duped by the gods".
  8. I also think 8 companions is a great number. I would worry more about it potentially being too many if they really are going as in-depth as they seem to be. But yeah, these guys have a lot of experience with writing video-games so hopefully and probably they'll pull it off beautifully. I wonder who the writers will end up being though, and how many characters each will write. We know Chris Avellone and George Ziets will be writing for them. I wonder if there will be more? Josh will have a lot of other responsibilities I imagine and he's said he's not really a fast writer so maybe he will focus on other stuff. Maybe Eric Fenstermaker if he is on the project (not sure about that actually).
  9. There are other "spawn locations" for the Legion squads (though I can't remember exactly where, I seem to remember them attacking fairly close by Vault 11 and also somewhere between Red Rock Canyon and Bonnie Springs). If you can spawn them there, Fitz will be safe until the next time they attack at least. But really... who gives a damn about Fitz?
  10. As far as I know, Chris not having played Arcanum is just one of those things where... He never got around to it. I seem to recall him mentioning that in some interview (along with pleas that the angry RPG mob shouldn't kill him now that the cat's was out of the bag), but I can't seem to recall there ever being any mention of him disliking it. And I tend to follow Obsidian news fairly dilligently.
  11. I like the Baldur's Gates (BG2 moreso, at least when exploring Athkatla) but I feel now, as I did when they came out, that they are overrated games all in all. Still like 'em, and get those pangs of nostalgia when hearing certain music from them or what-have-you but... ultimately I do not find them to be great.
  12. Pretty amazing, and I must say that I never thought they would make the second goal... Shame on me I suppose! Sure glad I was wrong. Go go Obsidian!
  13. I wonder if this is some sort of bug, but then again it seems strange that they would actually miss it. It's a real pain in the butt to navigate those missions because of how the camera and marker tends to work.
  14. How is including *anything* hurting other people's experiences? God mode toggles, XP x 1000 options, fast-travel or not... I also choose not to "abuse systems". This does not mean that I want the games I buy to have options that are easily abused. Why not? Well, because it feels goddamn dumb to ignore very simple ways to increase your power of course. I can do it personally but it still feels like I'm artificially limiting myself because if it's in the game... Then it's in the game. Just like EA Sports. Even though PE is community-funded, there is still a point where the designers say "yes, this is the type of game we want to design". Maybe they don't want to necessarily reward slaughtering everything. Maybe they want to encourage the player to not kill everything. Or rather, maybe they don't want to encourage a player who kills everything vs a player who doesn't. Of course, this might also mean that we won't see XP rewards for completing skill checks, picking locks or that they need to be examined in some ways at least. Which is completely fine by me. I much prefer systems that by and large based on completing an objetive. So yes, tear off that entire arm. No mercy! Anyways, it's been said before but... I really hope someone can record the D&D session for us in the EU and other places.
  15. No Obsidian game at the moment though I replayed NWN2 and Mask of the Betrayer a short while ago. NWN2 is pretty meh overall with some good parts (Act 3 in particular), while MotB is really excellent.
  16. 140 bucks (sucker for physical goodies), plus 20 for expansion and 20 for international shipping. So 180 bucks all-together... Which is way more than I should pay at the moment considering my budget but eh, sometimes it just has to be worth it.
  17. Yea, I agree with this. However it would work better if there was a difficulty between normal and classic. As it is right now on normal it is way to easy for me. I have lost one mid rank soldier including when I played through the alien base. That means that I don't really fear for my guys that much. The only time I had a bit of a scare was when my Assault Colonel (my first Col) was going to stun the sectoid commander in the base and ended up being shot twice in the back (double tap) by my mindcontrolled Colonel Sniper. Luckily she never critted and I survived with 2 hp. On Classic I feel that I loose my guys to early to actually form an attachment to them. I actually like the way Classic feels in the missions. Very tough no doubt, but you can pull through pretty well if you're really careful I've found (and, of course, have some luck). The strategy layer is a real pain in the ass though. Feels a bit too "narrow" in how you have to map it out. I would like Classic difficulty in combat missions but something more close to Normal on the geoscape layer. I'm sure someone will mod it. Almost lost my precious Garotte... Moving forward in a landed UFO, I was moving up on the main control, real careful-like, which I was absolutely sure had the last enemies. Two Sectoid Commanders hung out there. Didn't have a great Sniping position so for whatever reason I decided to move Garotte back a bit, re-maneuver her to a new position. And of course... A Berserker and two Mutons had patrolled around and was now directly behind my squad. Luckily the Sectoids went down real quick as the Berserker very nearly punched Garotte to death but she managed to get out with 2 HP left. Still managed to save the mission with no casualties somehow. But now she's out of comission for almost a month, goddamnit.
  18. Tim Cain had recipes in Fallout and Arcanum manuals as well (ToEE also maybe?). I made the banana bread in Arcanum once and it was delicious. Awesome to see this tradition continuing!
  19. Something this game *really* succeeds in (which they talked a lot about in marketing) is really you bonding with those special soldiers that survive for long. My kick-ass Sniper (nicknamed Garotte) has saved many a mission at this point. Latest being a terror mission where she grappled up onto a roof and then just dominated the battlefield from up there. One of the best "oh ****" moments was when a Chrysalid climbed up there and stood on elevated ground (on one of those air vent duct things) right above her. It was a pretty terrifying image but luckily the Chrysalid had been hurt before so my kick-ass Sniper just pulled out her pistol and shot that fool down. I think I may be falling in love with Garotte.
  20. I would like to avoid the whole "fight through an army of enemies and mini-bosses and the final boss and, oh yeah, that boss was a fake-out so here's the REAL boss" stuff. Or at the very least, I hope they will provide different paths through that stuff as well through use of skills.
  21. It's not realy an informative thing, more just a brief look into the office and such. Sorta casual-like.
  22. So, an Obsidian employee just rolled by on a furniture cart thingie outside Adam's office.
  23. I just started over on cCassic. You can and will definitely lose soldiers on Normal, WorstUserNameEver, but you will tell that it's not too hard in the long run (not that I finished the game but it got a lot easier as the game went on). Think Classic will stomp me pretty good. I've read around a bit though and it seems like the strategy layer in Classic could use with some balancing, hopefully there'll be a patch of mod for that eventually.
  24. Not much time at the momeny but trying to get some playtime in with X-Com: Enemy Unknown and also testing a new build of the AoD demo beta. Enjoying both quite a bit.
